Brain tumors are one of the most dangerous cancers with serious effects on human health. The primary treatment approach involves a combination of surgery, supplemented by postoperative radiotherapy. The growth pattern of malignant tumor is typically infiltrative, posing a challenge in visually distinguishing the tumor from the surrounding normal brain tissue during surgery.

Background: Sepsis, characterized by organ dysfunction due to a dysregulated immune response, is diagnosed using the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, which currently lacks immune function markers. The objective of this research is to enhance the predictive precision of SOFA for sepsis by integrating lymphocyte count as an indicator of immune system functionality.
Methods: This retrospective study was based on the MIMIC-IV database.

Piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) based on electrospun membranes hold significant promise for applications in wearable electronics, biomedicine, and multifunction sensors. The evolution of composite fiber membranes can effectively address the challenges of low output power and poor stability in PENGs. Herein, a composite structured polyaniline-coated halloysite nanotube (PANi@HNT) was synthesized through oxidative polymerization.

This study compared the outcomes of VP shunt placement using electromagnetic (EM) navigation versus standard methods in patients with iNPH, focusing on catheter accuracy and postoperative complication rates.
Methods: This retrospective study included 31 patients with iNPH who underwent standard shunt placement using anatomical landmarks and 50 patients who underwent EM-guided shunt placement.

Background: Although some evidence shows the beneficial effects of meal replacements (MRs) on dyslipidaemias, it is not completely clear. Therefore, we investigate the possible effects of total and partial MRs on lipid profiles.
Methods: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched MEDLINE, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and Embase.
Background: Sepsis presents a significant healthcare challenge, characterized by high morbidity and mortality rates. There is a scarcity of relevant studies investigating the association between serum lactate dehydrogenase level and the prognosis of sepsis in patients from intensive care unit, with smaller sample sizes compared to other studies.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted utilizing data from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV).

Traumatic main bronchus rupture is a relatively rare injury in thoracic trauma, which is extremely critical, with a mortality rate as high as 70% - 80%. The complete rupture and displacement of the traumatic cervical trachea can lead to asphyxia, hypoxia, and cardiac arrest, even death of the patient in a short time. We performed emergency surgery with the support of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for a case of traumatic cervical tracheal trunk complete rupture and displacement combined with cardiac arrest and achieved a successful rescue.

The global prevalence rate for congenital hydrocephalus (CH) is approximately one out of every five hundred births with multifaceted predisposing factors at play. Genetic influences stand as a major contributor to CH pathogenesis, and epidemiological evidence suggests their involvement in up to 40% of all cases observed globally. Knowledge about an individual's genetic susceptibility can significantly improve prognostic precision while aiding clinical decision-making processes.

Spinel cathode materials have great application prospects in lithium batteries (LIBs) due to their characteristics of abundant raw materials, simple preparation processes, and cobalt-free nature. During the electrochemical cycles, the specific capacity of the electrodes decreases significantly due to the dissolution of excess metal ions and mechanical degradation, which hinder their further application and development. Here, a bending curvature measurement system (BCMS) was designed to simultaneously measure the mechanical properties of the spinel cathodes during the electrochemical reaction.

Using the Google earth engine(GEE) to establish a remote sensing ecological index (RSEI), the spatio-temporal changes in the ecological environment quality of the Huaihe River Basin from 2002 to 2022 were evaluated combined with trend analysis, variation coefficient, and Hurst index. The main driving factors of spatial differentiation of RSEI were explored using the geographic detector.

This meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies on AIS patients without EVT assessed the effectiveness and safety of platelet GP IIb/IIIa antagonists compared with traditional antiplatelet or thrombolysis therapy. Articles were retrieved from databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Cochrane.

Background: The ovary is highly sensitive to radiation, and patients receiving radiotherapy are at significant risk of premature ovarian failure (POF). This study aimed to explore the radioprotective effect of honokiol (HKL) on ionizing radiation (IR)-induced POF.
Methods: Female C57BL/6 mice were administered intraperitoneally with vehicle or HKL once daily for 7 days.

Objective: To develop a nomogram for predicting the occurrence of sepsis-associated delirium (SAD).
Materials And Methods: Data from a total of 642 patients were retrieved from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC III) database to build a prediction model. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify independent predictors and establish a nomogram to predict the occurrence of SAD.
UVB exposure accelerates skin aging and pigmentation. Melatonin effectively regulates tyrosinase (TYR) activity and aging. The purpose of this study was to determine the association between premature senescence and pigmentation, and the mechanism of melanin synthesis effected by melatonin.

Methods: Adult mice received 6 hours of total sleep deprivation from 1 day prior to SMIR until the third day after surgery. Mechanical and heat-evoked pain was assessed before and within 21 days after surgery.

In the emergency department, open endotracheal suctioning for mechanically ventilated patients with endotracheal intubation will lead to the spread of respiratory droplets and aerosols, polluting the surrounding environment and medical staff. The traditional heat-and-moisture exchanger has the effect of warming and humidifying, and can block pathogenic microorganisms, but it does not have the function of inserting a sputum suction tube. When the heat-and-moisture exchanger is pulled out for sputum suction, it is easy to cause sputum splash, which pollutes the surrounding environment and medical personnel.

Recently, Toll-like receptors (TLRs) have been extensively studied in radiation damage, but the inherent defects of high toxicity and low efficacy of most TLR ligands limit their further clinical transformation. CRX-527, as a TLR4 ligand, has rarely been reported to protect against radiation. We demonstrated that CRX-527 was safer than LPS at the same dose and had almost no toxic effect .
