Article Abstract

The biomimetic strategy has been widely used in multiple fields, and provides huge convenience to human life. For biomedical application in vivo, the importance of biomimetic materials lies on mimicking the natural process/behavior as well as mimicking the structure/ingredient. Herein, recent advances of materials processing biomimetic recognition and assembly behavior for in vivo applications, including the natural source materials and artificial materials, are summarized. The biological processes are divided as recognition and assembly as well as recognition and self-amplifying assembly. Finally, to conclude, the application of recognition and assembly process-biomimetic materials in vivo in the future is discussed.

Nucleic acid aptamers are artificial recognition elements with great potential in biotechnology. For their effective integration into nanodevices, rational strategies for optimizing aptamer affinity and regulating activity are essential. Artificial nucleotide analogs offer versatile tools for both fundamental and applied research in the aptamer field.

Zearalenone (ZEN), a mycotoxin produced by fungi of the genus Fusarium, is widely present in animal feeds and human foods, posing a serious hazard to human health. Herein, a zearalenone aptamer-functionalized magnetic metal-organic framework material (ZEN-Apt@MMIL-100(Fe)) was constructed and applied for the rapid enrichment of ZEN, coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for ultrasensitive detection. By a self-templating method, magnetic MIL-100(Fe) was formed by self-assembly of sodium citrate-modified FeO particles as nuclei with homobenzoic acid, which was bonded to amino-modified zearalenone nucleic acid aptamer via amide reaction to realize a specific recognition function.

Archimedean spirals are architectural motifs that are found in nature. The facial asymmetry of amphiphilic molecules or macromolecules has been a key parameter in the preparation of these well-organized two-dimensional nanostructures in the laboratory. This facial asymmetry is also present in the helical grooves of chiral helical substituted poly(phenylacetylene)s (PPAs) and poly(diphenylacetylene)s (PDPAs), making them excellent candidates for self-assembly into 2D Archimedean nanospirals or nanotoroids.

Multi-layered and orthogonal recognition is an excellent route to controlled molecular complexity. Here we report a series of heteroleptic complexes where two ligands pair together at a palladium(II) metal centre in complementary fashion and with orthogonality to others pairs. This complementarity is driven in part through hydrogen-bonding acceptor or donor sites proximal to the coordination domain (either DD:AA or AD:DA).

Intelligent controlled-release drug delivery systems that are responsive to various external stimuli have garnered significant interest from researchers and have broad applications in the biomedical field. Aromatic macrocycles, including calixarenes and pillararenes, are considered ideal candidates for the construction of supramolecular drug delivery systems because of their simple synthesis, ease of modification, electron-rich and hydrophobic cavities, and highly selective molecular recognition. In recent years, numerous supramolecular drug delivery systems utilizing aromatic macrocycles have been developed.
