Objective: Double plate (DP) fixation does not significantly improve outcomes compared to lateral locking plate (LLP-only) fixation for distal femur fractures (DFFs). We hypothesize this is due to the absence of clear indications for the application of these two fixation methods. This study aims to clarify the impact of metaphyseal defect size on the outcomes of these two treatments, in order to optimize surgical efficacy and minimize complications.

To explore the chemical and biological diversities of diterpenoids from the fungus Talaromyces adpressus, a previously unknown biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC, tdn) for sordarin (a well-known fungal antibiotics) was discovered by leveraging the genome mining method. Heterologous expressions of key genes of tdn in Aspergillus oryzae, led to the determination of one new diterpenoid, cycloaraneosene-9-ol-8-one (4), and three known diterpenoids, cycloaraneosene (1), cycloaraneosene-9-ol (2), cycloaraneosene-8,9-diol (3). The structures of 1-4 was elucidated well via detailed analysis of 1D and 2D NMR, GCMS, HRESIMS, IR data, and comparison with reported data.

In this study, we report the rational design and synthesis of carbonized NiFeO superparticles (CarSPs) hierarchically integrated with densely aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) architectures, hereafter denoted as CarSP-CNTs, which exhibit a biomimetic urchin-like morphology. Through exploitation of the colloidal self-assembly and catalytic functionalities inherent to NiFeO nanoparticles (NPs), we achieve seamless integration of one-dimensional CNT arrays with three-dimensional superstructural frameworks. Systematic investigation reveals that the pre-carbonization of surface-bound organic ligands coupled with subsequent CNT growth induces synergistic interplay between conductive carbon matrices and active spinel oxide phases.

However, traditional detection methods currently fail to meet the increasing demands of clinic practice in terms of speed, simplicity, and accuracy. To address these limitations, we developed a novel, rapid, and highly sensitive diagnostic method for universal DENV detection by integrating recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) assay and the Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeat (CRISPR) and associated (Cas) protein 12a (CRISPR/Cas12a) system into one-pot.

Adequate sleep is of paramount importance for relieving stress and restoring mental vigor. However, the adverse physiological and pathological responses resulting from sleep insufficiency or sleep deprivation (SD) are becoming increasingly prevalent. Currently, the impact of sleep deficiency on gut microbiota and microbiota-associated human diseases, especially cardiac diseases, remains controversial.

Early lipid peroxidation drives oxidative stress, disrupting the regenerative microenvironment. Hyaluronic acid (HA), an essential extracellular matrix component, shows promise in mitigating oxidative damage and fostering repair.

This study showed that dietary fiber deficiency enhanced the susceptibility of mice to colitis, which could be attributed to the disruption of the gut barrier integrity, activation of the NF-κB pathway, and oxidative stress. fucoidan (UPF) alleviated colitis symptoms in mice that fed with a fiber deficient diet (FD), characterized by increased weight gain and reduced disease activity index, liver and spleen indexes, and histological score.

Sperm navigate by modulating the symmetry of their flagellar beating, but how they swim forward with asymmetrical beats remains unclear. Current methods lack the ability to robustly detect the flagellar symmetry state in free-swimming spermatozoa, despite its importance in understanding sperm motility.

Fucoidan has attracted significant attention owing to its remarkable bioactivities, but the effect of molecular weight (Mw) on its activities in the context of alcoholic liver diseases (ALD) is poorly understood. In this study, low Mw fucoidan (OSLF) was prepared, and its protective effect against alcohol-induced liver injury was assessed in a mouse model. OSLF increased weight gain and colon length, improved lipid disorders, and reduced oxidative stress in mice exposed to alcohol, alleviating liver injury.

Spliceosome dysfunction and aberrant RNA splicing underline unresolved inflammation and immunopathogenesis. Here, we revealed the misregulation of mRNA splicing via the spliceosome in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Among them, decreased expression of RNA binding motif protein 25 (RBM25) was identified as a major pathogenic factor in RA patients and experimental arthritis mice through increased proinflammatory mediator production and increased hyperinflammation in macrophages.

Polysaccharides can benefit the liver via modulation of the gut microbiota, but the exact mechanism is still unclear. This study demonstrated that the effect of Scytosiphon lomentaria fucoidan (SLF) on alcohol-induced liver injury can be closely related to the level of Parabacteroides distasonis (Pd) via in vivo and in vitro models. Further mice experiment showed that Pd alleviated liver injury and inflammation by suppressing the NF-κB/MAPK pathways and activating Nrf2 pathway.

We simultaneously track the sperm flagellum and the sperm head orientation in the laboratory frame of reference via high-speed high-resolution 4D (3D+t) microscopy, and extract the flagellar waveform relative to the body frame of reference, as seen from a frame of reference that translates and rotates with the sperm in 3D. Numerical fluid flow reconstructions of sperm motility are performed utilizing the experimental 3D waveforms, with excellent accordance between predicted and observed 3D sperm kinematics.

Background: Emerging evidence emphasized the role of oral microbiome in oral lichen planus (OLP). To date, no dominant pathogenic bacteria have been identified consistently. It is noteworthy that a decreased abundance of Streptococcus, a member of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in OLP patients has been commonly reported, indicating its possible effect on OLP.
