It has been widely recognized that technologies evolve with recombinant inventions. However, it remains unknown whether technologies developed using different approaches would exhibit different features during evolution. In particular, would technologies developed mainly based on accumulated experience in practices-formulas of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are typical examples of such technologies-have similar evolution features found in modern technologies? This study applied network science to explore the evolution of TCM from the perspective of recombinant inventions based on 59,063 TCM formulas documented over the last two thousand years, with each formula being a combination of components that are mostly herbs. Our results show that similar to modern technological systems, the TCM component networks maintained the core-periphery structures during evolution, and the (weighted) degrees of components followed heavy-tailed distributions. Moreover, simple tuples, which are frequently used combinations of TCM components, serve as building blocks for complex ones. A significant difference with modern technological systems is that the TCM core components were quite stable, while substitutions of core components are frequently observed in modern technological systems, leading to new technological trajectories. TCM comprises ancient knowledge and wisdom. This research provides insight into how it will be like in the future and what is important for its future.

Daily subcutaneous injections of recombinant interleukin-10 (IL-10) demonstrated encouraging but preliminary efficacy in certain tumour types during early phase clinical trials. However, these antitumour effects were not consistently replicated in larger trials, probably due to insufficient intratumoural recombinant IL-10 accumulation, which ultimately restricted clinical benefit. Here we show that intravenous injections of IL-10 messenger RNA (mRNA) nanoparticles (IL-10-mRNA@NPs) induce potent immune surveillance across diverse preclinical tumour models and mitigate systemic toxicities.

Background: Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) was accompanied by iron overload and low levels of calcium (Ca), phosphorus (Pi) and magnesium (Mg), which required downregulating iron and upregulating Ca/Pi/Mg simultaneously. It was confirmed that Ligustri Lucidi Fructus (FLL) had the ability to repair above minerals metabolism bidirectionally, but its pharmacological substance and mechanism were obscure. Previous research revealed the different ratio of Phenylethanols, Iridoids and Triterpenoids in FLL lead to its efficacy changes in anti-PMOP.

The human gut microbiome significantly influences host physiology, metabolism, and immune function. The engineering of microbial communities represents a significant advancement in contemporary biotechnology. Conventional methods, including Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) and probiotic administration, exhibit limitations in efficacy and raise safety and reproducibility concerns; however, they have shown potential therapeutic benefits.

Thyroid function is regulated in a substantial manner by thyroid‑stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR), and aberrant alterations in thyroid function are triggered by the interaction of TSHR with its antibodies, thyroid‑stimulating hormone receptor antibodies (TRAb). The expression, immunogenicity and clinical significance of fusion proteins comprising different structural domains of TSHR were investigated. Fusion proteins containing several human TSHR (hTSHR) structural domains were created.

Breakthrough technological innovations have heralded a transformative era within the automotive industry. Knowledge search diversity, as the key to acquiring the raw materials for knowledge recombination, enables firms to overcome resource constraints and accelerate the realization of breakthrough technological innovations. This paper integrates the theories of organizational search and knowledge recombination theory and draws upon the relationship between knowledge and industry to distinguish between basic knowledge search diversity and applied knowledge search diversity.
