Neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Huntington's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis pose significant challenges for treatment. Reasons for the difficulty in finding cures for these conditions include complications in early diagnosis, progressive and irreversible neuronal damage, and the presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which hinders the delivery of drugs to the affected areas of the brain. Intranasal (INL) drug administration has increasingly gained popularity among researchers for targeting neurological conditions, because of its ability to bypass the BBB.

The presence of nanopollutants in the atmosphere poses significant risks to human health. However, research on their adverse effects on the central nervous system (CNS) remains limited. To address this gap, we constructed an in vitro model utilizing mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) to simulate airborne solid particulates and menthol/curcumol to represent adsorbed liquid microparticles.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) infection induces severe, often fatal, watery diarrhea and vomiting in neonatal piglets, characterized by profound dehydration, villus atrophy, and catastrophic mortality rates approaching 100% in unprotected herds. This study developed a composite probiotic from Min-pig-derived LCM233, LSM231, and LPM239, which exhibited synergistic growth, potent acid/bile salt tolerance, and broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against pathogens. In vitro, the probiotic combination disrupted pathogen ultrastructure and inhibited PEDV replication in IPI-2I cells.

Artesunate (AS) and tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) have been proven to have therapeutic potential in ischemic stroke. Nevertheless, their synergistic treatment mechanisms and effectiveness remain unclear. A rat MCAO model was induced, and AS, combined with TMP, was administered intranasally to rats once a day for 3 days.

Unlabelled: The tight junctions (TJs) between nasal mucosal epithelial cells are a crucial component of the nasal barrier function. Incomplete formation or reduced expression of TJs is a primary contributor to the onset and progression of allergic rhinitis (AR). Therefore, an in-depth investigation into the mechanisms affecting the barrier function of human nasal mucosal epithelial cells (HNEpCs) may facilitate the identification of new therapeutic approaches for AR treatment.
