Article Synopsis
  • In 2016, the WHO reported approximately 374 million new infections from four curable STIs: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis, highlighting the need for effective screening methods.
  • Recent advancements in point-of-care tests (POCTs) for these STIs show promising results in lab studies, but there is a lack of clinical performance data, particularly among high-risk groups like men who have sex with men (MSM) and women.
  • This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness and user acceptability of molecular-based diagnostic tests (Xpert CT/NG and Xpert TV) for detecting these infections in MSM and women across seven countries, comparing results to established reference tests.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and cytokine levels in patients with drug-induced liver injury (DILI) from various drug categories, assessing how these factors correlate with clinical indicators.
  • A total of 73 patients were categorized based on the type of drug causing DILI, revealing significant differences in liver enzyme levels between groups, particularly higher alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in NSAIDs users compared to those using Chinese herbal medicines.
  • The findings suggest older patients are more susceptible to DILI, and higher levels of inflammation markers (IL-6 and TNF-α) in NSAIDs patients could be linked to more severe liver damage.
