Ticks are ectoparasites of major medical, veterinary and ecological importance, transmitting a wide range of pathogens to humans, companion animals and livestock. Understanding the population structure of ticks is essential for uncovering patterns of pathogen transmission, and population genetics provides a powerful method for this purpose. Tick population studies are uniquely challenging as their biology is shaped by complex interactions between hosts, microbiome and environmental factors.

RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) play a pivotal role in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, critically influencing skeletal myogenesis, muscle growth, and regeneration. Despite the recent identification of RBP Rps27l (ribosomal protein S27-like) as a regulator affecting myogenic proliferation and differentiation, its functions and regulatory mechanisms in skeletal muscle development remain largely unknown. In this study, it is observed that muscle-specific Rps27l knock-in (M─KI) mice exhibit significantly increased muscle mass, enlarged myofiber size, a higher proportion of fast-twitch myofibers, and enhanced muscle regeneration capabilities compared to wild-type controls.

Although the association between stress and pain is recognised, little is known about links between chronic pain and stress arising from perfectionist expectations. Two studies compared levels of socially prescribed perfectionism (SPP), self-oriented perfectionism (SOP), self-compassion (SC), and self-efficacy (SE) between individuals with and without chronic pain. In Study 1, 237 participants with chronic pain and 237 without pain completed an online survey.

The scalloped hammerhead and the great hammerhead are large, coastal to semi-oceanic shark species common to waters of the US east coast where they are regularly taken in commercial and recreational fisheries, particularly the bottom longline fishery. High rates of hooking mortality and low rates of population growth are believed to have caused severe declines in the US Atlantic populations of these species. The objective of this study was to determine the physiological stress induced by bottom longline capture in both and .

Current therapies for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), such as olsalazine and cyclosporine, often exhibit limited long-term efficacy and are associated with adverse effects. Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid, shows promise for its anti-inflammatory properties, though its effectiveness as a monotherapy remains inconclusive. This study investigates the therapeutic potential of combining low-dose CBD (10 mg/kg) with olsalazine (50 mg/kg) or cyclosporine (2.

Introduction: Phthalates and bisphenols, chemicals commonly used in the production of plastic products, exhibit endocrine disrupting properties linked to obesity and systemic inflammation. Given the ubiquitous use of plastic chemicals, their adverse impact on human health is of great importance. In this protocol, we describe a randomised controlled trial aimed at testing whether minimising exposure to plastics and plastic-associated chemicals (PACs) in community-dwelling adults with cardiometabolic risk factors can reduce urinary excretion of PACs and improve cardiometabolic health.
