The soluble free, soluble conjugated, and insoluble bound phenolic compounds in tomato seeds were extracted and analyzed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry. Total phenolic content (TPC) and free radical scavenging activities along with the antiproliferative effects against the human colorectal cancer cell line (HCT-116) were also examined for the soluble free, soluble conjugated, and insoluble bound phenolic fractions. 13, 7, and 10 compounds were tentatively identified in the soluble free, soluble conjugated, and insoluble bound phenolic fractions, respectively, including indole-3-acetic acid derivatives, flavonoids, phenolic acid, and tyramine-derived hydroxycinnamic acid amines.

The COVID-19 pandemic generates a global threat to public health and continuously emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants bring a great challenge to the development of both vaccines and antiviral agents. In this study, we identified UA-18 and its optimized analog UA-30 via the hit-to-lead strategy as novel SARS-CoV-2 fusion inhibitors. The lead compound UA-30 showed potent antiviral activity against infectious SARS-CoV-2 (wuhan-HU-1 variant) in Vero-E6 cells and was also effective against infection of diverse pseudotyped SARS-CoV-2 variants with mutations in the S protein including the Omicron and Delta variants.

Choline is a precursor of the major neurotransmitter acetylcholine and has been demonstrated beneficial in diverse models of cardiovascular disease. Here, we sought to verify that choline protects the heart from DOX-induced cardiotoxicity and the underlying mechanisms. The results showed that DOX treatment decreased left ventricular ejection fraction and fractional shortening and increased serum cardiac markers and myocardial fibrosis, which were alleviated by cotreatment with choline.

Tumor microenvironment (TME)-responsive chemodynamic therapy (CDT) mediated by nanozymes has been extensively studied both experimentally and theoretically, but the low catalytic efficiency due to insufficient HO in the TME and the poor biodegradability of the nanozymes are still main challenges for clinical translation of nanozymes. Herein, we designed a HO self-supplying nanozyme bearing glucose oxidase (GOX) and polyethyleneimine based on a degradable iron-doped phosphate-based glass (FePBG) nanomimic (FePBG@GOX), which can convert endogenous glucose into toxic hydroxyl radicals. The GOX loaded on the nanozyme can effectively consume glucose in tumor cells to produce a large amount of HO to make up for the lack of HO in the TME.
