The hetero photooxidation of sulfide under aqueous conditions is of great importance in the green synthesis of sulfoxide. This process requires a type of solid photocatalyst with the properties of high porosity and water stability, as well as photosensitivity. Herein, a stable Ir-Zr-MOF material (compound 1) with high porosity is assembled from two linear linkers of a 2-phenylquinoline-4-carboxylic acid-Ir(III) complex (Irphen) and 4,4'-stilbenedicarboxylic acid (HSDC), and a Zr cluster.

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT), which involves the activation of sonosensitizers to generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species under ultrasound irradiation, is a promising noninvasive modality for cancer treatment. However, the clinical translational application of SDT is impeded by the lack of efficient sonosensitizers, the inefficient accumulation of sonosensitizers at tumor sites, and the complicated immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Herein, we developed a facilely synthesized multifunctional porous organic polymer nanosonosensitizer (mHM@HMME) for enhanced SDT.

Ophthalmic manifestations have recently been observed in acute and post-acute complications of COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection. Our precious study has shown that host RNA editing is linked to RNA viral infection, yet ocular adenosine to inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing during SARS-CoV-2 infection remains uninvestigated in COVID-19. Herein we used an epitranscriptomic pipeline to analyze 37 samples and investigate A-to-I editing associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, in five ocular tissue types including the conjunctiva, limbus, cornea, sclera, and retinal organoids.

Mast cell leukemia is a rare and aggressive disease, predominantly with D816V mutation. With poor response to conventional poly-chemotherapy, mast cell leukemia responded to the midostaurin treatment with a 50% overall response rate (ORR), but complete remission rate is approximately 0%. Therefore, the potential mechanisms of midostaurin resistance and the exact impacts of midostaurin on both gene expression profile and mast cell leukemia microenvironment are essential for design tailored combination therapy targeting both the tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment.

  • CD5+ lymphoma cells lead to worse outcomes in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), particularly for patients who are not double expressors of MYC and BCL2.
  • The presence of CD5+ cells is linked to an increased number of M2 macrophages and elevated lipid metabolism in the tumor microenvironment, which aids the activation and polarization of these immunosuppressive cells.
  • Metformin treatment showed promise in reducing M2 macrophage proportions and CD36 expression, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for improving outcomes in CD5+ non-DE DLBCL through the modulation of lipid metabolism.

  • Sarcopenia, a significant disorder in older adults, causes a gradual decline in muscle function, but exercise can help prevent or slow its development.
  • A study using 21-month-old zebrafish showed that they experience reduced swimming ability, muscle deterioration, and increased oxidative stress, making them a useful model for studying sarcopenia.
  • After eight weeks of exercise, the zebrafish displayed improvements, with changes in mitochondrial function linked to the activation of certain cellular pathways, suggesting new targets for treating age-related sarcopenia through exercise.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists used a special DNA test called DNA barcoding to find out what kind of plants are in a group of 23 unknown medicinal plants from the Li minority.
  • They took DNA from these plants and looked at specific parts of the DNA to help identify them.
  • They were able to figure out the exact species for 17 plants, placed 5 plants into their correct genus, and identified 1 plant at the family level, showing that DNA barcoding is a fast and precise way to know about these plants.

To date, interventional therapy for patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) due to hepatic vein obstruction (HVO) has not been standardized in China. In Western countries, BCS primarily occurs due to thrombosis and the majority of patients receive thrombolysis. In China, BCS is mostly caused by the membranous occlusion of the HV or IVC.
