Secretory diarrhea is characterized by excessive production of electrolytes and water by intestinal epithelial cells, resulting in persistent watery stools. This study suggested that abnormal activation of TMEM16A might contribute to its pathogenesis. A drug screening identified thymol, a natural product, as a significant inhibitor of TMEM16A channel activity.

Based on the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) theory of "kidney-brain interaction", a two-sample Mendelian randomization(MR) analysis was conducted to investigate the causal effects of chronic kidney disease(CKD) on Alzheimer's disease(AD) and analyze the potential mechanisms of kidney-tonifying and essence-replenishing TCM to improve AD. From the perspective that CKD is closely related to the core pathogenesis of AD, namely "kidney deficiency, essence loss, and marrow reduction", genome-wide association study(GWAS) data was used, with the inverse variance weighting(IVW) method as the main approach to reveal the causal association between CKD and AD. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate the robustness of the results.

Methods: Literature published in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane databases up to May 21, 2024, was comprehensively searched, and inclusion and exclusion criteria were developed. Pooled estimates of CPAP therapy were analyzed via the standardized mean difference (SMD).
Benzene is the simplest and the most basic building block for the construction of π conjugated systems, which are widely used in various fields from fluorescent (FL) dyes to optoelectronic displays. However, achieving the red room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) from single benzene is still challenging. Utilizing the p-π conjugation, herein, we report a single benzene-based push-pull system with red RTP under ambient condition.

Therefore, by altering the preparation conditions of nanocomposites and investigating their responsiveness to basic biomolecules (such as proteins), it is possible to explore the application potentials of the composites and guide development of new nanocomposite preparation. In this study, different composites of graphene oxide and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs/GO) were obtained by varying the volumes of reducing agents used in the one-pot hydrothermal method.

Background: Clinical decision support systems (CDSS) are computer systems designed to help doctors to make clinician decisions by information technology, and have proven to be effective in improving headache diagnosis by making medical knowledge readily available to users in some studies. However, one serious drawback is that the CDSS lacks the ability to deal with some fuzzy boundaries of the headache features utilized in diagnostic criteria, which might be caused by patients' recall bias and subjective bias.
Background: This systematic review aims to assist clinical decision-making in selecting appropriate preoperative prediction methods for difficult tracheal intubation by identifying and synthesizing literature on these methods in adult patients undergoing all types of surgery.
Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Comprehensive electronic searches across multiple databases were completed on March 28, 2023.

Over the past few decades, significant research has been conducted on tissue-engineered constructs for cartilage repair. However, there is a growing interest in addressing subchondral bone repair along with cartilage regeneration. This study focuses on a bilayer tissue engineering scaffold loaded with icariin (ICA) and quercetin (QU) for simultaneous treatment of knee joint cartilage and subchondral bone defects.

In the common flat electrode scheme, due to a few centimeters away from the anode, oil droplets have to undergo electromigration to and electrical neutralization at the anodic surface before they coalesce into large oil droplets and rise to water surface, resulting in slow demulsification and easy anode fouling. Herein, a novel strategy is proposed on basis of a TiO/Ti anode with microchannels to overcome these problems.

The incidence and mortality rates of lung cancer have remained high for several decades, necessitating the discovery of new drugs and the development of effective treatment strategies. This study identified matairesinoside (MTS) as a potent inhibitor of TMEM16A, a novel drug target for lung cancer. Molecular simulation combined with site-directed mutagenesis experiments confirmed the key binding sites of MTS and TMEM16A.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is an alphacoronavirus that causes severe morbidity and mortality in piglets, resulting in substantial economic losses to the swine industry. While vaccination is currently the most effective preventive measure, existing vaccines fail to provide complete and reliable protection against PEDV infection. Consequently, there is a need to explore alternative or complementary strategies to address this issue.

Methods: The clinical data of 164 atrial fibrillation patients receiving cardiac CTA and real-time three-dimensional transoesophageal echocardiography (RT-3D-TEE) were retrospectively analysed. The patients were divided into group A (anticoagulant treatment group, = 112) and group B (selective anticoagulant treatment group, = 52) according to the CHADS-VASc score, which scored for the presence or absence of congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥ 75 years, diabetes mellitus, stroke/transient ischaemic attack, vascular disease, age 65-74 years and gender (female).
For large ground-based telescopes, static and dynamic disturbances would greatly degrade the optical performance. This is especially true for wide field survey telescopes with prime focus optics. The estimation of disturbance effects on large telescopes is becoming increasingly important during the design phase.

To accelerate the practical applications of artificial intelligence, this paper proposes a high efficient layer-wise refined pruning method for deep neural networks at the software level and accelerates the inference process at the hardware level on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The refined pruning operation is based on the channel-wise importance indexes of each layer and the layer-wise input sparsity of convolutional layers. The method utilizes the characteristics of the native networks without introducing any extra workloads to the training phase.

Presently, curcumin derivatives had been paid more attention in view of their high bioavailability or water solubility, which herein possibly replaced the curcumin for their functional applications in future. Here, one novel chemically synthesized curcumin derivative, ZYX01, was used to identify anti-proliferation activity of human non-small lung cancer cells A549 and its anti-proliferative mechanism. Our study showed that ZYX01 could induce autophagic death of A549 cells by morphological observation, MTT assay, acridine orange staining and MDC assay, which possess a dose-and time-dependent manner.
