Background: Partial hepatectomy remains a primary therapeutic intervention for various hepatic diseases. However, several intraoperative factors, including surgical manipulation, substantial blood loss, the need for blood transfusions, and hypoxic stress, can significantly impair liver function. Current perioperative strategies aimed at protecting the liver exhibit certain limitations.

The prevalence of obesity has tripled since 1975, especially in the elderly population. Accumulating preclinical and clinical studies have confirmed that chronic low-grade inflammation of adipose tissues is mechanistically related to metabolic diseases and tissue complications in overweight and obesity patients, as a result of the intricate interplay of various pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory signaling cascades.

SS7 positively regulates seed storability by enhancing the activity of peroxidase and nitrate reductase (NR) in seeds, resulting in the reduction of ROS and NO accumulation during seed storage. Long-term storage of crop seeds is essential for conserving germplasm resources, ensuring food security, and supporting sustainable agriculture.

While ROP GTPase activation has been reported during plant immune responses, the mechanisms underlying the dynamic deactivation of ROP GTPases remain unclear. In this study, we identified the autophagy kinase OsATG1 as a key regulator that interacts with and phosphorylates SPIN6, a plant-specific ROP GTPase-activating protein (RhoGAP), which in turn deactivates the ROP GTPase OsRac1.

However, the long-term metabolic adjustments of corals under chronic macroalgal competition remain poorly understood, particularly regarding the integration of physiological changes with metabolic responses resilience mechanisms. This study conducted a 21-day experiment to investigate the physiological and metabolomic response between coral Porites cylindrica and macroalgae Hypnea pannosa.

Studies have shown that hypomethylation of tumour necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK)/fibroblast growth factor-inducible 14 (Fn14) is associated with sarcopenia. Our research primarily explores whether this mechanism also affects the progression of sarcopenic obesity.

Rice blast, caused by the hemibiotrophic filamentous ascomycete fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, seriously limits rice production. Since the pioneering genetic studies in 1922, substantial advancements have been made in understanding the genetic basis of rice-M. oryzae interaction via the advanced molecular genetics studies.

Methods: We analyzed baseline data from an ongoing cohort study of 1056 BPPV patients in Northwest China. Vertigo severity was assessed using the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), sleep quality was measured with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and psychological states were evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS).
Background: Hypertension (HTN) predisposes individuals to arterial stiffness (AS) and dysfunction of the left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV). AS, characterized by increased pulse wave velocity (PWV) may impair LA phasic function. This study investigates the associations of brachial-ankle PWV and the left atrioventricular coupling index (LACI) as well as LA phasic function in hypertensive patients, and to evaluate the predictive value for LA dysfunction.

The cycling of iron (Fe) and sulfur (S) in peatland ecosystems plays a pivotal role in modulating methylmercury (MeHg) formation. This study integrates data on Fe and S fractions, geochemical factors, microbial communities, and statistical modeling to propose the novel "Fe-S wheel" conceptual framework. This framework explores the coupled cycling of Fe, S, and Hg in the Dajiuhu peatland (DJH), an exemplary natural laboratory in central China.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex neurodegenerative disease, which is often treated with obvious side effects such as dopamine replacement therapy. Our team has validated the unique advantages of the traditional Chinese medicine formula, YiQiWenYangSanHan formula (YQWYSHF), through in vitro experiments, confirming its therapeutic potential for PD. Nevertheless, further research and validation are required to fully understand its protective effects and underlying mechanisms against PD.

Apple snails (), one of the 100 most serious invasive species in the world, have invaded mangrove wetlands due to their salinity tolerance. We firstly prepared a plant molluscicide against apple snails based on the mangrove in coastal wetland. The effects of four mangrove extracts from , including ethanol extract (EE), petroleum ether extract (PEE), ethyl acetate extract (EAE), and n-butanol extract (BE), were studied for molluscicidal activity against apple snails in a saline environment.

Background: In the context of global warming, the frequency of heat wave and the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM) have increased, and more people are co-exposed to air pollution and extreme heat. However, the interaction between heat wave and PM on cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality remained largely unknown.
Methods: We conducted a time-stratified case-crossover study of 40,169 CVD deaths in Shenzhen, China between 2013 and 2022.

To analyze the common clinical indicators of systemic sclerosis (SSc) complicated with severe interstitial lung disease (ILD) patients based on the grading of lung high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) and to explore the risk factors of severe (ILD).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 72 newly diagnosed and treated SSc-ILD patients in the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from June 2013 to August 2023.
The classification of remote sensing images is inherently challenging due to the complexity, diversity, and sparsity of the data across different image samples. Existing advanced methods often require substantial modifications to model architectures to achieve optimal performance, resulting in complex frameworks that are difficult to adapt. To overcome these limitations, we propose a lightweight ensemble method, enhanced by pure data correction, called the Exceptionally Straightforward Ensemble.

Chemical synthesis of phosphoromonothioate oligonucleotides (PS-ONs) is not stereo-specific and produces a mixture of Rp and Sp diastereomers, whose disparate reactivity can complicate applications. Although the current methods to separate these diastereomers which rely on chromatography are constantly improving, many Rp and Sp diastereomers are still co-eluted. Here, based on sulfur-binding domains that specifically recognize phosphorothioated DNA and RNA in Rp configuration, we developed a universal separation system for phosphorothioate oligonucleotide isomers using immobilized SBD (SPOIS).

Plants NADP-malic enzymes (NADP-MEs) act as a class of oxidative decarboxylase to mediate malic acid metabolism in organisms. Despite NADP-MEs have been demonstrated to play pivotal roles in regulating diverse biological processes, the role of NADP-MEs involving in plant growth and development remains rarely known. Here, we characterized the function of rice cytosolic OsNADP-ME2 in regulating plant height.
