Background: In 2023, the American Heart Association published the Predicting Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Events (PREVENT) equations for estimating atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk in adults aged 30 to 79 years. We compared PREVENT's performance with existing US guideline recommended models-Pooled Cohort Equations for 10-year ASCVD risk and FHS (Framingham Heart Study) equations for 30-year ASCVD risk-among young adults.
Methods: We analyzed adults aged 20 to 39 years without baseline ASCVD from 2 sources: (1) pooled data from 2 large epidemiologic cohorts (CARDIA [Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults] and FHS, n=7763), and (2) electronic health records from Kaiser Permanente Southern California (n=266 378).
Ten cyclopeptides were isolated from the 70 % ethanol extract of Lycii Cortex and identified by physical and chemical properties and various spectroscopic methods. They were named as lyciumin E (1), lyciumin G (2), lyciumin F (3), lyciumin B methyl ester (4), lyciumin A methyl ester (5), lyciumin C methyl ester (6), lyciumin A (7), lyciumin B (8), lyciumin C (9) and lyciumin D (10). Among them, compounds 1-3 were new cyclopeptides, compound 4 was a new natural product, and compounds 5 and 6 were first isolated from this plant.

This paper presents the design and control of a quadruped robot equipped with a six-degree-of-freedom (6-) bionic active torso based on a parallel mechanism. Inspired by the compliant and flexible torsos of quadrupedal mammals, the proposed torso structure enhances locomotion performance by enabling coordinated motion between the torso and legs. A complete kinematic model of the bionic torso and the whole body of the quadruped robot is developed.

Importance: It is unclear whether the effects of intensive vs standard blood pressure (BP) targets seen in clinical trials generalize to patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) encountered in everyday practice due to differences in the distribution of cardiovascular risk factors and coexisting conditions.
Objective: To evaluate whether the beneficial and adverse effects of intensive vs standard BP control observed in the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) are transportable to a target population of adults with CKD in clinical practice.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This comparative effectiveness study identified 2 populations with CKD who met the eligibility criteria for SPRINT between January 1 and December 31, 2019, in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and Kaiser Permanente of Southern California (KPSC).
Background: The Pooled Cohort Equations (PCEs) do not accurately estimate atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk in certain populations. The 2018 AHA/ACC cholesterol guideline identified risk-enhancing factors as a supplement to PCEs-based risk assessment. However, the role of each risk-enhancing factor in ASCVD risk assessment has not been well quantified.

Studies have shown that host intestinal microorganisms play a role in the immune regulation of parenteral tumors in a number of different ways, either directly or indirectly. However, the potential impact of gut microbiota on tumor microenvironment, particularly glioma immunological milieu, has not been clarified exactly.

Context: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) has initially been implicated in adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes, while subsequent population studies have failed to show an association.
Objective: This work aimed to compare maternal, pregnancy, and neonatal outcomes in patients with and without PHPT.
Methods: A retrospective matched-cohort study (2005-2020) was conducted at an integrated health-care delivery system in Southern California.
Background: Little is known about how well trial participants with chronic kidney disease (CKD) represent real-world adults with CKD. We assessed the population representativeness of clinical trials supporting the 2021 Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes blood pressure (BP) guidelines in real-world adults with CKD.
Methods And Results: Using a cross-sectional analysis, we identified patients with CKD who met the guideline definition of hypertension based on use of antihypertensive medications or sustained systolic BP ≥120 mm Hg in 2019 in the Veterans Affairs and Kaiser Permanente of Southern California.

However, it is still unclear whether gut microbiota dysbiosis affect the progression of breast cancer, especially triple-negative breast cancer. In the present study, by using gut microbiota dysbiosis murine model established by treatment of mice with streptomycin, we found Lactobacillus and the metabolite-lactic acid are the pivotal factors for 4T1 tumor progression.

Facing the global water shortage challenge, solar-driven desalination is considered a sustainable technology to obtain freshwater from seawater. However, the trade-off between the salt cycle and heat localization of existing solar evaporators (SE) hinders its further practical applications. Here, inspired by water hyacinth, a self-standing and self-floating 3D SE with adiabatic foam particles and aligned water channels is built through a continuous directional freeze-casting technique.

Fabrication of multifunctional porous fibers with excellent mechanical properties has attracted abundant attention in the fields of personal thermal management textiles and smart wearable devices. However, the high cost and harsh preparation environment of the traditional solution-solvent phase separation method for making porous fibers aggravates the problems of resource consumption and environmental pollution. Herein, a microextrusion process that combines environmentally friendly CO physical foaming with fused deposition modeling technology is proposed, via the dual features of high gas uptake and restricted cell growth, to implement the continuous production of porous polyetheretherketone (PEEK) fibers with a production efficiency of 10.
