Defense-associated reverse transcriptase (DRT) systems are implicated in prokaryotic resistance to viral infections, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying their functionality remain largely unknown. Here, we characterize a two-component DRT9 system, composed of a reverse transcriptase (RT) and a non-coding RNA (ncRNA), which exhibits a protein-primed DNA synthesis activity upon phage infection. We also determine its cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures in different functional states.

We report the case of a 30-year-old female diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma who underwent left thyroid lobectomy, isthmectomy, and comprehensive left cervical lymph node dissection. On the first postoperative day, the patient developed left-sided ptosis, a constricted pupil, blurred vision, and conjunctival congestion, leading to a clinical diagnosis of Horner syndrome.

Fringe projection profilometry (FPP) has been widely applied in industrial 3D measurement due to its high precision and non-contact advantages. However, FPP often encounters measurement problems with high-dynamic-range objects, consequently impacting phase computation. In this paper, an adaptive exposure time selection method is proposed to calculate the optimal number of exposures and exposure time by using an improved clustering method to divide the region with different reflection degrees.

Methods: A total of 723 patients who underwent ERCP at Anhui Provincial Corps Hospital of the Chinese People's Armed Police Force between March 2018 and April 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. This cohort included 152 patients aged ≥ 75 years (elderly group) and 571 patients aged < 75 years (control group).

The expression of SLFN11 (Schlafen11) has been identified as a potential biomarker for predicting patient responses to DNA-damaging agents and PARP inhibitors, as it irreversibly blocks DNA replication under replication stress, thereby increasing the sensitivity of cancer cells to various DNA-damaging agents and PARP inhibitors. Preclinical and clinical trial data suggest that SLFN11 can predict therapeutic responses to multiple DNA- targeted drugs, including platinum-based agents, topoisomerase I/II inhibitors, DNA synthesis inhibitors, and PARP inhibitors.

Studies have shown that it is mainly expressed in the outer membrane fibroblasts of injured arteries and in the neointimal smooth muscle cells, where it promotes cell migration and tissue damage repair. However, the regulatory role of CTHRC1 as a tumor microenvironment factor in pancreatic cancer is not well understood.

Many large international pharmaceutical companies and emerging biotechnology companies are deploying different tumor therapeutic cancer vaccine projects, focusing on promoting their clinical transformation, and the vaccine industry has strong momentum for development. Such vaccines are also the core engine and pilot site for the development of new vaccine targets, new vectors, new adjuvants, and new technologies, which play a key role in promoting the innovation and development of vaccines.

Methods: This retrospective, nationwide, observational cohort study was conducted at ten high-volume LT centres in China.
The role of endophytic bacteria in the interaction between medicinal plants and microorganisms, secondary metabolite accumulation, plant nutrient changes, as well as their interactions with microbial communities, needs to be investigated in medicinal plants. In this study, 16S rRNA genes of endophytic bacterial communities in the root systems of three medicinal licorice species at different root depths (0-20, 20-40, and 40-60 cm) were sequenced using high-throughput sequencing technology, and their relationships with plant and soil factors were investigated. Our study indicated that the influence of species on the structure of endophytic bacterial communities is significantly greater than that of root depth, and there are significant differences in the structure of endophytic bacterial communities at different sampling sites.

Deep learning (DL)-based human activity recognition (HAR) has attracted considerable attention owing to its vast potential across various applications. Currently, HAR still faces two challenges. For one thing, existing methods neglect the spatial distribution information embedded in HAR signals and lack the ability to comprehensively model the spatial-temporal (ST) dependencies within HAR data, restricting them from effectively decoding human activity.
