Article Abstract

An experiment was conducted to investigate the optimal dietary calcium (Ca) levels in Jing Tint 6 layer chicks fed different sources of zinc (Zn). A total of 1440 day-old birds with similar body weight (38 ± 0.5 g) were selected and divided into 10 groups with 6 replicates per group, each containing 24 chicks. The experimental period lasted from hatch to d 14. Diets were formulated to contain 2 sources of Zn: organic Zn (80 mg/kg Zn as hydroxy methionine Zn, HMZn) and inorganic Zn (80 mg/kg Zn as Zn sulfate). For each Zn source, 5 diets were formulated with Ca levels of 0.80%, 0.90%, 1.03%, 1.10%, and 1.20%, respectively. The results showed that dietary Ca significantly increased the average daily gain (ADG) ( < 0.001). In addition, ADG was enhanced by the supplementation of organic Zn compared to diets containing inorganic Zn ( = 0.009). Tibia length was significantly increased by the interaction of Ca and Zn ( = 0.038). Serum Ca and P levels were significantly higher in the group supplemented with organic Zn compared to the group fed inorganic Zn ( < 0.05). The apparent total tract retention coefficients (ATTRC) of Ca increased quadratically with the increase of Ca level ( < 0.001). The excreta Ca levels decreased in the group supplemented with organic Zn compared to the group fed inorganic Zn ( < 0.001). The optimal dietary Ca levels were estimated as 0.90%, 0.86% and 0.96% for birds fed organic Zn and 0.91%, 0.92% and 1.06% for birds fed inorganic Zn using non-linear models based on the criteria of ADG, tibial length, and ATTRC of Ca, respectively. In conclusion, supplementing with organic Zn enhanced the growth performance of birds and reduced their calcium requirements from hatch to d 14.

Division of Cardiology, Health Sciences Building, University of Washington Medical Center, 1959 NE Pacific StreetSuite #A506D Box 356422, Seattle, WA, 98195, USA.

Purpose Of Review: Patients living with cancer are at risk for significant potential cardiovascular complications as a direct result of cancer treatment or due to underlying comorbid cardiovascular disease. This article reviews the methods of risk stratification as well as pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic approaches to cardioprotection in cardio-oncology.

Recent Findings: Several cancer-specific risk stratification tools have incorporated variables such as age, sex, cancer subtype, traditional cardiovascular risk factors and cancer treatment-related parameters to assess cardiovascular specific risk prior to cancer therapy.

Background: Fel d 1, the primary allergen produced by cats, is a glycoprotein found mainly in their salivary and sebaceous glands. Due to its small size and stability, it easily becomes airborne and adheres to surfaces, posing a persistent problem for allergic individuals.

Methods: This article reviews innovative strategies aimed at reducing Fel d 1 expression and exposure and mitigating its allergic effects on humans.

Background: Multiple non-pharmacological and nonsurgical interventions have demonstrated efficacy in improving abdominal obesity. However, the optimal intervention remains uncertain. This study aimed to assess the relative effectiveness and safety of these interventions in reducing waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), body mass index (BMI), and body weight among adults with abdominal obesity.

Advanced Applications of Vitamin B Complex in Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Benefits.

Int J Vitam Nutr Res

Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Center, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University, 310003 Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

The vitamin B complex, a group of water-soluble vitamins, is essential for various metabolic and cellular processes and critical for achieving optimal surgical outcomes in plastic and cosmetic procedures. This review examines the mechanistic contributions of this complex at the cellular level, including any roles in mitochondrial bioenergetics, redox balance, gene regulation, and cellular repair mechanisms. Niacinamide, as a precursor to NAD⁺, enhances mitochondrial efficiency and facilitates energy production, supporting tissue regeneration.
