We report the synthesis of poly(acrylamide-co-acrylic acid)/sodium carboxy methyl cellulose (PAMAA/CMC-Na) hydrogels, and subsequent fabrication of dual-network polymer hydrogels (PAMAA/CMC-Na/Fe) using as-prepared via the salt solution (FeCl) immersion method. The created dual-network polymer hydrogels exhibit anti-swelling properties, frost resistance, high conductivity, and good mechanical performance. The hydrogel swells sightly when immersed in solution (pH = 2~11). With the increase in n:n, the modulus of elasticity experiences a rise from 1.1 to 1.6 MPa, while the toughness undergoes an increase from 0.18 to 0.24 MJ/m. Furthermore, the presence of a high concentration of CMC-Na also contributes to the enhancement of mechanical strength in the resulting hydrogels, ascribing to enhanced physical network of the hydrogels. The minimum freezing point reaches -21.8 °C when the CMC-Na concentration is 2.5%, owing to the dissipated hydrogen bonds by the coordination of Fe with carboxyl (-COO) in CMC-Na and PAMAA. It is found that the conductivity of the PAMAA/CMC-Na/Fe hydrogels gradually decreased from 2.62 to 0.6 S/m as the concentration of CMC-Na rises. The obtained results indicates that the dual-network hydrogels with high mechanical properties, anti-swelling properties, frost resistance, and electrical conductivity can be a competitive substance used in the production of bendable sensors and biosensors.

As a new generation of high-energy-density energy storage system, solid-state aluminum-ion batteries have attracted much attention. Nowadays polyethylene oxide (PEO)-based electrolytes have been initially applied to Lithium-ion batteries due to their flexible processing and good interfacial compatibility, their application in aluminum-ion batteries still faces problems. To overcome the limitations in aluminum-ion batteries-specifically, strong Al coordination suppressing ion dissociation, high room-temperature crystallinity, and inadequate mechanical strength-this study develops a blended polymer electrolyte (BPE) of polypropylene carbonate (PPC) and PEO.

A one-pot strategy was developed to fabricate a strong and ductile elastomer composed of chitin nanocrystals and poly(deep eutectic solvent) (ChNC/PDES), based on a dual-network structure formed through glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)associated modification, polymerization and crosslinking. This approach enables the integrated pretreatment, chemical modification, and nanodispersion of chitin within a lactic acid/choline chloride deep eutectic solvent (DES) system. Whereafter, the ultraviolet initiated polymerization of GMA with ChNC and DES components produced a homogeneous elastomer with a maximum tensile strength of 4.

Bacterial infections, aseptic loosening, and poor osseointegration remain challenges for orthopedic implants. In this study, we developed a dual-network polyelectrolyte antibacterial coating for orthopedic implants to prevent bacterial infections. The coating was prepared via UV-triggered in situ polymerization, composed of polyethyleneimine (PEI) and polyacrylic acid (PAA), with enhanced mechanical properties due to electrostatic interactions between them.

Conventional conductive hydrogels are susceptible to swelling in aquatic environments; which compromises their mechanical integrity; a limitation that poses a potential challenge to their long-term stability and application. In this study, a zwitterionic ion-conductive hydrogel was fabricated from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), acrylic acid (AA), and [2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide (SMBA), forming a dual-network structure. A copolymer of zwitterionic SBMA and AA formed the first network, and PVA formed the second network by repeated freeze-thawing.

During drilling operations, lost circulation frequently occurs, leading to significant loss of drilling fluids which causes environmental damage and increasing drilling costs. To address the problem of fracture plugging, gel materials have emerged as an ideal solution due to stable physicochemical properties and excellent environmental compatibility. However, most existing gels exhibit poor stability and low mechanical strength under high-temperature conditions.
