Wastewater surveillance is a critical tool in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, yet traditional centralized methods are unsustainable due to their high costs and complex implementation requirements. Here, we introduce Wastewater Analysis and Tracking for Epidemiological Recognition: Necessary Early Warning System (WATER NEWS)-a field clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats-diagnostic approach designed for robust and cost-effective pathogen detection in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). WATER NEWS combined a one-pot assay, an optimized reporter probe, on-site nucleic acid extraction, an improved freeze-drying process and a user-friendly, low-cost, battery-operated device, thereby overcoming the limitations of field-deployable wastewater surveillance.

Introduction: MYH9-related disease (MYH9-RD) is a rare autosomal dominant genetic syndrome characterized by congenital thrombocytopenia, with a risk of developing progressive nephropathy, sensorineural deafness, and presenile cataract. Due to its presentation of isolated thrombocytopenia, it is frequently misdiagnosed as immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).

Environmental penalties (EP), environmental protection taxes (ET), and environmental subsidies (ES) are key components of China's environmental regulatory framework, yet their combined and individual effects on corporate green innovation (CGI) remain poorly understood. This study investigates the direct and interactive effects of these policy instruments using panel data from A-share listed firms between 2008 and 2021. We find that: (1) ET and ES significantly stimulate both substantive and strategic green innovation, while EP has a counterproductive effect on substantive innovation; (2) EP exacerbates corporate financing constraints, ET promotes environmental investments, and ES strengthens internal green governance practices, each influencing innovation outcomes differently; (3) There is a substitution effect between EP and ET, while no significant interaction is observed between other policy pairs; (4) Heterogeneity tests show that technology-intensive firms are more responsive to ET and ES, while non-technology-intensive firms are more sensitive to EP.

Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent among diabetic populations, and accumulating evidence indicates its potential involvement in the pathogenesis and prognosis of DFUs. This review comprehensively explores the diverse roles of vitamin D in DFUs, encompassing its molecular mechanisms such as immunomodulation, promotion of angiogenesis, neuroprotection, and induction of antimicrobial peptides, as well as the metabolic characteristics associated with various vitamin D forms and compromised vitamin D receptor (VDR) signaling pathways.

Fumonisin B1 (FB1) is an environmental mycotoxin produced mainly by fungi of the genus Fusarium. Exposure to FB1 can lead to pulmonary edema in pigs, likely caused by damage to vascular endothelial cells, but the mechanism of FB1-induced damage was unknown. Here, we found that FB1 damages vascular endothelial cells through ferroptosis, marked by iron-dependent membrane lipid peroxidation, and through mitophagy, a selective autophagy that targets mitochondria.

To investigate the hangfire failure mechanism in firearm firing-ignition systems, gas pressure responses were experimentally analyzed using a firing-ignition simulation test device. Pressure characteristic parameters were statistically evaluated using the "3σ" criterion to establish the hangfire failure thresholds. Proteasome is an essential organelle responsible for maintaining cellular protein homeostasis, but its relationship with DNA methylation remains unknown. In this study, we assessed DNA methylation of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells following treatment with proteasome inhibitors, and investigated the underlying mechanism of DNA methylation changes and the biological effects on CRC cells. We established that inhibition of proteasome leads to significant alterations in DNA methylation profile in CRC by suppressing the synthesis of DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs).

Sorafenib, a first-line targeted drug for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), has limited clinical application due to intrinsic/acquired resistance. In this study, we have identified the RNA-binding protein RBMS3 as a pivotal regulator involved in sorafenib resistance among patients with HCC. Loss- and gain-of-function experiments further demonstrate that downregulation of RBMS3 promotes angiogenesis and confers resistance to sorafenib by augmenting the capacity of HCC cells to express and secrete ANGPT2, while upregulation of RBMS3 reverse these phenotypes.

Here, we report a universal one-pot fluorescent method for the detection of epidemic pathogens, delivering results within 15-20 min. This method uses heparin sodium to precisely tunes the cis-cleavage capability of Cas12 via interference with the Cas12a-crRNA binding process, thereby generating significant fluorescence due to the accumulation of isothermal amplification products.
