Objective: This study aims to evaluate the clinical outcomes of Vancouver B1 periprosthetic femoral fractures (PFF) treated with the Ortho-bridge system (OBS) internal fixation and assess the potential benefits of 3D printing technology in preoperative planning and surgical execution for these cases.

Method: This retrospective study analyzed 55 consecutive Vancouver B1 periprosthetic femoral fracture cases treated surgically at Yan'an Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University (2014-2022) with minimum 1-year follow-up. Patients were divided into conventional ORIF (n = 21) and OBS fixation groups (n = 34), with the OBS group further stratified into standard procedure (n = 18) and 3D-printing-assisted (n = 16) subgroups.

Background: Primary liver cancer (PLC) is a global health concern. The plasma dual-target methylation (PDTM) test, which interrogates the methylation status of GNB4 and Riplet, exhibits a commendable ability to discriminate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) from controls. Nevertheless, its performance in detecting PLC in larger populations remains to be validated.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a prevalent and debilitating condition associated with low back pain (LBP). Despite its significant impact, effective diagnostic markers for early-stage IVDD remain elusive. Recent research has implicated ferroptosis, a newly recognized form of programmed cell death, in the pathogenesis of IVDD, particularly involving disturbances in iron homeostasis.

Carbon fiber reinforced plastics inevitably develop defects such as delamination, inclusions, and impacts during manufacturing and usage, which can adversely affect their performance. Ultrasonic phased array inspection is the most effective method for conducting nondestructive testing to ensure their quality. However, the diversity of defects within carbon fiber reinforced plastics makes it challenging for the current ultrasonic phased array inspection techniques to accurately identify these defects.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging viral hemorrhagic fever with a high fatality rate and notable public health impact, caused by a novel phlebovirus, primarily transmitted through infected tick bites. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of co-infections among hospitalized patients with SFTS, characterize isolated pathogens, and evaluate demographics, clinical features, and laboratory variations to identify potential risk factors for co-infections. In a cohort of 78 SFTS patients categorized into co-infection and non-co-infection groups, 44.

Article Synopsis
  • Population mobility plays a crucial role in the spread of infectious diseases, affecting public health and sustainable development globally.
  • The study analyzed data from China between 2013 and 2019, discovering that intestinal diseases had the highest incidence, while sexually transmitted diseases had the highest mortality rate.
  • A strong correlation was found between passenger traffic (commercial and public) and various infectious diseases, highlighting transportation's impact on disease prevalence.

Purpose: To quantitatively measure and compare whole-brain iron deposition between OSA patients and a healthy control group, we initially utilized QSM and evaluated its correlation with PSG results and cognitive function.

Materials And Methods: A total of 28 OSA patients and 22 healthy control subjects matched in age, education level, and BMI were enrolled in our study. Each participant underwent scanning with 3D T1 and multi-echo GRE sequences.

Background: Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT) is a common cause of male infertility, of which the causes remain largely unknown. Recently, BCORL1 was identified as a contributor to male infertility from non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) to OAT.

Objectives: To identify novel and hotspot variants in BCORL1 from infertile men with OAT and reveal their outcomes of assisted reproductive treatments (ARTs).

Purpose: Liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) is the most common type of liver cancer, but there is a lack of effective indicators for its early diagnosis and prognosis, so we explored the role of KEAP1 in LIHC patients in this study.

Methods: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset was used to investigate the relationship between KEAP1 expression and clinicopathological features and prognosis of LIHC patients. KEAP1 expression related pathways were enriched by Gene Ontology (GO) and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA).

During the ultrasound multi-layer focused scanning inspection process, the sequential images characterizing the defect morphology suffer from inter-layer contour information loss, which causes a reduction in the accuracy of defect 3D reconstruction, subsequently leading to errors in the characterization of the defect size and morphology. In order to address the above issues, a new method based on the Attention-based Residual Completion Network (ARC) is proposed for ultrasonic point cloud completion to characterize metal defects. Firstly, the ARC network extracts global contour morphological features and local edge detail features from the ultrasonic point cloud through consecutive residual convolutions.

Article Synopsis
  • Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is linked to cognitive issues and physical health problems, prompting a study to explore how glymphatic system function and brain network efficiency relate to cognitive impairment in OSAHS patients.* -
  • The study analyzed 31 OSAHS patients and 34 healthy controls using advanced imaging techniques, finding that OSAHS patients had lower glymphatic system function (ALPS-index) and identified correlations between this function, cognitive performance, and brain network efficacy.* -
  • Results showed that global brain efficiency partially mediates the cognitive impairment associated with glymphatic dysfunction in OSAHS, with the study suggesting a strong potential for using the ALPS-index as a diagnostic

Chisel pick is a basic and important rock cutting tool, and the performance of chisel pick directly affects rock mining. In this paper, a rock cutting device was developed for chisel picks cutting experiments. The influence of the depth of cutting, width of chisel pick, rake angle, back clearance angle and tip fillet radius on the cutting performance such as cutting force, normal force, and specific energy has been comprehensively studied.

The path-following problem of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) is solved in this paper, considering unknown interference, energy-saving strategy, input constraints, and input rate of change constraints. Firstly, the USV model considering lumped interference is given, while an interference observer based on finite-time theory is used for interference estimation where the convergence time is specified. Then, to accelerate the USV convergence to a given path, a novel improved adaptive finite-time line-of-sight (IAFTLOS) scheme is developed.

Previous studies reported the association between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC), but its infection pattern and clinical significance unclear. This study aimed to comprehensively investigate the infection pattern, clinicopathology, outcomes, and immunology of this entity in central China. We evaluated a total of 104 untreated CSCC tumor tissue specimens using in situ hybridization for EBV-encoded small RNAs (EBERs), and by employing flowcytometry fluorescence hybridization for human papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping.
