Nonylphenol (NP) has been categorized as a persistent organic pollutant and is ranked among the top-priority contaminants by the United Nations Environment Programme. This widely distributed, persistent endocrine-disrupting chemical poses significant risks to ecosystems and human health. While extensive research has explored its occurrence and remediation in wastewater, comparatively fewer studies have examined its fate and behavior in soil and sediments.

Medium-chain fatty acid triglycerides (MCTs) possess antibacterial, antiviral, nutritional, and other biological activities and have demonstrated significant application potential in humans and terrestrial animals. In recent years, with the development of the green aquaculture industry, MCTs have been gradually applied to aquaculture animals, which can enhance growth performance, improve flesh quality, regulate lipid metabolism, boost immune activity, and modulate the intestinal flora, thereby improving the production efficiency of aquaculture. This paper elaborates in detail on the biological activities of MCTs and their applications in aquatic animals, providing a theoretical and practical basis for the application of MCTs in aquaculture.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the dietary effects of melatonin, particularly in relation to its ability to regulate the immune system. A total of 360 fish were fed with different concentrations of melatonin (0, 30, 60, 120, and 240 mg/kg) for 70 days. The activities of antioxidant and immune-related enzymes in the liver showed that at a concentration of 120 mg/kg, the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, lysozyme, and alkaline phosphatase were significantly increased, while the content of malondialdehyde and the activities of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase were decreased (p < 0.

As consumer demand for quality fish products continues to rise, quality has become a key factor in market competition. Ecological aquaculture research is exploring various farming methods to balance high-quality demand with environmental protection. This study compared three aquaculture models-cage culture (CG), recirculating aquaculture (RAG), and rice-fish co-culture (RG)-by analyzing muscle quality (AOAC, GC-MS), intestinal microbiota (16S rRNA), and liver metabolism (LC-MS) to assess their effects on .

The Asian eel, a medicinal and edible species, lacks systematic research on age-related nutritional and flavor dynamics. To optimize breeding strategies and product differentiation, this study systematically investigated the nutritional composition, flavor profiles, and physical properties of Asian eel muscles across five distinct growth stages (1, 3, 7, 11, and 22 years). Results showed that unsaturated fatty acids increased with age, while ω-3/ω-6 ratios peaked in 1-year-old eels.

The threshold for arsenic (As) in agricultural soils is increasing, posing a significant risk to human health through the food chain. The efficacy of vermiremediation to remove As has been constrained by the limited understanding of earthworms' survival adaptions. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the responses and underlying potential mechanisms of Eisenia fetida to arsenate (As-V).

Progressive intensification of drought regimes worldwide threatens wood decomposition - a critical biogeochemical process in forest carbon cycling. However, the interactions between microbial strategies, wood traits and microclimate in regulating wood decomposition remain poorly understood under drought conditions. In a throughfall exclusion experiment (control 35% and 70% rainfall reduction) across 12 tree species, we found that drought-induced reductions in wood CO efflux rates were primarily driven by wood traits (density and carbon reduction) and shifts in fungal K/r-strategies.

In recent years, foul odors have led to widespread public complaints and have become a prominent issue in the field of environmental protection. Skatole, as one of the important components of foul odors, is a decomposition product of tryptophan in the intestines of animals and is mainly found in animal feces. Skatole not only has significant pulmonary toxicity to animals but also poses potential carcinogenic risks to humans.

Alleviating the accumulation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in farmlands is crucial for restricting the transfer of ARGs to crops and controlling the soil-borne microbiological health risk. Rice and eel co-culture (REC) systems have recently been used as an emerging integrated farming model that can stabilize grain yields and improve fertilizer availability. However, the influence of long-term REC system concerning the aggregation and health risk of ARGs in rice fields is still unclear.

The serious threat posed by microplastics pollution to soil ecosystems and human health has attracted worldwide attention. Microplastics of different types are present in the soil environment, whereas research about the effects of different microplastics on soil ecology are limited. This study sought to determine how three common microplastics (polyethylene (PE), polystyrene (PS), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC)) affect soil physicochemical characteristics, enzyme activities, bacterial community, and their metabolic pathways at a 1 % w/w concentration.

Cow dung and wheat straw are rich in lignocellulose, which has a complex structure, making it difficult to biodegrade. This study investigated the promotion of composting effectiveness and product fertility by adding nanobubble water (Air, CO, He, and N) during aerobic composting of cow dung and wheat straw. Nanobubble water prolonged the high-temperature period by 1-2 days, increased the activity of soil urease and soil ligninase, reduced the lignocellulose content by 1.

Biochar-based fertilizer has potential benefits in improving soil quality and crop yield, but the biological mechanisms of soil microbial enzymes interacting with related metabolisms still need to be further investigated. In this study, we combined enzymology and untargeted metabolomics to investigate how biochar-based fertilizer substitution affects soil quality and crop yield by regulating soil enzymes and metabolites in dry-crop farmland. Our findings showed that biochar-based fertilizer substitution enhanced the activities of enzymes related to carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycling, as well as influenced metabolite composition.

Extensive utilization of pesticides and their persistent residues inadvertently pose threats to the effectiveness and fitness of biocontrol agents in agroecosystems. However, these ecological consequences are generally disregarded when executing integrated pest management strategies (IPM). Cyantraniliprole (CNAP) serves as a wide-spectrum diamide insecticide and its sublethal effects have been well characterized on multiple insect pests, whereas its impacts on beneficial natural enemies remain unfathomed.
