Cyanobacteria achieve highly efficient photosynthesis using a CO-concentrating mechanism relying on specialized Type I (NDH-1) complexes. Among these, NDH-1 and NDH-1 catalyze redox-coupled hydration of CO to bicarbonate, supporting carbon fixation in carboxysomes. The mechanism of coupling electron transfer to CO-hydration by these variant NDH-1 complexes remains unknown.

Forests and grasslands experience shifts in woody plant cover creating a continuum of woody plants across space. Global change accelerates this, causing many ecosystems to experience the redistribution of woody plants. There is growing interest in understanding how these ecological changes influence ecosystem function including climate regulation.

Background: TERT promoter mutation is a rare biomarker in meningiomas associated with aberrant TERT expression and reduced progression-free survival. Although high TERT expression is characteristic of tumours with TERT promoter mutations, it has also been observed in tumours with wildtype TERT promoters. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and prognostic association of TERT expression in meningiomas.

Apurinic/Apyrimidinic (AP)-sites are common and highly mutagenic DNA lesions that can arise spontaneously or as intermediates during Base Excision Repair (BER). The enzyme apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1) initiates repair of AP-sites by cleaving the DNA backbone at the AP-site via its endonuclease activity. Here, we investigated the functional role of the APE1 active site residue N174 that contacts the AP-site during catalysis.

Inguinal herniation of the urinary bladder through the inguinal rings of domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) has been well-described in veterinary literature due to the inguinal rings remaining open throughout the lifespan of adult males. Midline body wall herniation has also been described in several veterinary species due to a variety of etiologies, including trauma, incisional dehiscence, and congenital anomalies. This phenomenon has not previously been described in rabbits.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a global health concern, representing the second most common cause of malignancy-related mortality in the world. The primary cause of HCC in the United States is chronic infection with the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Clinical observations have established sex-based differences in HCV infection with the disease progressing more severely and more rapidly in males and postmenopausal females compared to premenopausal females, suggesting that estrogens and their receptors may play an important role in hepatic defenses and development of HCV-mediated HCC.

HIV and STI incidence are disproportionately elevated among sexual minority men (SMM) and Native American (NA) men in rural Oklahoma. The present study is a formative assessment of the Ending the HIV Epidemic in Rural Oklahoma (e-HERO) project, which is part of the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative. EHE has an overarching goal of reducing incidence rates of HIV and STIs in rural Oklahoma.

Glioblastoma (GB) remains a major challenge owing to its extremely aggressive nature and resistance to conventional therapies. This review focuses on the intricate roles of progenitor cells, microglia, and non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in orchestrating GB pathogenesis and therapy resistance. Glioma stem cells (GSCs), derived from progenitor cells, are important drivers of tumor initiation and recurrence and exhibit remarkable plasticity and resistance to treatment.

Hybridization is increasingly understood as common throughout and beyond the speciation process, rather than an anomaly. Sympatric taxa are expected to exhibit strong reproductive isolation, and although hybridization may occur, it often results in inviable offspring. We investigated hybridization among three ranid frogs (, , and ) in eastern Oklahoma, where their distributions and breeding phenology overlap.

Skeletal muscle is an important organ in the human body for maintaining overall strength and mobility. Skeletal muscle has the capability of self-regeneration, which can be achieved by utilizing specific energy pathways. Therefore, understanding the energy metabolism of skeletal muscle is essential to exploring its regenerative mechanisms.

The original description of is predominantly based on morphological and ecological characteristics. It was postulated that is a cryptic species of the complex, mainly found in the Mediterranean region of Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. Although definitive proof is lacking, genetic insights support that is a distinct species, but that the morphological characteristics, particularly from the adult stages, as well as molecular features, might not be distinctive enough for identification.

Objectives: Neurodevelopmental disorders have significant public health impacts, and novel approaches to understanding these disorders are greatly needed. Social connectedness, including relationships with parents and peers as well as family and school environments, may serve as a protective factor for neurodivergent youth. Neural networks that support social processing could also influence outcomes for these individuals.

Small signaling peptides (SSPs) play a crucial role in various plant biological processes. However, the involvement of SSPs in plant immunity, particularly during host and nonhost bacterial infection remains largely unexplored. We established a pipeline using transcriptomics and genetic experimental validation and identified 243 upregulated and 194 downregulated SSPs upon host and nonhost bacterial pathogen inoculation in Arabidopsis.

Phased arrays are crucial in various technologies, such as radar and wireless communications, due to their ability to precisely control and steer electromagnetic waves. This precise control improves signal processing and enhances imaging performance. However, extending phased arrays to the terahertz (THz) frequency range has proven challenging, especially for high-frequency operation, broadband performance, two-dimensional (2D) phase control with large antenna arrays, and flexible phase modulation.

Background And Objectives: The current study's model, derived from The Developmental Model of Adaptation, investigated the associations of past influences, closeness to parents, and two assessments of current influences (religiosity and social support) on the wellbeing (depressive symptomatology and life satisfaction) of very old adults.
Research Design And Methods: Cross-sectional data came from a convenience sample of 154 cognitively intact, community-dwelling, Oklahoma centenarians. SPSS was employed to assess descriptive statistics and associations among all constructs; M was employed to test a mediational path model linking closeness to parents on life satisfaction and depressive symptomatology through religiosity and social support.

The high costs of floral maintenance modulate floral longevity. In some species with massive flowering and long floral lifespan, floral longevity increases overall display by changing petal colour, which ultimately counterbalances costs of floral maintenance. However, the colour of petals remains unchanged throughout the floral lifespan in some species with long floral longevity, and the reproductive consequences of such combined traits remain elusive.

Infectious disease is a major concern in the swine industry, impacting production as well as animal welfare. In this research, a prediction model for early identification of late nursery pigs within a batch that are at higher risk of requiring health treatments in a dynamic disease environment was developed based on early daily data on feeding and drinking and body weight. For this purpose, a unique dataset was used consisting of 21 batches of up to 75 late nursery pigs that were entered into a natural polymicrobial disease challenge barn to develop and evaluate the prediction models.
