Great attention has been paid to the long-term decline in terrestrial near-surface wind speed (SWS) in China. However, how the SWS varies with regions and seasons and what modulates these changes remain unclear. Based on quality-controlled and homogenized terrestrial SWS data from 596 stations, the covarying SWS patterns during the Asian Summer Monsoon (ASM) and the Asian Winter Monsoon (AWM) seasons are defined for China using empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis for 1961-2016. The dominant SWS features represented by EOF1 patterns in both seasons show a clear decline over most regions of China. The interannual variability of the EOF1 patterns is closely related to the Northeast Asia Low Pressure (NEALP) and the Arctic Oscillation (AO), respectively. The EOF2 and EOF3 patterns during ASM (AWM) season describe a dipole mode of SWS between East Tibetan Plateau and East China Plain (between East Tibetan Plateau and Northeast China), and between Southeast and Northeast China (between Northeast China and the coastal areas of Southeast China), respectively. These dipole structures of SWS changes are closely linked with the oceanic-atmospheric oscillations on interannual scale.

This study developed a novel self-assembled bigel by combining a chestnut starch (CS) hydrogel with a γ-oryzanol/β-sitosterol (γ-ORY/β-SIT) oleogel. The influence of the hydrogel to oleogel ratio on the macro and micro structures, mechanical properties and thermal stability of the bigels was examined, and its potential as a healthier solid fat substitute was further explored. The results indicated that as the proportion of hydrogel increased (10 %-50 %), all bigels maintained a consistent semi-solid structure without any phase separation.

Sri Lanka is uniquely situated at the junction of the Bay of Bengal (BOB) and the Arabian Sea (AS), where phytoplankton community may be strongly influenced by ocean dynamical processes, particularly mesoscale eddies and the East Indian Coastal Current (EICC). Here, to explore these regulatory mechanisms, phytoplankton and physicochemical parameters were collected from the top 200 m water column in the eastern and southern seas of Sri Lanka during the winter monsoon. Results showed higher concentrations of nutrients and phytoplankton abundance within the regions affected by EICC and cyclonic eddy (CE) compared to anticyclonic eddy (ACE).

Herein, we present a simple and novel method to prepare soybean protein isolate (SPI)-based hydrogels with good mechanical characteristics. First, SPI/DSA hydrogels were prepared using SPI and different M/G ratios (1:2, 1:1, and 2:1) of dialdehyde sodium alginate (DSA). Then, the hydrogels were immersed in CaCl2 solution to form SPI/DSA@Ca double network hydrogels.

This article provides a focused update to the clinical practice guideline on the treatment and management of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), developed by the Infectious Diseases Society of America. The guideline panel presents a recommendation on the use of abatacept in hospitalized adults with severe or critical COVID-19. The recommendation is based on evidence derived from a systematic literature review and adheres to a standardized methodology for rating the certainty of evidence and strength of recommendation according to the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) approach.

Background: Diniconazole (DCZ) is a poorly water-soluble triazole fungicide. However, the water solubility of DCZ can be significantly enhanced by inclusion complexation with cyclodextrins. In order to improve the properties and bioavailability of pesticide fungicides DCZ, a new system of nanofibers was prepared by electrospinning and cyclodextrin encapsulation.
