Herein, the ultrasound-assisted extraction conditions affecting the yield of EUPS ( polysaccharide) were analyzed using a Box-Behnken response surface design. The alleviation effect of EUPS on diquat-induced oxidative stress in mice was also studied. A maximum EUPS yield of 2.60% was obtained under the following optimized conditions: an extraction temperature of 63 °C, extraction time of 1 h, and ratio of liquid to raw materials of 22:1. EUPS exhibited strong 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging ability (87.05%), 2'-Azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonate) (ABTS) radical-scavenging ability (101.17%), and hydroxyl radical-scavenging ability (62.92%). The administration of EUPS increased the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase and decreased malondialdehyde levels in the livers of mice exposed to diquat. EUPS may inhibit the downregulation of NAD(P)H:quinoneoxidoreductase 1 and heme oxygenase 1 mRNA expression in the livers of diquat-administered mice through the Nrf2-Keap1 signaling pathway. Moreover, the abundance of Firmicutes and was enhanced, whereas that of Helicobacter decreased in the gut of the remaining groups of mice compared with that of the diquat-treated mice. Therefore, EUPS exhibited an antioxidant effect and improved oxidative stress and intestinal flora abundance in mice.

Fresh walnuts are prone to moisture loss and spoilage after harvest, leading to reduced appearance and sensory quality. In this study, a multifunctional chitosan (CS)-based film was fabricated by incorporating a bacterial cellulose/oregano essential oil (BC/OEO) Pickering emulsion, with hydrogen bonding promoting cohesive matrix integration. The film's physicochemical properties, along with its antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, were systematically evaluated.

Inspired by spider silk, polyphenolic nanodots (PTa) loaded multi-layer MXene (mMXene-PTa) through hydrogen and coordination bonds was prepared by self-polymerizing tannic acid on mMXene and used as a new crosslinker for polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Together with starch (ST), mMXene-PTa was compounded with PVA and exfoliated to fabricate PVA/ST/mMXene-PTa nanocomposite. The phenolic hydroxyl groups in PTa formed high-density H-bonds with PVA and ST, creating an organic-inorganic dynamic crosslinking network with mMXene-PTa as nodes.

Tree species adopt diverse drought resistance strategies, which are crucial for the ability of karst vegetation to adapt to drought stress. However, our understanding of how to differentiate these strategies remains limited, particularly with respect to identifying indicator traits that can accurately distinguish the drought resistance strategies used by different species. In this study, we use principal component analysis based on functional traits to distinguish the drought resistance strategies of and ; we identify key indicator traits reflecting differences in drought resistance strategies by analyzing the correlations of the same traits across different plant species.

Background: Rabbits often suffer from diarrhea post-weaning, necessitating eco-friendly alternatives to banned antibiotic feed additives. This study aimed to investigate the effect of xylo-oligosaccharide (XOS) on the in vitro proliferation of 94 lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains derived from the gut of rabbits.
Results: XOS significantly enhanced the growth of 34 LAB strains (36.

Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation severely damages human skin by causing DNA damage, oxidative stress, and collagen degradation. This study explored the photoprotective properties of Asparagus cochinchinensis extracts fermented with endophytic fungus Aspergillus aculeatus TD103. Compared to the unfermented control, TD103-fermented A.
