Cancer negatively impacts bone health through various mechanisms, including treatment-induced bone loss and malignant bone lesions, often leading to increased fracture risk and higher morbidity and mortality. Antiresorptive agents (bisphosphonates and denosumab) are the current standard of care to reduce the risk of skeletal-related events and prevent treatment-related fragility fractures in patients with cancer. While there is strong evidence to support their benefits in cancer, there is potential room for further reduction in the risk of pathologic and fragility fractures.

Background And Aims: Urinary zinc has been associated with cardiometabolic endpoints, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease, but evidence for peripheral artery disease (PAD) is limited. We evaluated prospective associations between urinary zinc and incident PAD and amputation events in the Strong Heart Study (SHS), a large epidemiological cohort of American Indian adults in the United States.
Methods: A total of 2,045 PAD-free and 2,180 amputation-free participants were included at baseline (1989-91), (mean age 56 years, 61% female).

Physical neural networks (PNNs) are a class of neural-like networks that make use of analogue physical systems to perform computations. Although at present confined to small-scale laboratory demonstrations, PNNs could one day transform how artificial intelligence (AI) calculations are performed. Could we train AI models many orders of magnitude larger than present ones? Could we perform model inference locally and privately on edge devices? Research over the past few years has shown that the answer to these questions is probably "yes, with enough research".

Inguinal herniation of the urinary bladder through the inguinal rings of domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) has been well-described in veterinary literature due to the inguinal rings remaining open throughout the lifespan of adult males. Midline body wall herniation has also been described in several veterinary species due to a variety of etiologies, including trauma, incisional dehiscence, and congenital anomalies. This phenomenon has not previously been described in rabbits.

Van der Woude syndrome (VWS) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by lower lip pits and orofacial clefts (OFCs). With a prevalence of ∼1 in 35,000 live births, it is the most common form of syndromic clefting. Most VWS is attributed to variants in IRF6 (∼70%) or GRHL3 (∼5%), leaving up to 25% of individuals without a molecular diagnosis.

Glyphosate, the most widely used herbicide, undergoes adsorption and abiotic degradation on environmental surfaces, with natural organic matter strongly influencing these processes. The role of organo-mineral associations in regulating glyphosate retention and transformation pathways, however, remains unclear. In this study, we employed time-resolved ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and microfluidic experiments coupled with LC-MS quantification to track glyphosate and its oxidation byproducts.

The parasite causes severe diarrheal disease that can be life-threatening, and effective treatments are sorely lacking. Recently, aspartyl proteases (ASP) have emerged as targets with significant therapeutic potential in several related parasites resulting in the development of multiple potent leads. ASPs are critical to the proteolytic activation and maturation of secretory proteins parasites rely on to invade, manipulate, and upon completion of their replication cycle exit the host cells in which they reside.

Primary cutaneous Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive polymorphic B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder (LPD) is a rare LPD associated with iatrogenic and endogenous immune dysregulation with the commonest risk factor being immunosuppressive therapy. We present a 55-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis, previously on methotrexate, who developed a waxing and waning papulonodular eruption on the chest and neck. Histopathology revealed a lymphohistiocytic infiltrate with atypical EBV+/CD30+ B cells, consistent with EBV+ polymorphic B-cell LPD.

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive large B-cell lymphoma (ALK+ LBCL) is a rare, aggressive subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with poor outcomes using standard chemotherapy. In this multi-institutional retrospective study, we analyzed 39 cases of ALK+ LBCL identified at six US academic centers from 2002 to 2024, with treatment including conventional cytotoxic regimens in frontline and biologically informed and nonchemotherapy-based strategies in the relapsed setting. Ninety-two percent of patients received frontline anthracycline-based chemotherapy; 43% received intensified regimens, and 15% underwent upfront autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT).

Global vegetation growth is thought to be limited by nitrogen (N) more than by other nutrients. Here we document a stronger phosphorus (P) limitation on global photosynthesis compared with N over the last four decades. On the basis of more than 80,000 field observations of foliar nutrients and a machine learning method, we generated a long-term global dataset of foliar N and P concentrations for the period 1980-2017.
