A major cause of cancer death, colorectal cancer is becoming more common in younger people. The comparative effectiveness of robotic versus laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (TME) as surgical interventions for mid-low rectal cancer following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) remains uncertain. To systematically evaluate oncological, perioperative, and survival outcomes of robotic versus laparoscopic surgery for mid-low rectal cancer following nCRT.

The role of NR2F2 in cancer (Review).

Oncol Lett

November 2025

Department of Neurorehabilitation, Shengli Oilfield Central Hospital, Dongying, Shandong 257000, P.R. China.

The incidence and mortality rates of tumors continue to show an annual upward trend. Since its discovery in 1986, nuclear receptor subfamily 2, group F, member 2 (NR2F2) has been shown to serve a key role in the transcriptional regulation of various genes. Furthermore, NR2F2 has a notable impact on the progression of tumors; however, its role in tumor progression it not yet fully understood.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of sevoflurane (SEV) on cardiomyocyte (CM) pyroptosis following myocardial ischemia (MI). Reverse validation was performed by pharmacologically activating NLRP3 with monosodium urate (MSU) to confirm that SEV's cardioprotective effects were specifically mediated through the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway. Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned to sham (sham), model (conventional anesthesia + MI-reperfusion [MIR] injury modeling), SEV (SEV inhalation anesthesia + MIR injury modeling), and SEV + NLRP3 (SEV inhalation anesthesia + MIR injury modeling + NLRP3) groups.

Background: Carotid artery stenosis is a significant risk factor for ischemic stroke. Two primary interventions, carotid artery stenting (CAS) and carotid endarterectomy (CEA), are commonly used to prevent stroke.

Aims: This study systematically reviews and compares the efficacy and safety of CAS versus CEA in preventing stroke and other related outcomes.

Ketamine is widely used in pediatric anesthesia, but it may induce cortical neuronal damage, leading to apoptosis, neurofibrillary degeneration, and even cell death. miRNAs can regulate the neurotoxicity induced by ketamine in hippocampal neurons. This article explores the role of miR-378a-3p in ketamine-induced impairments, providing a reference for preventing hippocampal neurodegenerative lesions induced by anesthesia.

Background: As the global population of obese individuals surpasses 878 million, the impact of high body mass index (BMI) on hypertensive heart disease (HHD) has risen to the third position among all diseases. However, the specific contribution of high BMI to the burden of HHD remains unclear.

Methods: Data on deaths, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and their age-standardized rates (ASR) were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database.

Endovascular Therapy Versus Medical Management for Large Ischemic Infarct: 1-Year Outcomes of the ANGEL-ASPECT Trial.

Stroke

September 2025

Department of Neurology, Interventional Neuroradiology (D.S., Y.P., F.G., N.M., D.M., Z.M.), Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, China.

Background: Several trials have shown the benefit and safety of endovascular therapy (EVT) compared with medical management (MM) of patients with a large ischemic core in the 90-day follow-up. However, the 1-year outcome comparison between EVT and MM in Asian patients with a large ischemic core has not been investigated. Our aim was to evaluate the 1-year outcomes of patients in the ANGEL-ASPECT trial (Endovascular Therapy in Acute Anterior Circulation Large Vessel Occlusive Patients with a Large Infarct Core).

Background: Standard initial therapy with intensive glucocorticoids requires further optimization due to high relapse rates and unsatisfying long-term outcomes in patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Caffeic acid (CA) has been reported to increase platelet counts in thrombocytopenia. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of CA tablets plus high-dose dexamethasone (HD-DXM) as a novel initial treatment for adults with newly diagnosed ITP.

Minimally invasive approaches to obesity: Evaluating the efficacy and safety of endoscopic gastroplasty.

World J Gastrointest Endosc

August 2025

Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, General Surgery Center, The First Hospital of Jilin University, Changchun 130021, Jilin Province, China.

Obesity is a major global health issue, contributing to numerous comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases. While bariatric surgery remains the gold standard for treating severe obesity, its invasive nature has led to the development of minimally invasive alternatives. Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) is a promising, minimally invasive procedure for weight loss, offering significant weight reduction without the need for surgical incisions.

Colon cancer is a heterogeneous disease, and rare subtypes like triphasic colon cancer are difficult to detect with standard methods. Artificial intelligence (AI)-driven ultrasound combined with genomic analysis offers a promising approach to improve subtype identification and uncover molecular mechanisms. The authors used an AI-driven ultrasound model to identify rare triphasic colon cancer, characterized by a mix of epithelial, mesenchymal, and proliferative components.

A case report of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans with osteolytic.

BMC Musculoskelet Disord

August 2025

Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, No. 1677, Wutai Mountain Road, Huangdao District, Qingdao City, Shandong Province, China.

Background: Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, low-to-intermediate grade malignant soft tissue sarcoma that is prone to local recurrence after surgery but rarely metastasizes to distant sites. However, in this case, the tumor metastasized to the humerus and presented as a solitary lesion.

Case Presentation: A 42-year-old male patient presented with pain and limited mobility in the left upper limb, with a history of surgery for DFSP in the popliteal fossa.

Background: Autoimmune myocarditis (AM) associated with autoimmune diseases can cause complete atrioventricular block (CAVB), but the related autoantigens and the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Anti-SSA/Ro antibodies may play an important role in this process, but cases of AM with positive anti-SSA/Ro antibodies are rare. In addition, arrhythmias, such as atrioventricular block, are very common in patients with autoimmune diseases, but severe atrioventricular block requiring permanent pacemaker implantation is extremely rare.

August 2025

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Shengli Oilfield Central Hospital, Dongying 257000, China.

The reversed halo sign (RHS), also referred to as the atoll sign, represents a distinct imaging finding that was initially characterized in cryptogenic organizing pneumonia and has subsequently been observed in instances of fungal infections, tuberculosis, vasculitis, and tumor pathologies. This case report details the presentation of a patient with primary Sjögren's syndrome and non-specific interstitial pneumonia, who on imaging displayed the RHS-a relatively infrequent finding. Subsequent confirmatory testing, including anti-nuclear antibody panel, lip gland biopsy, and lung biopsy, ultimately confirmed the diagnosis.
