Background: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a common complication after esophagectomy and is associated with adverse outcomes. This study investigated whether preoperative stellate ganglion block (SGB) could reduce the incidence of POAF and improve postoperative recovery.
Methods: In this single-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 100 patients undergoing esophagectomy were randomly assigned to receive ultrasound-guided right-sided SGB with 7 mL of either 0.

Background: Cellular senescence plays a significant role in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. Substantial evidence indicates that senescence occurs in cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), the predominant stromal component within the tumor microenvironment (TME), which profoundly impacts tumor biology. However, despite growing evidence of stromal cell involvement in cancer progression, the specific mechanisms and clinical implications of senescent CAFs (SCAFs) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have not been fully elucidated.

Methods: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Y126S, a recombinant IgG1/IgG2 hybrid bispecific antibody (BsAb), in reshaping the immunotherapy-resistant TME in PDAC. Orthotopic PDAC and KPC (Kras; Trp53; Pdx1-Cre) mouse models were established and treated with Y126S, α-connective tissue growth factor (CTGF), α-PD-1, or a combination of α-CTGF and α-PD-1.
Constant inflammation can be a detrimental response in bone regeneration. To regulate of the inflammatory response and synchronically promote rapid tissue regeneration is a vital clinical challenge. The urinary bladder matrix (UBM) and small intestinal submucosa (SIS) composite are commonly used extracellular matrix (ECM) materials.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is characterized by cancer cells surrounded by affluent stromal components, which may underlie their limited response to various therapeutic interventions, including immunotherapy. Inflammatory cancer-associated fibroblasts (iCAFs), a crucial subset of CAFs within the PDAC microenvironment, play a pivotal role in shaping an immunosuppressive microenvironment. In this study, single-cell RNA sequencing analysis is performed to screen for cancer cells-secreted proteins associated with iCAF induction, and PPY (pancreatic polypeptide) is validated as a potent inducer.

The Chinese government has made active efforts to guide pharmaceutical enterprises to make appropriate social contribution during the public health emergency. This study explores how government-enterprise relationship promotes this process.

Methods: A systematic search of 5 electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Embase) was conducted from inception until April 25, 2024. A total of 1213 studies were identified, of which randomized controlled trials involving subjects with MetS-related factors, comparing dietary anthocyanin supplementation with placebo, and reporting results on anthropometric, physiological, and metabolic markers relevant to this study were selected.

To evaluate the drug release, cytocompatibility with periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs), and therapeutic efficacy of GelMA hydrogel loaded with resolvin D1 (RvD1) in treating rat periodontal inflammation and alveolar bone damage. An RvD1 complexed with GelMA was prepared, and its release kinetics and compatibility with PDLCs were assessed. Rats with induced periodontitis were treated weekly with topical applications of vehicle, GelMA, RvD1, or RvD1 complexed with GelMA for four weeks.

Cellular senescence is a state of cell-cycle arrest characterized by a pro-inflammatory phenotype. The potential impact of CAF senescence on tumor progression and the tumor microenvironment (TME) remains to be elucidated.

Transauricular vagus nerve stimulation (ta-VNS) modulates the autonomic nervous system by stimulating the nucleus tractus solitarius while affecting PTSD-related neural networks, including the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus and amygdala, potentially offering new options for PTSD prevention and treatment. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ta-VNS in preventing PTSD in emergency trauma surgery patients.

The potential impact of NOD on PAAD progression and the tumor microenvironment remains unclear. Here, we revealed that NOD in PAAD was associated with metabolic disorders.

However, the high cost of experimental validation limits its identification. In contrast, computation-based approaches are both economical and efficient.

Although the role of amygdalar circuits in aversive processing is well established, the neural pathway for amplifying aversion remains elusive. Here, we show that the brainstem circuit linking the interpeduncular nucleus (IPN) with the nucleus incertus (NI) amplifies aversion and promotes avoidant behaviors.

Heat stress is the most critical factor affecting animal feeding in summer. This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of heat stress on the feeding preference of yellow-feathered broilers and its possible mechanism. As a result, the preference of yellow-feathered broilers for Tenebrio molitor was significantly decreased, and the fear response and serum corticosterone of broilers were significantly increased when the ambient temperatures are 35 °C (P < 0.

Xanthates, common mining flotation reagents, strongly bind thiophilic metals such as copper (Cu), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and zinc (Zn) and consequentially change their bioavailability and mobility upon their discharge into the environment. However, accurate quantification of the metal-xanthate complexes has remained elusive. This study develops a novel and robust method that realizes the accurate quantification of the metal-xanthate complexes resulted from single and multiple reactions of three typical xanthates (ethyl, isopropyl, and butyl xanthates) and four thiophilic metals (Cu, Pb, Cd, and Zn) in water samples.

The toxicity of amyloid to neuronal cell surfaces arises from interactions between small intermediate aggregates, namely amyloid oligomers, and the cell membrane. The nature of these interactions changes with age and disease progression.

To investigate the mechanism of PDAC liver metastasis, we found that PDAC cells can promote the formation of pre-metastatic niches (PMNs) through exosomes to facilitate liver metastasis in the early stage. In our study, hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) were treated with PDAC-derived exosomes (PDAC-exo), and the activation of HSCs was detected.

Introduction: Soil microorganisms are an important component of soil ecosystems with an indispensable role in forest ecosystems. We analyzed the soil microbial diversity in birch secondary forest formed by natural restoration or artificial reconstruction after interference by burning, clear cutting, and gradient cutting, and the undisturbed forest in the Greater Khingan Mountains in China.
Methods: Illumina high-throughput sequencing technology was used to analyze the characteristics of the soil microbial community during the restoration process of birch secondary forest caused by the different types of interference.
Single therapeutic interventions have not yet been successful in restoring function after spinal cord injury. Accordingly, combinatorial interventions targeting multiple factors may hold greater promise for achieving maximal functional recovery. In this study, we applied a combinatorial approach of chronic chemogenetic neuronal activation and physical exercise including treadmill running and forelimb training tasks to promote functional recovery.
