Folate receptor alpha (FRα) is a high-affinity folate transporter overexpressed in various epithelial malignancies, particularly high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. Given its restricted expression in normal tissues and accessibility in tumors, FRα is an emerging therapeutic target. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is the standard method for FRα assessment; however, interpretation is semi-quantitative and prone to interobserver variability.

This case report presents a unique constellation of symptoms-including dry eye disease, visual and general asthenia, sleep disturbances, and restless legs syndrome-in a patient with a recent history of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. While these symptoms have individually been associated with either COVID-19 or long COVID, their concurrent presentation and the simultaneous, positive response across all manifestations to a combined therapeutic regimen have not been previously described in a single case. The patient demonstrated notable improvement in both ocular and systemic symptoms following a six-week treatment with topical tear substitutes and oral administration of melatonin, and a multivitamin supplement including B-complex vitamins, antioxidants, and neuroprotective agents (Colinplus Delta, Farmaplus Italia Srl, Via Giovanni Porzio 4, 80143 Napoli, Italy).

: Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability and substantially affects the quality of life (QoL) of both survivors and their caregivers. The transition from hospital to home is a vulnerable period characterized by discontinuity of care and insufficient caregiver support. Dyadic interventions-targeting both the survivor and caregiver-have shown promise in improving recovery outcomes.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex and multifactorial disorder affecting reproductive, endocrine, and metabolic functions in women of reproductive age. While environmental and lifestyle factors play a role, increasing evidence highlights the contribution of genetic and epigenetic mechanisms to its pathogenesis. This narrative review aims to provide an updated overview of the current evidence regarding the role of genetic variants, gene expression patterns, and epigenetic modifications in the etiopathogenesis of PCOS, with a focus on their impact on ovarian function, fertility, and systemic alterations.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, managing acute infections in symptomatic individuals, regardless of vaccination status, has been widely debated and extensively studied. Even more concerning, however, is the impact of COVID-19 on pregnant women-especially its effects on fetuses and newborns. Several studies have documented complications in both expectant mothers and their infants following infection.

Pulsed field ablation (PFA) is a novel non-thermal modality for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) in atrial fibrillation (AF), offering myocardial selectivity through irreversible electroporation while sparing surrounding structures. However, concerns have emerged regarding potential subclinical hemolysis, reflected by alterations in biochemical markers such as lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). We conducted a retrospective, single-center study involving 249 patients undergoing PVI: 121 treated with PFA (PulseSelect or FARAPULSE) and 128 with radiofrequency (RF) ablation (PVAC catheter).

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a multifactorial condition associated with significant systemic complications such as cardiovascular disease (CVD), metabolic disorders, muscle wasting, and sarcopenia. While Body Mass Index (BMI) is a well-established indicator of obesity and has prognostic value in COPD, its role in predicting disease outcomes is complex. Muscle wasting is prevalent in COPD patients and exacerbates disease severity, contributing to poor physical performance, reduced quality of life, and increased mortality.

This study explores the sustainable valorization of apple by-products by examining the polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity of peel, flesh, and core at two ripening stages. Ripening significantly enhanced the concentration of bioactive compounds, particularly in the peel, where total polyphenols increased from 124.4 to 423.

Aluminium (Al) is a widespread environmental contaminant known to induce oxidative stress and genotoxic effects in aquatic organisms. While its neurotoxic properties are well documented, the molecular impact of Al on the visual system remains poorly understood. In this study, adult zebrafish () were exposed to 11 mg/L Al for 10, 15, and 20 days to investigate the oxidative and genotoxic responses in ocular tissue.

A 35-year-old male, without significant cardiovascular history, presented with recurrent palpitations. Initial echocardiographic evaluation demonstrated eccentric left ventricular hypertrophy, mild systolic dysfunction, suspicion of a ventricular septal defect, bicuspid aortic valve, and right ventricular dilation. Transesophageal echocardiography revealed an aneurysmal dilation of the right coronary sinus with an aorto-atrial/ventricular fistula, further confirmed by contrast-enhanced computed tomography angiography.

Objective: To assess the role of ureteroscopy (URS) with laser ablation on oncological outcomes, namely, intravesical recurrence (IVR) rate, radical nephroureterectomy (RNU)-to-treat ratio and overall survival (OS), in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), an area of study that has been insufficiently addressed in the literature.
Materials And Methods: A systematic search (PROSPERO: CRD42025642480) was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement. A pooled analysis was performed to quantify the effect size (ES) for IVR rate, radical nephroureterectomy (RNU)-to-treat ratio and OS.

Background: An in-depth analysis of body composition (BC) is fundamental for the assessment of nutritional status. A multifactorial approach is important for this assessment, integrating parameters and measurements obtained through different techniques, most notably bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and ultrasound. In this study, we aimed to evaluate associations between BIA parameters and ultrasound measurements.

Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is an alarmin cytokine possessing a plethora of pleiotropic properties. Human and mouse TSLP exerts their activity a heterodimeric complex composed of TSLP receptor (TSLPR) chain and IL-7Rα. TSLP is predominantly expressed by epithelial cells and keratinocytes but can also be produced by several immune cells and some cancers.

G-quadruplexes are highly polymorphic noncanonical secondary structures of nucleic acids that play important biological roles. Understanding their unfolding mechanisms is essential for elucidating their stability and interactions. In this study, we investigated the thermal unfolding pathways of four biologically relevant G-quadruplex-forming DNA sequences using ultraviolet resonance Raman (UVRR) spectroscopy combined with advanced spectral analysis techniques.

The enzyme γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), located on the surface of cellular membranes, hydrolyzes extracellular glutathione (GSH) to guarantee the recycling of cysteine and maintain intracellular redox homeostasis. High expression levels of GGT on tumor cells are associated with increased cell proliferation and resistance against chemotherapy. Therefore, GGT inhibitors have potential as adjuvants in treating GGT-positive tumors; however, most have been abandoned during clinical trials due to toxicity.
