Background: Radiation induced hematopoietic failure was the primary cause of death after exposure to a moderate or high dose of whole body irradiation, causing increased challenge for nuclear or radiological treatment, so it is an urgent need to develop radioprotectors for attenuating hematopoietic damage caused by acute radiation syndrome (ARS). Given the excellent therapeutic effects and special benefits of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in radiation damaged hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) recovery and hematopoietic niche reconstruction, enhancing the hematopoietic niche with the radiotolerance MSCs can be an alternative solution to prevent and attenuate hematopoietic radiation damage, which needs to be studied.

Methods: Here, we constructed MSCs modified with Damage Suppressor Protein (DSUP), a radiotolerance gene identified from tardigrade Ramazzotius varieornatus, and verify its radiation protection effect in HSPCs-MSCs co-culture model in vitro and radiation damaged mice model in vivo.

Human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived red blood cells (RBCs) possess great potential for compensating shortages in transfusion medicine. For better RBC generation from hPSCs, we compared the cell seeding density in the embryoid body formation-based hPSC induction protocol. In the selection of low- and high-density inoculation conditions, we found that low-density culture performed better in the final RBC product with more cell output and increased average cellular hemoglobin content.

To investigate the effects of fertilization methods and types on wheat rhizosphere microorganisms, macroelement (N, K) and microelement (Zn) fertilizers were applied on wheat by foliar spraying (FS) and root irrigation (RI) methods in a field experiment. The results indicated that fertilization methods and types can have significant impacts on the diversity and structure of rhizospheric microorganisms in wheat. The enzymatic activities of Furin, Transmembrane serine proteinase 2 (TMPRSS2), Cathepsin L (CTSL), and Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor binding are necessary for the entry of coronaviruses into host cells.
