Background: The widely used International Study of Kidney Disease in Children (ISKDC) classification for Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis (HSPN) does not completely correlate with the clinical presentation and long-term prognosis of this disease. Primary IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and HSPN share common features; thus, the Oxford classification of IgAN might be useful in predicting the long-term outcomes of HSPN. However, its value has not been confirmed in children with HSPN.

The main roles of equilibrative nucleoside transporters (ENTs) and concentrative nucleoside transporters (CNTs) are to transfer single nucleosides and analogues for the nucleic acid salvage pathway. Oligodeoxyribonucleotides (ODNs) can be transported into the cytoplasm or nucleus of cells under certain conditions. Among ODNs composed of a single type of nucleotide, the transport efficiency differs with the length and nucleotide composition of the ODNs and varies in different types of leukaemia cells; among the 5 tested random sequence ODNs and 3 aptamers with varying sequences, the data showed that some sequences were associated with significantly higher transport efficiency than others.

Bisoprolol (B) exerts potential cardioprotective effects against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Unfolded protein response (UPR) attenuates I/R injury induced apoptosis by reducing oxidative damage and inflammation response. The current study investigated whether the protective effects of bisoprolol resulted from modulating UPR and anti-inflammatory during myocardial I/R condition and elucidated its potential mechanisms.

To design an alternative workflow for cancer-risk assessment to predict distant metastasis (DM) of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). We enrolled 234 patients with non-disseminated NPC and a family history of cancer who underwent intensity-modulated radiotherapy and concurrent chemo-radiotherapy with/without induction chemotherapy in our primary cohort. We conducted univariate and multivariate analyses of the associated prognostic factors, built a nomogram model for distant-metastasis-free survival (DMFS), and confirmed the prognostic value of weight-loss ratio (WTratio).

The unfolded protein response (UPR) plays a critical role in cell death mediated by ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. However, little is known about the exact mechanism of UPR signaling pathways after myocardial I/R injury in rats. An attempt was therefore made to assess whether the myocardial I/R induced UPR, and which branch of UPR (ATF6, IRE1 and PERK) signal pathway was activated.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a class of non-protein coding transcripts exceeding 200 nucleotides in length. Accumulating evidence achieved by several sophisticated techniques such as chromatin conformation capture and RNA-seq has led to new questions concerning correlations between lncRNAs and chromatin structures. Many studies have revealed that lncRNAs exert great influences on gene expression through regulating chromatin 3D structures.

A new two-dimensional (2D) carbon crystal, different from graphene, has been prepared from 1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene, consisting of 4-carbon and 6-carbon rings in 1:1 ratio, named 4-6 carbophene by authors, in which all carbon atoms possess sp hybrid orbitals with some distortion, forming an extensive conjugated π-bonding planar structure. The angles between the three σ-bonds of the carbon sp orbitals are roughly 120°, 90°, and 150°. Each of the three non-adjacent sides of a 6C-ring is shared with a 4C-ring; and each of the two opposite sides of a 4C-ring is shared with a 6C-ring.

Known susceptibility loci together can only explain about 6-8% of the disease heritability of IgA nephropathy (IgAN), suggesting that there are still a large number of genetic variants remained to be discovered. We previously identified IgAN and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)/lupus nephritis (LN) shared many loci based on GWAS on Chinese populations. The more recent study with high-density genotyping of immune-related loci in individuals with Asian ancestry identified 10 new and 6 suggestive loci in SLE.
