January 2018

Department of Breast Cancer Pathology and Research Laboratory, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Therapy, Tianjin, China.

Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) of the breast is a highly aggressive breast cancer. Polarity reversal exemplified by cluster growth is hypothesized to contribute to the invasiveness and metastasis of IMPC. In this study, we demonstrate that levels of β1 integrin and Rac1 expression were greater in breast IMPC than in invasive breast carcinoma of no specific type and paraneoplastic benign breast tissue.

Tianjin Medical University Three Center Clinical College, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Artificial Cell, Tianjin Institute of Hepatobiliary Disease, Artificial Cell Engineering Technology Research Center of Public Health Ministry, Tianjin 300000, China.

At present, liver transplantation remains the most effective treatment for acute liver failure and advanced cirrhosis, but its use and promotion are limited by insufficient organ donors, financial consideration, and requirements for lifelong immunosuppression. In recent years, stem cell transplantation has been recommended as an effective substitutive therapy for liver disease. Mesenchymal stem cells, also known as pluripotent interstitial stromal cells, are self-renewing cells that can be found in almost all postnatal organs and tissues, including the liver.

BACKGROUND This study was designed as an external evaluation of potentially relevant models for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (E-CPR). MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty AMI adults that met criteria were retrospectively analyzed from January 2009 to January 2015. Six possible models - ENCOURAGE, SAVE, ECPR, GRACE, SHOCK, and a simplified risk chart - were identified by literature review and model scores calculated based on original data.

Three-dimensional hydrogel culture conditions promote the differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells into hepatocytes.

Cytotherapy

January 2018

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Artificial Cell, Tianjin Institute of Hepatobiliary Disease, Artificial Cell Engineering Technology Research Center of Public Health Ministry, Third Central Hospital of Tianjin, Tianjin, China. Electronic address:

Background Aims: Human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) are becoming increasingly popular in research endeavors due to their potential for clinical application; however, such application is challenging due to limitations such as inferior function and low induction efficiency. In this study, we aimed to establish a three-dimensional (3D) culture condition to mimic the environment in which hepatogenesis occurs in vivo to enhance the differentiation of hiPSCs for large-scale culture and high throughput BAL application.

Methods: We used hydrogel to create hepatocyte-like cell (HLC) spheroids in a 3D culture condition and analyzed the cell-behavior and differentiation properties of hiPSCs in a synthetic nanofiber scaffold.

The state of T cells before cryopreservation: Effects on post-thaw proliferation and function.

Cryobiology

December 2017

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Artificial Cell, Tianjin Institute of Hepatobiliary Disease, Artificial Cell Engineering Technology Research Center of Public Health Ministry, Third Central Hospital of Tianjin, Tianjin, 300170, China; Third Central Clinical College of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin, 3

Aim: We aim to assess the effect of the state of T cells before cryopreservation on the post-thaw proliferative capacity, phenotype and functional response.

Methods: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated from a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patient, and the T cells were frozen during cell culture according to our experimental design. After a period of re-culture, the proliferative capacity of the cryopreserved cells, the expression of T cell surface markers and the secretion of IFN-γ and IL-10 were assayed.

Medicine (Baltimore)

August 2017

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Artificial Cell, Tianjin Institute of Hepatobiliary Disease, Artificial Cell Engineering Technology Research Center of Public Health Ministry Department of General Surgery, Third Central Hospital of Tianjin, Tianjin, China.

The aim of the study was to explore the clinical significance of let-7 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).A PCR array was conducted to screen for let-7 expression in early-stage HCC. Next, the deregulation of let-7 was confirmed by quantitative real-time RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) in another set of liver tissues, including normal control (NC), chronic hepatitis (CH), liver cirrhosis (LC), HCC, and adjacent nontumor (NT) tissues.

Amplification and overexpression of PSCA at 8q24 in invasive micropapillary carcinoma of breast.

Breast Cancer Res Treat

November 2017

Department of Breast Pathology and Lab, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Therapy, Tianjin, China.

Purpose: Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) of the breast has distinct histological features and molecular genetic profiles. Gains/amplifications of 8q24 are found associated with IMPC. Although the prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA) gene is located at chromosome 8q24, and found over-expressed in prior studies, its prognostic values and biological significance in IMPC have not been well studied.

Primary hepatocellular carcinoma (PHC) is a major health problem worldwide and is one of the 10 most commonly diagnosed cancers in China. Heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) were found to be overexpressed in a wide range of malignancies including PHC, however, post-translational modification of HSP27 still needs exploration in PHC. Recently, SUMOylation, an important post-translational modification associating with the development of many kinds of cancers has been intensively studied.

Article Synopsis
  • Ischemic stroke occurs when a blood vessel is blocked, leading to decreased blood flow to the brain, and this study investigates the role of miRNA-143 in this process.
  • The research found that miR-143 is highly present in astrocytes but down-regulated in rat neurons, and its expression increases significantly during ischemic injury, linked to reduced glucose uptake and energy production in the brain.
  • By demonstrating that miR-143 directly targets the glycolysis enzyme HK2, the study suggests that inhibiting miR-143 could protect neurons from ischemic brain injury, pointing to new potential treatments for stroke.

The most effective diagnostic tool for the majority of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients is determining the differentiation grade of their tumors. However liver biopsies, which are currently the most effective way of determining tumor differentiation grade, have several limitations. The present study was designed to select serum characteristic metabolites that correlate with the differentiation grades of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC, and so could be used in the clinic as a non-invasive method of differentiating patients with different grades of HCC.
