Background A recent meta-analysis showed independent associations between most Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) ancillary features (AFs) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), malignancy, and benignity. However, the impact of AFs on the diagnostic performance of LI-RADS remains unclear. Purpose To evaluate the impact of applying individual AFs on the diagnostic performance of CT and MRI LI-RADS using an individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis.

Background The CT/MRI Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) diagnostic algorithm classifies liver observations in patients with high-risk hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using imaging features. However, data regarding the diagnostic performance of specific LI-RADS major feature combinations is limited. Purpose To conduct a systematic review and individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis to establish the positive predictive values (PPVs) of LI-RADS major feature combinations using CT/MRI LI-RADS version 2018 in patients at risk for HCC.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is closely linked to liver cancer prognosis, invasiveness, and aggressiveness. One promising treatment for liver cancer is cell therapy, where stem cells are stimulated to develop into functional liver cells. This study aimed to investigate the effect of miR-122-5p on the differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) into hepatocyte-like cells and its impact on the EMT process in liver cancer cells.

Clinical Peptidomics: Advances in Instrumentation, Analyses, and Applications.

BME Front

May 2023

Center for Cellular and Molecular Diagnostics, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, School of Medicine, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, USA.

Extensive effort has been devoted to the discovery, development, and validation of biomarkers for early disease diagnosis and prognosis as well as rapid evaluation of the response to therapeutic interventions. Genomic and transcriptomic profiling are well-established means to identify disease-associated biomarkers. However, analysis of disease-associated peptidomes can also identify novel peptide biomarkers or signatures that provide sensitive and specific diagnostic and prognostic information for specific malignant, chronic, and infectious diseases.

Background: Thermal ablation is one of the first-line treatments for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with a massive potential of long-term cure. However, it is disadvantaged by the relatively high rate of postoperative recurrence. In this study, a comparison was performed in the prognostic performance between albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) grade and Child-Pugh (C-P) grade for those HCC patients undergoing thermal ablation.

Background: Hip instability is one of the etiologies of accelerated onset of osteoarthritis in developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). There are some radiological parameters for hip instability in hip dysplasia like broken shenton's line, elevated acetabular index, reduced lateral center edge angle (LCEA), upsloping lateral sourcil. We have discovered a new index of teardrop distance (TD) for assessing instability.

Background: This study aimed to develop an ultrathin nanofibrous membrane able to, firstly, mimic the natural fibrous architecture of human Bruch's membrane (BM) and, secondly, promote survival of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells after surface functionalization of fibrous membranes.

Methods: Integrin-binding peptides (IBPs) that specifically interact with appropriate adhesion receptors on RPEs were immobilized on Bruch's-mimetic membranes to promote coverage of RPEs. Surface morphologies, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy spectra, contact angle analysis, Alamar Blue assay, live/dead assay, immunofluorescence staining, and scanning electron microscopy were used to evaluate the outcome.

Aim: To evaluate the risk stratification of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and overall malignancies in different contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) categories, and to explore the diagnostic performance of LR-5 for HCC and LR-M for non-HCC malignancies.

Materials And Methods: The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Central databases were searched from 2016 to February 2021 for studies on CEUS LI-RADS v2016 and v2017. The proportion of HCC and overall malignancy in each LI-RADS category and the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of LR-5 and LR-M categories were determined using a random effects model.
