Objectives: This cross-sectional study aimed to assess fluid replenishment behaviors, knowledge, and attitudes among Chinese recreational marathon runners and to inform future health education strategies regarding optimal hydration.
Design: The survey was conducted between January and December 2024. Based on previously validated questionnaires, the instrument was adapted and administered to assess hydration behaviors, knowledge, and attitudes among marathon participants in major road races across China.
Purpose: Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are prevalent among endurance athletes, especially marathon runners, and can negatively affect performance and wellbeing. However, data on the prevalence and nutritional contributors to GI symptoms in Chinese recreational long distance runners remain limited. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence, severity, and dietary influences of GI symptoms in this population.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a pathological condition that damages the central nervous system. Due to the persistence of neuroinflammation after injury, the prognosis is often poor. Recent studies have found that local transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can improve SCI.

Background: The increasing popularity of marathon running in China highlights the need to better understand the dietary habits and nutritional needs of marathon runners to optimize performance and health outcomes. The study aimed to assess the dietary behaviors, nutritional knowledge, and running-specific nutritional practices of Chinese marathon runners as part of the China Marathon Nutrition Survey (CMNS).
Methods: This nationwide cross-sectional survey was conducted between January and December 2024.
Background: POEMS syndrome is a rare multisystem disease secondary to plasma cell neoplasm. Due to its rarity, there are no internationally agreed treatment standards, with very limited data to guide management in the relapse setting.
Case Presentation: We describe a 51-year-old woman with initially presented with fatigue, anorexia, nausea, abdominal distension, and edema of the face and both lower limbs, who was diagnosed with POEMS syndrome accompanied with Raynaud's phenomenon and cardiac involvement.
Cephalotane diterpenoids, featuring unique and complicated carbon skeletons and remarkable antitumor activities from the Cephalotaxus genus, have been gaining increasing attention. Herein, we report the asymmetric and divergent total synthesis of benzenoid cephalotane-type diterpenoids containing the identical 6/6/6/5 tetracyclic and the bridged δ-lactone skeleton with different oxidation states. A cascade of C(sp) and C(sp)-H activation has been developed to efficiently prepare the characteristic and synthetically challenging 6/6/6/5 tetracyclic skeleton through a pivotal palladium/NBE-cocatalyzed process.

In this study, we assessed the validity of the Hera Leto consumer earbuds by enrolling twenty-eight athletes as participants. Each participant wore a chest-strap Polar H10, considered the gold-standard reference, while simultaneously testing three HR monitors: the Hera Leto (worn on the ears), the Polar Verity Sense (worn on the upper arm), and the Polar Vantage V (worn on the wrist).

In this study, the quinone group of oxidized tannic acid (OTA) was covalently cross-linked with the amino groups in aminated sugar beet pectin (SBP-NH) to form covalent composite nanonetworks (SBP-NH/OTA NNs). These NNs were subsequently conjugated with cinnamaldehyde (CA) to enhance interfacial activity, enabling the formation of 3D printable high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs).

However, hydrogels formed from TMP alone typically exhibit fragility and brittleness, limiting their development and application. This study investigated the effects of varying chitosan (CS) concentrations on the mechanical properties of TMP hydrogels.

Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR) is a surgical approach that can produce a neural-machine interface to provide additional electromyography (EMG) signals in intuitive control of myoelectric prostheses for high-level limb amputees. Clinically, TMR interface can be built by two types of surgical protocols. The first surgical protocol is to transfer a residual nerve to a denervated targeted muscle using a nerve-to-muscle suture and another is to anastomose a residual nerve to a targeted nerve via a nerve-to-nerve suture.

Aminated sugar beet pectin (SBP-NH) has unique advantages because of its amino groups, which has positive charge and good emulsifying activity. Herein, SBP-NH and CNC were used to fabricate rod-like nanocomplexes (SBP-NH/CNC NCs), and then conjugated with cinnamaldehyde (CA) to enhance interfacial activity for forming 3D printable high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs), and their in vitro digestion properties were evaluated.

Intraosseous ultrasound imaging is valuable for guiding pedicle screw placement in surgery. However, single-frequency ultrasound, whether low or high, often fails to provide both adequate imaging resolution and depth simultaneously. To address this limitation, we introduce a novel ultrafast multi-frequency ultrasound patch fusion imaging method for pedicle screw navigation.

High-Density Surface Electromyography (HD-sEMG) enriches motion intention pattern recognition systems by providing more spatial information. Multichannel linear descriptors (MLD) could provide a comprehensive description of the overall state characteristics within the muscle regions. In this study, an MLD-based spatial feature extraction method was proposed to capture differences and correlations in various muscle regions during movement, ultimately enhancing the system's classification accuracy.

Neuromuscular abnormality is the leading cause of disability in adults. Understanding the complex interplay between muscle structure and function is crucial for effective treatment and rehabilitation. However, the substantial deformation of muscles during movement (up to 40%) poses challenges for accurate assessment.

To address this issue, radiofrequency was developed to investigate the decrystallization efficiency and quality impact mechanism of rape honey. The results showed that radiofrequency significantly decreased the number and size of crystals, leading to shortening the decrystallization time to less than 10 min.

Oxygen uptake (V˙O2) is an essential metric for evaluating cardiopulmonary health and athletic performance, which can barely be directly measured. Heart rate (HR) is a prominent physiological indicator correlated with V˙O2 and is often used for indirect V˙O2 prediction. This study investigates the impact of HR placement on V˙O2 prediction accuracy by analyzing HR data combined with the respiratory rate (RESP) and minute ventilation (V˙E) from three anatomical locations: the chest; arm; and wrist.

Nephrotoxicity remains a major adverse reaction of the anticancer drug cisplatin (CDDP) chemotherapy, which is an important risk factor for chronic renal disease. Ginsenoside Rh2 from Panax ginseng has been shown to protect against CDDP-induced nephrotoxicity in vivo, but its pharmacological effect on renal tubular epithelial cells is not clearly understood. This study examined the molecular mechanisms underlying the nephroprotective effects of Rh2 on CDDP-induced HK-2 cells and acute kidney injury (AKI) mice.

Epigenetic deregulation is strongly associated with tumor progression. The identification of natural tumor suppressors to overcome cancer metastasis is urgent for cancer therapy. We investigate whether myeloid/lymphoid or mixed-lineage leukemia translocated (MLLT) family members contribute to breast cancer progression and found that high MLLT6 expression predicted a better prognosis and that gradually decreased MLLT6 expression was accompanied by breast cancer malignancy.
