Background: No studies have explored the genetic differences between the Chinese and other ethnic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) populations.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included Chinese patients ( = 593) with HCM and controls ( = 491) who underwent whole-exome sequencing. Rare variants in 16 validated HCM genes were assessed and compared with a United Kingdom HCM cohort ( = 1 232) and controls ( = 344 745).

In this study, manganese-containing DNA nanoflowers (DHA-DDF) loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) were functionalized with an AS1411 aptamer and a hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) antisense sequence.

Synthesis of Perovskite Nanowires and Their Application for Photodetectors.

1D nanowires (broadly including microwires and quantum wires) of metal halide perovskites exhibit several unique properties due to their distinctive morphology, such as enhanced responsivity under weak light, mechanical flexibility, and optical anisotropy. These perovskite nanowires can be readily fabricated into lateral devices as photoconductive photodetectors. Herein, the synthesis of perovskite nanowires and their applications for photodetectors are primarily focused on, providing an overview of the major synthesis strategies for perovskite nanowires (and arrays) since their initial reports, and analyzing how structural design and modification strategies can improve the performance of nanowire-based devices.

Drug repurposing in traditional Chinese medicine: from empirical wisdom to modern therapeutic strategies.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), with its multi-component and multi-target nature, offers rich potential for drug repurposing. Advances in systems biology, computational modeling, and high-throughput technologies have enabled systematic analysis of TCM mechanisms, facilitating in the identification of active ingredients, target interactions, and synergistic effects. However, most existing reviews focus on individual methods rather than providing an integrative translational strategy tailored to the complexity of TCM.

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles drive the enhanced pro-inflammation response, worsening oxidative injure and gut microbiota dysbiosis in experimental colitis mice.

With the wide use of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO NPs) in food products, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) was inevitably to ingest it. In this work, we daily administered TiO NPs to mice, followed by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-drinking for 7 days to obtain the colitis model. Excitedly, shorten colon length, earlier and increased weigh body loss, higher disease activity index score, as well as disorganized pathological structure were observed in colitis mice with TiO NPs exposure.

Cardiac Phenotype Characterization at MRI in ALPK3 Associated Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

Background: Alpha-protein kinase 3 (ALPK3) was recently identified as a candidate gene associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). However, clinical data regarding carriers of ALPK3 variants are limited.

Objectives: To evaluate the prevalence of heterozygous ALPK3 variants in adult patients with HCM through whole-exome sequencing, and to elucidate the phenotypes of individuals harboring these variants.

A 54-Year-Old Woman With Recurrent Exertional Dyspnea After Surgical Repair for Atrial Septal Defect.

A 54-year-old woman with a history of recurrent exertional dyspnea for 5 years was admitted for evaluation. Six months prior, she noted a worsening of her symptoms, with progressive physical activity limitation caused by exertional fatigue and dyspnea (climbing 2 to 3 flights of stairs). She also experienced palpitations, with an estimated heart rate that ranged from 120 to 150 beats per minute.

Background: Although the overall survival of pulmonary hypertension (PH) patients improved in the current era, better management strategy for PH patients still needs further exploration.

Objectives: Here, we proposed a novel nurse-led, multidisciplinary, and guideline-directed disease intensive management program and hypothesized this strategy would improve the overall survival of PH patients.

Methods: Patients were prospectively enrolled and divided into the intensive management group (IDM) and the conventional disease care (CDC) group voluntarily.

Evaluation of free-breathing, non-ECG-triggered magnetic resonance T1 mapping derived from multitasking imaging at 3.0 T in patients with ischaemic and non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy.

Objective: To evaluate the image quality of the free-breathing, non-ECG-multitasking T1 mapping and to compare T1 values, lesion area, and ROC curve with those derived from the traditional MOLLI sequence in ischaemic and non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy.

Methods: In vitro, T1 values from CMR multitasking and MOLLI images were compared in 4 phantoms. In vivo studies included 108 patients (38 ischaemic cardiomyopathy, 70 non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy) and 31 healthy volunteers.

Effect of obesity on myocardial tissue characteristics in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: a cardiovascular magnetic resonance-based study.

Background: Obesity is associated with cardiac steatosis in healthy adults and is independently associated with increased left ventricular (LV) mass and could contribute to the progression of heart failure-related composite events in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). However, it is unclear whether the increased LV mass is accompanied by increased fibrosis. We aimed to assess the impact of increased body mass index (BMI) on myocardial tissue characteristics in patients with HCM.

Effects of reheat treatment on warmed-over flavor and lipid oxidation in bowl-steamed Tan lamb.

The warmed-over flavor (WOF) can significantly impair the flavor quality of prepared foods, leading to reduced consumer acceptance. This study investigates the molecular composition of WOF and the alterations in lipid molecules during the heating-cooling-reheating process of bowl-steamed Tan lamb, employing a comprehensive analytical approach. By integrating GC-MS and GC-IMS analyses, 11 WOF-related compounds were identified, including furan, 2-pentyl-, and 2-pentanone.

Enabling Low-Temperature Zinc-Bromine Microbatteries with an Additive-Free Electrolyte Design.

Aqueous zinc-bromine microbatteries (Zn-Br MBs) are promising energy storage devices for miniaturized electronic applications. However, their performance in low-temperature environments remains a challenge due to poor compatibility between antifreeze agents and complexing agents. In this work, we propose an additive-free electrolyte design to address this incompatibility from the source.

Aims: This study aims to assess the relationship between body mass index (BMI), subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), visceral adipose tissue (VAT), epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), pericardial adipose tissue (PAT), and clinical outcomes in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) patients.

Methods And Results: Non-ischaemic DCM patients were prospectively enrolled. Regional adipose tissue, cardiac function, and myocardial tissue characteristics were measured by cardiac magnetic resonance.

Capillary condensation-driven growth of perovskite nanowire arrays for multi-functional photodetector.

Metal-halide perovskite nanowire array photodetectors based on the solution method are valuable in the field of polarized light detection because of their unique one-dimensional array structure and excellent photoelectric performance. However, the limited wettability of liquids poses challenges for achieving large-scale and high-quality perovskite nanowire arrays. To address this issue, we develop a facile method utilizing capillary condensation to grow high-quality centimeter-scale perovskite nanowire arrays.

To address these issues, this study fabricated a composite nanoparticle loaded with catalase (CAT) and levofloxacin (LEV) (CAT@LEV-NPs) and then combined it with ultrasound (US) to investigate the bactericidal effect and underlying mechanisms using TB spheroids.

Predictive Model Based on Texture Analysis of Noncontrast Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Images for the Prognostic Evaluation of Cardiac Amyloidosis.

Objectives: We aimed to develop a predictive model based on textural features of noncontrast cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging for risk stratification toward adverse events in patients with cardiac amyloidosis (CA).

Methods: A cohort of 78 patients with CA was grouped into training (n = 54) and validation (n = 24) sets at a ratio of 7:3. A total of 275 textural features were extracted from the CMR images.

In recent years, the ready-to-eat foods market has grown significantly due to its high nutritional value and convenience. However, these foods are also at risk of microbial contamination, which poses food safety hazards. In this study, a model of VD in rats with modified permanent bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (2-VO) was established , a model of cellular excitotoxicity/oxidative stress was established via L-glutamate-induced PC12 cell injury, a model of neuroinflammation was established in LPS-induced BV2 cells , and the ameliorative effect of BZP on cognitive impairment was assessed.
