Amniotic fluid stem cell therapy improves erectile function in a diabetic rat model.

Andrology

September 2025

Department of Urology, Knuppe Molecular Urology Laboratory, School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco, California, USA.

Background: Current treatments for diabetic erectile dysfunction, such as phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors, penile injection, or vacuum erection devices, primarily offer symptomatic relief and do not address the underlying pathophysiology, which involves neural, vascular, and smooth muscle degeneration.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of amniotic fluid-derived stem cells in a rat model of diabetic erectile dysfunction by assessing their impact on erectile function and penile tissue regeneration.

Methods: Male Sprague‒Dawley rats were divided into control, diabetic, and amniotic fluid-derived stem cell-treated diabetic groups.

Objectives: Central nervous system infections are linked to a substantial rise in perioperative mortality, with postoperative neurosurgical infections being both prevalent and severe. Although the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) guidelines offer a framework for managing sepsis, their effect on clinical outcomes in neurosurgical patients has yet to be fully explored. The aim of this study was to compare mortality rates and clinical outcomes in neurosurgical patients with sepsis and septic shock treated according to the SSC protocol versus standard care.

A predictive score model based on complete blood count for a single-unit red blood cell transfusion.

Transfus Apher Sci

August 2025

Graduate Program in Medical Technology, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Thammasat University, Pathumthani, Thailand. Electronic address:

Background: Red blood cell (RBC) transfusions are life-saving options for those who are unable to carry oxygen. Although administering a single RBC unit usually elicits a sufficient response, identifying the optimal transfusion trigger can be challenging because this variable remains unknown.

Objectives: This study aimed to develop a one-unit RBC Transfusion Requirement Scoring Model (1RTRSM), a predictive scoring system through studying the value of each CBC parameter and basic demographics of the patients.

The ILAE Neuroimaging Task Force publishes educational case reports that highlight basic aspects of neuroimaging in epilepsy consistent with the ILAE's educational mission. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare, complex, and multisystem autosomal dominant genetic disorder that arises from variations in the TSC1 or TSC2 genes. While characterized by a wide range of clinical manifestations, TSC commonly presents with epilepsy, which is a clinically challenging feature of the condition.

Meniscal root repair is the treatment of choice for reparable meniscal root tears; however, the complete healing rate is less than 60%. To improve healing outcomes, meniscal root reconstruction may serve as a viable alternative. We present an arthroscopic reconstructive technique using a gracilis graft through the anterior-medial collateral ligament portal.

Background: Growing understanding of the heterogenous molecular profiles of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has led to changes in the treatment landscape of advanced NSCLC towards precision medicine to target actionable gene alterations. Practical barriers, such as lack of awareness/understanding of biomarkers, suboptimal quality or sample management, inappropriate use of biomarker testing results, limited patient access to biomarker tests and targeted treatments, and reimbursement/payment challenges, hinder the wider adoption of guideline-recommended biomarker testing. Limited reimbursement of targeted therapies is a key consideration for Thai oncologists when making a treatment choice for their patients with advanced NSCLC in Thailand.

Background: Detecting high-risk esophageal varices (HRV) in cirrhotic patients is crucial for intervention and preventing variceal bleeding. While endoscopy is the gold standard for diagnosis, it is invasive and carries risks. Spleen stiffness measurement (SSM) may improve HRV screening and increase the spared endoscopy rate (SER).

Myeloid/lymphoid neoplasms with eosinophilia and tyrosine kinase gene fusions (MLN-TK) represent rare hematological malignancies driven by pathological fusion genes involving tyrosine kinase genes. Among these, rearrangements of the gene, particularly the rearrangement, are frequently observed as pathogenic mutations. Conversely, instances of the fusion gene are rarely documented.
