Purpose: Men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) often experience erectile dysfunction (ED). While transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) can improve ED, new-onset ED remains a concern. This study compares monopolar (M-TURP) and bipolar (B-TURP) techniques, with a subgroup analysis based on phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor (PDE5i) use.

Proper alignment between donor and recipient cartilage in osteochondral allograft transplantation supports tissue integration and the formation of a stable articulating surface. This study evaluated the use of patient-specific 3D-printed drill guides to improve alignment in an ovine model of osteochondral allograft transplantation when used in place of a free-hand drilling technique. Fourteen female Arcott sheep underwent bilateral osteochondral allograft transplantation.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) can modernize occupational health and safety (OHS) practice and provide solutions to the most complex health and safety challenges. Empirical data on firm-level AI utilization in OHS practice remain limited. The objective of this study was to examine AI use for OHS and firm-level descriptive and OHS characteristics associated with AI use.

Background: Intravenous lipid emulsions are a key component of parenteral nutrition, and their fatty acid compositions may influence immune responses and clinical outcomes.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study conducted from January 2020 to December 2022 compared clinical outcomes of hospitalized non-critical care patients receiving parenteral nutrition with either mixed oil or soybean oil lipid emulsions for at least 48 h. The primary outcome was a composite of the presence of pneumonia, urinary tract infection, or an intra-abdominal collection diagnosed within 14 days of initiating parenteral nutrition.

This systematic review examines the prognostic value of baseline optical coherence tomography (OCT) biomarkers in predicting visual acuity (VA) outcomes for eyes with macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusions (RVO) treated with anti-VEGF therapies, steroids, laser photocoagulation, or combination treatments. VA predictions at 6, 12, and 24 months post-treatment were assessed using a narrative synthesis approach and vote counting based on effect direction relative to a minimal clinically important difference. Certainty of evidence was evaluated using GRADE guidelines.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a growing worldwide health concern. Danggui Shaoyao San (DGSYS) was an frequently-used representative prescription to "promote blood and water and harmonize the body" in traditional Chinese medicine, and its underlying mechanism against AKI remains to be elucidated.
Aim Of The Study: To investigate the protective effect and potential molecular mechanism of DGSYS in alleviating AKI by network pharmacology and experiment validation.

Background And Objectives: Evidence syntheses systematically compile and analyze information from multiple sources to support health care decision making. As many different types of questions need to be answered in health care, different evidence synthesis types have emerged. In this article, we introduce the most common types of evidence synthesis.

We report the forensic and clinicopathological spectrum of 14 postmortem cases involving the vertebral artery. In all cases, there was either pontocerebellar infarction (n = 8) or subarachnoid hemorrhage (n = 6). The underlying pathology of the vertebral artery was segmental mediolytic arteriopathy (n = 5), traumatic rupture of the arterial wall (n = 3), arterial dissection (n = 2), or atherosclerosis (n = 4).

Agriculture intensification represents an essential strategy to ensure food security for the growing human population, but it also poses considerable environmental concerns. Climate change and associated projections of an increased frequency of extreme precipitation and runoff events may amplify nutrient dynamics along the watershed-lake continuum, and could further exacerbate the poor water quality conditions downstream. Identifying hotspot locations with higher propensity for sediment and nutrient export and designing effective mitigation measures at the source is more critical than ever.

Background: Dyskinetic cerebral palsy (DCP) is a severe subtype of cerebral palsy in which children often present substantial functional impairment and multiple comorbidities. Our knowledge of the clinical picture of DCP is limited and our understanding of which markers best predict later impairment is scarce. This study aims to describe the presentation of DCP and examine the value of gestational age (GA) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings as early markers of eventual DCP prognosis.

BackgroundHealthcare workers are increasingly subject to violence, aggression, and discriminatory requests from patients and families, reflecting broader societal biases within healthcare settings. In response, some institutions have developed policies and decision-making tools to guide leaders in addressing these situations ethically, consistently, and in accordance with human rights obligations.AimThis paper describes the revision of a previously published Caregiver Preference Algorithm to guide healthcare leaders in managing discriminatory patient requests.

Objectives: In ENGAGE, patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) demonstrated improvements in patient-reported depression and life engagement while taking adjunctive brexpiprazole. This analysis aimed to further characterize patient perspectives on the effects of adjunctive brexpiprazole, using patient diary data from ENGAGE, and describe development of a 'word of the day' activity.
Methods: Prior to ENGAGE, word lists describing a 'good,' 'average,' and 'bad' day with depression were generated from semi-structured interviews with patients with MDD.

Most complex V subunits are nuclear encoded and so far, were not found in association with recognized Mendelian disorders. ATP5PO is a candidate gene for complex V mitochondrial disease. It encodes the oligomycin sensitivity-conferring protein (OSCP), an essential component of the "stalk" region that links the F1 and F0 domains of the ATP synthase complex.

Heterostyly is a polymorphic floral adaptation controlled by supergenes. The molecular basis of distyly has been investigated in diploid species from several unrelated families, but information is lacking for polyploid systems. Here, we address this knowledge gap in Schizomussaenda henryi, a tetraploid distylous species of Rubiaceae, the family with the greatest number of heterostylous species.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) has become one of the major health burdens in the world with high mortality rates, especially at the advanced stages. The C-reactive protein (CRP)-albumin-lymphocyte (CALLY) index is a novel multidimensional biomarker combining systemic inflammation, nutritional status, and immune function. This study evaluated the association between the CALLY index and overall survival (OS) as well as recurrence-free survival (RFS) in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients.

Background: The rise in malignant hepatopancreatobiliary tumors disproportionately affects low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) due to systemic challenges. In 2023, the International Hepatopancreatobiliary Association (IHPBA) launched a relationship-building initiative to mitigate outcome disparities by increasing capacity and quality. This study aimed to understand the dynamics and value of such collaborations.

Objectives: To report the impact of ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) on lung transplantation practices and clinical outcomes. This study presents the largest single-centre EVLP experience to date, highlighting how EVLP has transformed clinical lung transplantation with expansion of donor access, program growth, and the safe use of extended criteria donor lungs.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 1,000 consecutive EVLP procedures performed between 2008 and 2024 at University Health Network's Toronto General Hospital.
