Background: Recent research suggests that focusing on specific symptoms, rather than general levels of impairment, may offer a more nuanced understanding of psychopathology. Given the unique social and psychological challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, this study aims to explore the relationships between the three dimensions of perceived social support family support, friend support, and other support-and individual anxiety symptoms among college students. The pandemic context provides an opportunity to examine how different forms of social support may influence specific anxiety symptoms in a time of heightened stress and restricted social interactions.

The genetic diversity and populational specificity of the human gut virome at single-nucleotide resolution.

Background: Large-scale characterization of gut viral genomes provides strain-resolved insights into host-microbe interactions. However, existing viral genomes are mainly derived from Western populations, limiting our understanding of global gut viral diversity and functional variations necessary for personalized medicine and addressing regional health disparities.

Results: Here, we introduce the Chinese Gut Viral Reference (CGVR) set, consisting of 120,568 viral genomes from 3234 deeply sequenced fecal samples collected nationwide, covering 72,751 viral operational taxonomic units (vOTUs), nearly 90% of which are likely absent from current databases.

The aim of this study is to explore the finer-grained potential relationships between psychological resilience, anxiety, and depression among college students.

Here, we further demonstrated that within the tumor microenvironment of PDAC, nociceptor neurons interacted with cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) through calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and nerve growth factor (NGF).

Understanding these relationships is crucial for enhancing psychological interventions and improving academic performance in the digital age.

Network analysis of the association between social anxiety and problematic smartphone use in college students.

Background: Social anxiety (SA) and problematic smartphone use (PSU) have become increasingly common among college students in recent decades, with research indicating a mutual increase in risk. This study aim to deepen the understanding of how SA and PSU are interconnected at the symptom-level within this demographic using network analysis.

The gut microbiome displays genetic differences among populations, and characterization of the genomic landscape of the gut microbiome in China remains limited. Here, we present the Chinese Gut Microbial Reference (CGMR) set, comprising 101,060 high-quality metagenomic assembled genomes (MAGs) of 3,707 nonredundant species from 3,234 fecal samples across primarily rural Chinese locations, 1,376 live isolates mainly from lactic acid bacteria, and 987 novel species relative to worldwide databases. We observed region-specific coexisting MAGs and MAGs with probiotic and cardiometabolic functionalities.

Affective norms for 501 Chinese words from three emotional dimensions rated by depressive disorder patients.

Introduction: Emotional words are often used as stimulus material to explore the cognitive and emotional characteristics of individuals with depressive disorder, while normal individuals mostly rate the scores of affective words. Given that individuals with depressive disorder exhibit a negative cognitive bias, it is possible that their depressive state could influence the ratings of affective words. To enhance the validity of the stimulus material, we specifically recruited patients with depression to provide these ratings.

Temporal colonization and metabolic regulation of the gut microbiome in neonatal oxen at single nucleotide resolution.

The colonization of microbes in the gut is key to establishing a healthy host-microbiome symbiosis for newborns. We longitudinally profiled the gut microbiome in a model consisting of 36 neonatal oxen from birth up to 2 months postpartum and carried out microbial transplantation to reshape their gut microbiome. Genomic reconstruction of deeply sequenced fecal samples resulted in a total of 3931 metagenomic-assembled genomes from 472 representative species, of which 184 were identified as new species when compared with existing databases of oxen.

Tumor-derived interleukin 35 mediates the dissemination of gemcitabine resistance in pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Rapid development of drug resistance after chemotherapy is a major cause of treatment failure in individuals with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). In this study, we illustrate that tumor-derived interleukin 35 (IL-35) mediates the accelerated resistance of PDAC to gemcitabine (GEM). We observe that GEM resistance can spread from GEM-resistant PDAC cells to GEM-sensitive cells, and that IL-35 is responsible for the propagation of chemoresistance, which is supported by sequencing and experimental data.

Positive coping styles can assist in maintaining their mental and behavioral well-being, whereas negative coping styles cannot. The effects of object size on spatial orientation: an eye movement study.

Introduction: The processing of visual information in the human brain is divided into two streams, namely, the dorsal and ventral streams, object identification is related to the ventral stream and motion processing is related to the dorsal stream. Object identification is interconnected with motion processing, object size was found to affect the information processing of motion characteristics in uniform linear motion. However, whether the object size affects the spatial orientation is still unknown.

Comparison of adjuvant nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine, S-1 and gemcitabine chemotherapy for resectable pancreatic cancer: a real-world study.

Background: A survival benefit has been seen for both adjuvant nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine (AG) and S-1 chemotherapy compared to gemcitabine (GEM) for resectable pancreatic cancer in the APACT (2019) and JASPAC01 trials (2016), respectively. However, supporting evidence regarding the effectiveness of AG or S-1 compared to gemcitabine in real-world clinical practice remains lacking.

Methods: Our study included all 246 pancreatic cancer patients who underwent surgical treatment and received postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy with AG, S-1, or GEM except for those meeting exclusion criteria (R2 resection, neoadjuvant therapy, or synchronous malignancy) at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital from June 2015 to July 2021.
