Background: Tumor regression grade (TRG) is evaluated by calculating the proportion of residual tumor to stromal fibrosis, which can reflect the tumor response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). Overall, patients with TRG1 show good sensitivity to NCRT but the long-term survival for these patients remains different. This study aimed to assess the prognostic factors in patients with TRG1.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a major public health problem worldwide that still lacks effective treatments. Recent studies have suggested that ferroptosis is a key mediator of AKI due to its activation of lipid peroxidation. Therefore, we hypothesized that antiferroptosis agents might be a novel potential therapeutic strategy for AKI.

Purpose: The extent of tumor regression varies widely among locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients who receive neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) followed by total mesorectal excision (TME). The purpose of this retrospectively study is to assess prognostic factors in LARC patients with NCRT, and further to analyze survival outcomes in patients with different tumor regression grades (TRGs).

Methods: This study includes LARC patients who underwent NCRT and TME at our institution.

Chronic hepatitis B is one of the common infectious diseases in the world, with a wide epidemic range and strong contagiousness, which is difficult to completely eradicate. From July 2020 to April 2022, 142 patients with hepatitis B who were admitted to tertiary hospitals were selected and randomly divided into 2 cases, with 71 cases per case. The control group adopts a conventional model, and the observation group implements a nursing model based on the control group.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study reviews the effectiveness and safety of combining acupuncture with minimally invasive surgery or basic therapy for patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (HICH), analyzing data from multiple clinical trials up to September 2020.
  • - A total of 17 randomized controlled trials involving 1,852 HICH patients were included, and the overall quality of these studies was deemed low, assessed using the Cochrane bias risk tool.
  • - The findings from the meta-analysis show that the acupuncture group significantly outperformed the control group in several areas, including CSS score, NIHSS score, cerebral hematoma volume, ADL score, and GCS score, all with statistically significant results (P < 0.00001).

To overview of systematic reviews/Meta-analysis of Xingnaojing Injection(XNJ) in the treatment of intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH). The systematic reviews concerning XNJ in the treatment of ICH were retrieved from four Chinese databases, four English databases, Chinese Clinical Trial Registry and ClinicalTrail.gov, with the retrieval time set from their inception to September 2020.

The study aims to analyze the outcome indicators of randomized controlled trial(RCT) of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in the treatment of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage(HICH) in recent three years, and thus provide suggestions for the future studies in this field. Four English databases, four Chinese databases and two online registration websites of clinical trials were searched. The RCTs published between January 2018 and September 2020 were screened.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Naoxueshu Oral Liquid in treating hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage, involving searches across multiple Chinese and English databases up to September 2020.
  • The review included 11 randomized controlled trials with a total of 1,221 participants, comparing Naoxueshu Oral Liquid combined with conventional Western medicine to just conventional treatment.
  • Meta-analysis results indicated Naoxueshu showed no significant difference in reducing NIHSS scores at 2 weeks but performed better after 30 days; it improved Glasgow Coma Scale scores and reduced secondary brain injuries, but there was no significant difference in increasing the Barthel Index scores.

Purpose: To develop and validate a nomogram model to predict the occurrence of acute kidney disease (AKD) after nephrectomy.

Patients And Methods: A retrospective cohort including 378 patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) who had undergone radical or partial nephrectomy between March 2013 and December 2017 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University was analyzed. Of these, patients who had undergone surgery in an earlier period of time formed the training cohort (n=265) for nomogram development, and those who had undergone surgery thereafter formed the validation cohort (n=113) to confirm the model's performance.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to assess the prevalence and risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in an urban population in central China between December 2017 and June 2018.
  • A total of 5,231 participants were randomly selected, with CKD defined by specific criteria related to kidney function and albumin levels; relevant health data was collected through questionnaires and medical testing.
  • The study found that CKD prevalence was 16.8% and DKD was 3.5%, with older age, male sex, smoking, and alcohol consumption identified as significant risk factors for reduced kidney function and albuminuria.

Background: Accurate estimation of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and staging of chronic kidney disease (CKD) are important. Currently, there is no research on the differences in several estimated GFR equations for staging CKD in a large sample of centenarians. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the differences in CKD staging with the most commonly used equations and to analyze sources of discrepancy.

Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients are susceptible to Helicobacter pylori (HP), and it has been reported that the occurrence of proteinuria is associated with HP infection in T2DM patients; however, this view remains controversial. This meta-analysis aimed to explore the association between HP infection and the occurrence of proteinuria in T2DM patients. In addition, we hope to provide some recommendations to readers in clinical or related fields.

Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified multiple single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with Kawasaki disease (KD). In this study, we replicated the associations of 10 GWAS-identified SNPs with KD in a Han Chinese population. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated by logistic regression, and cumulative effect of non-risk genotypes were also performed.

Ca(2+)/nuclear factor of activated T-cells (Ca(2+)/NFAT) signaling pathway may play a crucial role in Kawasaki disease (KD). We investigated 16 genetic variants, selected by bioinformatics analyses or previous studies, in 7 key genes involved in this pathway in a Chinese population. We observed a significantly or marginally increased KD risk associated with rs2720378 GC + CC genotypes (OR = 1.

8p22-23-rs2254546 was firstly discovered to be associated with Kawasaki disease (KD) susceptibility by a genome-wide association study. However, only one Chinese replication study has been performed so far. To verify this association in another Chinese population, a hospital-based case-control study in Zhejiang province was conducted followed by an integrated meta-analysis, comprising five case-control studies of 1958 cases, 5615 controls and four transmission disequilibrium tests of 503 trios.
