The Manglai uranium deposit is located in the Tabei Sag within the Manit Depression, centrally positioned in the eastern Erlian Basin at the core of an ancient valley uranium metallogenic belt. This study analyzed the geochemical properties of 22 clastic and mudstone samples from the Lower Cretaceous Saihan Formation in the Manglai deposit to assess its tectonic setting, provenance direction, redox conditions, and paleoclimatic environment. Key findings reveal that (1) The primary sediment source of the Saihan Formation in the Manglai deposit consists of felsic igneous rocks, situated mainly in a passive continental margin setting.

2, 2', 4, 4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47), one of the most abundant and toxic congeners of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), has been implicated in thyroid disorders, but its thyroid toxicity in human thyroid cells and underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Given the pivotal role of the V-Raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B (BRAF) and the downstream mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK)- signal-regulated kinase (ERK) pathway in cell proliferation, differentiation, cell cycle and thyroid functions, in this study, we constructed BRAF knockout (BRAF-KO) and overexpression (BRAF-OE) cell models using Nthy-ori 3-1 cells, to evaluate the effect of BDE-47 on human thyroid cells and explore the potential mechanisms. Our results showed that exposure to BDE-47 resulted in reduced cell viability, Gap 2 (G2)/mitosis (M) phase cell cycle arrest, enhanced cell migration, and decreased cell invasion.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) constitutes a significant global public health challenge, posing a serious threat to human health. In clinical practice, physicians frequently resort to empirical antibiotic therapy without timely Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST) results. This practice, however, may induce resistance mutations in pathogens due to genetic pressure, thereby complicating infection control efforts.

Background: The existing evidence regarding the relationship between the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) and cardiovascular mortality risk remains relatively limited and controversial, particularly within the context of competing risk scenarios. This study seeks to investigate this relationship, while further incorporating the impact of non-cardiovascular mortality as a competing risk event to this association.

Methods: Data of eligible participants were extracted from National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 1999-2018.

To fire action-potential-like electrical signals, the vacuole membrane requires the two-pore channel TPC1, formerly called SV channel. The TPC1/SV channel functions as a depolarization-stimulated, non-selective cation channel that is inhibited by luminal Ca. In our search for species-dependent functional TPC1 channel variants with different luminal Ca sensitivity, we found in total three acidic residues present in Ca sensor sites 2 and 3 of the Ca-sensitive AtTPC1 channel from that were neutral in its ortholog and also in those of many other Fabaceae.

Aldo-keto reductase family 1 member B10 (AKR1B10) is a potential marker of several types of cancer; however, the role of AKR1B10 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remains unclear. In the present study, AKR1B10 RNA-seq data and clinical information were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) database to evaluate the role of AKR1B10 in HNSCC. There was no statistically significant difference in the expression of AKR1B10 between HNSCC tissues and adjacent normal tissues, and high AKR1B10 expression was not associated with poor overall survival according to the public database.

The musty odorant (2-methylisoborneol, MIB) is prevalent in source water reservoirs and has become one of the major challenges for drinking water quality. This study proposes an approach to control the growth of MIB-producing cyanobacteria in a small reservoir based on hydraulic regulation, according to the results of long-term field investigations, laboratory culture experiments, model construction, and field application. Field investigations found that longer hydraulic retention time (HRT) is a factor that triggers MIB episodes.

In comparison with the middle- and high-latitude regions, the low-latitude regions are less associated with the occurrence of 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) episodes, since most of the previously identified MIB producers favor moderate/low light/temperature conditions. Here, we report a serious MIB outbreak over the period from Jul. 2018 to Jun.

Voltage-gated ion channels confer excitability to biological membranes, initiating and propagating electrical signals across large distances on short timescales. Membrane excitation requires channels that respond to changes in electric field and couple the transmembrane voltage to gating of a central pore. To address the mechanism of this process in a voltage-gated ion channel, we determined structures of the plant two-pore channel 1 at different stages along its activation coordinate.

Cyanobacteria release 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) as a secondary metabolite. Here, we propose a reverse transcription quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR) based method to evaluate the MIB-producing potential in source water by detecting the MIB-synthesis gene (mic). A MIBQSF/R primer set was designed based on 35 mic gene sequences obtained from 12 pure-cultured MIB-producing strains and 23 sequences from the NCBI database.

Odor problems in source water caused by 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) have been a common issue in China recently, posing a high risk to drinking water safety. The earthy-musty odorant MIB has an extremely low odor threshold (4-16 ng/L) and is hard to remove via conventional processes in drinking water plants (DWP), and therefore could easily provoke complaints from consumers. This compound is produced by a group of filamentous cyanobacteria, mainly belonging to Oscillatoriales.

In contrast to the plasma membrane, the vacuole membrane has not yet been associated with electrical excitation of plants. Here, we show that mesophyll vacuoles from Arabidopsis sense and control the membrane potential essentially via the K-permeable TPC1 and TPK channels. Electrical stimuli elicit transient depolarization of the vacuole membrane that can last for seconds.
