Purpose: This meta-analysis aimed to examine the association between hearing loss and social integration as well as the effectiveness of audiologic rehabilitation interventions.
Method: Academic databases were comprehensively searched up to December 2023 to identify relevant cross-sectional cohort studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with participants aged 45 years and older. Outcome effects were reported as odds ratios (s) for observational studies and standardized mean differences (SMDs) for intervention studies, and pooled analyses were conducted using the random-effects model.
Parkinson's disease (PD) involves progressive dopaminergic neuron degeneration and motor deficits. Oligodendrocyte dysfunction contributes to PD pathogenesis through impaired myelination. Single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) of PD mice revealed compromised oligodendrocyte differentiation and downregulation.

In this research, we identified and characterized two capsidless, bi-segmented positive-sense RNA mycoviruses: Verticillium dahliae ormycovirus 1 (VdOMV1) and VdOMV2, both of which infect Verticillium dahliae, a fungal pathogen causing vascular wilt of cotton. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that VdOMV1 and VdOMV2 cluster within the ormycovirus group, an evolutionary lineage unique to Riboviria.

Background: The rising mortality rates in sepsis highlight the current lack of reliable therapeutic biomarkers. This study aims to identify markers associated with biological functions to offer new strategies for sepsis diagnosis.
Methods: We conducted differential expression analysis to identify differentially expressed messenger RNAs (DEmRs), long non-coding RNA (DElncRs), and microRNAs (DEmiRs) in sepsis compared to healthy controls.
Background: Although CRC incidence is declining overall, early-onset colorectal cancers are increasing. No prognostic models currently exist for predicting postoperative survival in Stage I-III early-onset colon or rectal cancer. Such tools are urgently needed to enable individualized risk assessment.

Atomic hydrogen (H*)-mediated indirect electrochemical reduction has regarded as a highly effective strategy for halogenated organic pollutants (HOPs) removal in wastewater. The efficient generation and prompt utilization of H* are critical factors which directly determine the degradation performance. This study presented a new strategy for the electro-reduction of a typical HOP-2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP), achieved by modulating the electronic structure of a PdCo bimetal electrode (PdCo/CP).

Evidence on the effectiveness of auditory rehabilitation and hearing health education in the social domain of health for individuals with HI is scarce.
Objective: This study aims to test the feasibility and efficacy of providing free hearing aids or a combined offline and online hearing health education intervention on social isolation and functioning among Chinese adults with HI.
Background: Despite the success of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in suppressing HIV-1 replication, some people living with HIV-1 (PLWH) fail to achieve an optimal recovery of CD4 T cells, and precise metabolic regulation underlying immune recovery remained poorly understood.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, mass spectrometry was used for quantitative analysis of plasma metabolome and lipidome in 24 treatment-naïve PLWH (TNs), 33 immunological responders (IRs), 35 immunological non-responders (INRs), and 16 healthy controls (HCs). The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman correlation, and LASSO regression analysis.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized the treatment of many malignant tumors. However, ICI-induced hyper-immune activation causes cardiotoxicity. Traditional treatments such as glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants have limited effectiveness and may even accelerate tumor growth.

Subsoils, below 20 cm, underpin fundamental agroecosystem sustainability traits including soil carbon storage, climate regulation and water provision. However, little is known about the ecological stability of subsoils in response to global change.

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), a form of non-ischaemic myocardial disease, is characterised by structural and functional cardiac abnormalities. As defined by the World Health Organisation, DCM constitutes a significant cardiac pathology, leading to increased morbidity and mortality due to complications such as heart failure and arrhythmias. The diagnostic process for DCM predominantly employs echocardiography and MRI, with biomarkers like NT-pro BNP and troponin providing supportive, yet non-specific, evidence.

Furthermore, evidence indicates that ferroptosis may act as an immunogenic form of cell death with potential physiological functions in tumors and immunosuppression. Inducing ferroptosis in tumor cells may have the potential to complement cancer immunotherapy strategies.

Background: The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of dexamethasone on human lens epithelial cells (HLECs) and the potential mechanisms.
Methods: HLECs (HLE-B3) were cultured to assess the effects of dexamethasone on cell size at different concentrations. Immunofluorescence staining was used to detect specific protein expression in HLE-B3 cells.

Objective: To explore the role of the natural compound hesperidin in glycolysis, the key ratelimiting enzyme, in colorectal cancer (CRC) cell lines.
Methods: In vitro, HCT116 and SW620 were treated with different doses of hesperidin (0-500 µmol/L), cell counting kit-8 and colone formation assays were utilized to detected inhibition effect of hesperidin on CRC cell lines. Transwell and wound healing assays were performed to detect the ability of hesperidin (0, 25, 50 and 75 µmol/L) to migrate CRC cells.
Pikeperch () is a species with great potential for aquaculture in Eurasian countries, while feed costs limit the scale of pikeperch farming. Adding carbohydrates to the feed as an energy source is a viable approach to reduce costs and to improve the culture status of pikeperch. In this study, in order to determine the optimal carbohydrate requirement of pikeperch, three tapioca starch (8%, 10%, and 12%) added feeds were produced with isonitrogenous (51%) and isolipidic (11%).

Background: The co-infection of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and tuberculosis poses a lethal threat. Currently, our understanding of the altered immune responses and diverse immune cell subpopulations triggered by dual pathogen infections remains inadequate.
Methods: We utilized single-cell RNA sequencing data from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and the China National GeneBank Nucleotide Sequence Archive to study peripheral blood mononuclear cells from individuals infected with HIV-1 and those co-infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb)/HIV.
Background: Cognitive impairment is one of the major diseases facing the aging population. The progressive decline of cognitive function can lead to declining health or even the loss of life, work, and social ability. Exercise and behavioral stimulation can increase neurotransmitters in the brain and improve overall health and cognitive function.

Background: The substrate employed in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) constitutes an essential element in the cancer detection methodology. In this research, we introduce a three-dimensional (3D) structured SERS substrate that integrates a porous membrane with silver nanoparticles to enhance SERS spectral signals through the utilization of the aggregation effect of silver nanoparticles. This enhancement is crucial because accurate detection results strongly depend on the intensity of specific peaks in Raman spectroscopy.

A cascade nanoreactor that integrates photodynamic therapy (PDT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) for comprehensive multimodal OSCC treatment is introduced. Utilizing iron oxide and mesoporous silica, the FMMSH drug delivery system, encapsulating the photosensitizer prodrug δ-aminolevulinic acid (δ-ALA), is developed.

TAMs promote the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of tumour cells by remodelling the extracellular matrix, inhibiting immunity, promoting immune escape and tumour angiogenesis, and affecting cell metabolism. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used clinically in China for millennia.
