Lettuce prefers a cold and cool climate, and high temperatures can lead to many problems such as tip burn that decrease yield and quality. NAC (NAM, ATAF1/2, and CUC2) proteins are important regulatory factors in abiotic stress responses. In our previous transcriptomic analysis, we identified that is involved in the response to heat stress in lettuce.

Abiotic stress can reprogram the gametophytic pathway; the mechanisms by which floral bud pre-treatment influences microspore embryogenesis initiation remain unclear. In this study, we use bisulfite sequencing, sRNA-seq, and RNA-seq to analyze the dynamic changes in rice microspores under different cold treatment durations. Our results showed that a 10-day cold treatment is essential for CXJ microspore embryogenesis initiation.

Accurate photosynthetic parameters obtained from photosynthetic light-response curves (LRCs) are crucial for enhancing our comprehension of plant photosynthesis. However, the task of fitting LRCs is still demanding due to diverse variations in LRCs under different environmental conditions, as previous models were evaluated based on a limited number of leaf traits and a small number of LRCs. This study aimed to compare the performance of nine LRC models in fitting a set of 108 LRCs measured from paddy rice ( L.

Nakatsugawa Works, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, 1-3 Komanba-cho, Nakatsugawa-shi, Gifu, 508-8666, Japan.

This study investigates the role of Government Social Media (GSM) in enhancing public engagement with Low-Carbon Practices (LCP) in Japan. Motivated by the need to foster sustainable development and mitigate climate change impacts, this research utilizes negative binomial regression model analyzing 1022 posts from nine Japanese government social media accounts. Our findings reveal that increased media richness negatively correlates with engagement, suggesting that content depth over visual appeal is more effective for LCP-related communication.

Understanding urban consumers' preferences for rice attributes is crucial for rice breeders, producers, and retailers to meet diverse and evolving market demands. Based on the sample data of 629 rice consumers in Shanghai, China, obtained through the choice experiment (CE) approach, this study uses the mixed logit (ML) model to analyze consumers' preferences and willingness to pay (WTP) for food safety labels, brands, nutritional quality, and taste quality. Furthermore, the latent class (LC) model examines the heterogeneity in consumer group preferences.

Article Synopsis
  • China's Urban-Rural Resident Basic Medical Insurance (URRBMI) aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and equity, but its effectiveness in improving rural residents' perceptions of social fairness is under scrutiny.
  • The study analyzes data from 20,800 rural respondents using a unique methodology to assess the equity effects of URRBMI, revealing that the program actually has a significant negative impact on social fairness perceptions.
  • Findings suggest variations in this negative impact based on factors like income, age, and region, indicating a need for tailored policy solutions to better address the fairness concerns of rural residents.

Preventing food waste is important. Analyzing the effects of food waste attitudes on urban residents' waste production behaviors is necessary to reduce food waste. As Shanghai is a mega-city with a population of 24 million people, once food is adequately supplied, more attention is paid to the safety of food in terms of quantity, quality, and nutrition.

Payment for watershed ecosystem services (PES) has been applied to water conservation and poverty reduction in an increasing number of developing countries. This study evaluates the effect of payment for watershed ecosystem services on farmers' income in conservation intervention areas using a difference-in-differences model and a panel dataset that covers 18 countries in the Xin'an River Basin in China for fourteen consecutive years (2006-2019). The results show that PES programs increase farmers' income and that the poverty reduction effect is sustainable.

Introduction: The cold stress is one of the most important factors for affecting production throughout year, so effectively evaluating frost damage is great significant to the determination of the frost tolerance in lettuce.

Methods: We proposed a high-throughput method to estimate lettuce FDI based on remote sensing. Red-Green-Blue (RGB) and multispectral images of open-field lettuce suffered from frost damage were captured by Unmanned Aerial Vehicle platform.

Downy mildew caused by the obligate parasite is a devastating disease for species. Infection of often leads to yellow spots on leaves, which significantly impacts quality and yield of pakchoi. In the present study, we conducted a comparative transcriptome between the resistant and susceptible pakchoi cultivars in response to infection.

College of Economics and Management, China Center for Food Security Studies, Nanjing Agricultural University, No.1, Weigang Road, Nanjing, Jiangsu, 210095, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • Farmers face challenges from extreme weather, like spring frost, which affects their crops, especially apple growers.
  • The study shows that when frost happens, apple farmers use more organic fertilizers to help their trees recover and prevent future damage.
  • Factors like money limits and the size of the family labor force affect how much fertilizer farmers can use to adapt to such weather events.

China's flower industry is developing rapidly, and the size of the retail market is increasing year by year. Studying the factors influencing residents' flower purchasing behavior and understanding their flower needs can help promote the sustainable development of the flower industry. Based on customer satisfaction theory, this paper uses 838 consumer research questionnaires from 15 districts in Shanghai to analyze the influence of customer satisfaction on residents' flower purchasing behavior by conducting a binary logit model and to investigate the moderating effect of flower purchasing purpose on the influence of satisfaction.
