With renewables, marine photovoltaic (PV) harnessing solar energy gains momentum, promising vast ocean space for power generation with significant benefits.Recent studies indicate that while marine PV systems are designed to address environmental challenges, they can also cause unintended ecological consequences. Mitigating potential negative impacts on aquatic environments has therefore become a critical research priority.

In almost all cases so far, the desired phases are accessed by exploiting light-matter interactions via the imaginary part of the dielectric function through above-bandgap or resonant mode excitation. Nonresonant Raman excitation of coherent modes is experimentally observed and proposed for dynamic material control, but the resulting atomic excursion is limited to perturbative levels.

The oxidative stress of the body can destroy the homeostasis and lead to a series of adverse outcomes. In recent years, nano-enzyme materials, as a new hotspot in materials science, have been gradually applied in various fields because of their enzyme-like activities at the nanoscale and their ability to regulate various physiological processes in organisms. In this study, we developed a novel cerium oxide (CeO) nano-enzyme drug and demonstrated that the nano-enzyme can effectively improve oxidative stress levels and delay disc degeneration in rats.

Autonomous vehicle accidents frequently originate from violations of Operational Design Conditions (ODC)-the predefined operational limits of vehicle states, environmental factors, and driver capabilities. ODC violation indicates a high probability of impending functional failure under current operational scenarios, where failure denotes the system's inability to achieve designated performance thresholds or maintain safety-critical constraints. Therefore, designing and continuously monitoring the boundary states of ODC during system operation constitutes a critical imperative to prevent system failures, ensure operational safety, and mitigate autonomous vehicle accidents.

Transcriptional and epigenetic processes have been increasingly implicated in aging and longevity. E74-like factor 1 (ELF1) is a member of the erythroblast transformation specific family of proteins, which induce gene transcription by binding to gene promoters or enhancer sequences.

This study proposes to use the K-medoids clustering method to identify subtypes of Intensive Care Unit (ICU)-acquired acute kidney injury (AKI) patients based on serum electrolyte data. Three distinct AKI subtypes with different serum electrolyte characteristics were identified by clustering analysis. Further, descriptive analysis was employed to characterize in-hospital mortality and renal replacement therapy, diuretic and vasopressor usage in the three subtypes, and Chi-square tests were conducted to check the differences of prognosis and treatments among the identified subtypes.

Nowadays, healthcare systems increasingly utilize automated surveillance of electronic medical record (EMR) data to detect adverse events with specific patterns. Despite these technological advances, the early identification of adverse events remains challenging due to the absence of clearly defined prodromal sequences that could signal the onset of such events. Achieving clinically meaningful and interpretable prediction outcomes necessitates a framework that is capable of (i) deducing temporal relationships among various time series features within EMR data (e.

Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a prevalent spinal ailment and the leading cause of chronic low back pain. Understanding the exact pathogenesis of IVDD and developing targeted molecular drugs will be important in the future. Autophagy plays a key role in the metabolic processes and in the quality control of proteins in IVDD.

Background: Spontaneous psoas hematoma is a very rare clinical entity, and the pathogenesis and pathologic mechanisms of spontaneous psoas hematoma remain unclear, thus, it is of great value to explore.
Case Presentation: We encountered a patient who developed femoral nerve paralysis due to psoas muscle hematoma following posterior lumbar fusion surgery. A 69-year-old female with lumbar spinal canal stenosis underwent posterior lumbar fusion at the L3-4 and L4-5 levels.
Background: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) deficiency causes osteoporosis and increases muscle weakness, which worsens the risk of falls and osteoporotic vertebral fractures. However, the effect of a lower serum 25(OH)D level on new vertebral fractures, including osteoporotic vertebral refractures and cascade vertebral fractures post percutaneous vertebral augmentation in patients during postmenopause has not been reported.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum 25(OH)D and the risk of osteoporotic vertebral refractures and cascade vertebral fractures.

Machine learning plays an important role in quantum chemistry, providing fast-to-evaluate predictive models for various properties of molecules; however, most existing machine learning models for molecular electronic properties use density functional theory (DFT) databases as ground truth in training, and their prediction accuracy cannot surpass that of DFT. In this work we developed a unified machine learning method for electronic structures of organic molecules using the gold-standard CCSD(T) calculations as training data. Tested on hydrocarbon molecules, our model outperforms DFT with several widely used hybrid and double-hybrid functionals in terms of both computational cost and prediction accuracy of various quantum chemical properties.

Age-related osteoporosis is characterized by a marked decrease in the number of osteoblasts, which has been partly attributed to the senescence of cells of the osteoblastic lineage. Epigenetic studies have provided new insights into the mechanisms of current osteoporosis treatments and bone repair pathophysiology. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is a novel transcript modification that plays a major role in cellular senescence and is essential for skeletal development and internal environmental stability.

Coronary microvascular disease (CMVD) is common in patients with cardiovascular risk factors and is linked to an elevated risk of adverse cardiovascular events. Although modern medicine has made significant strides in researching CMVD, we still lack a comprehensive understanding of its pathophysiological mechanisms due to its complex and somewhat cryptic etiology. This greatly impedes the clinical diagnosis and treatment of CMVD.

So we aimed to compare the efficacy of the Mini-Nutrition Assessment-Short Form (MNA-sf), the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) and Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) for predicting OS and MOF among the elderly.

Ferroelastic twin walls in nonpolar materials can give rise to a spontaneous polarization due to symmetry breaking. Nevertheless, the bistable polarity of twin walls and its reversal have not yet been demonstrated. Here, we report that the polarity of SrTiO_{3} twin walls can be switched by an ultralow strain gradient.

In this study, an efficient method for the classification and rapid identification of yam components was established based on UPLC-Q-Exactive-MS and data post-processing techniques. First, the mass spectrometry information including the characteristic fragmentations (CFs) and neutral losses (NLs) of yam reported in the literature were summarised and a database of compounds was established.

Known to be involved in bone-cartilage metabolism, Vitamin D (VD) may play a role in human's disc pathophysiology. Given that postmenopausal women are prone to suffer VD deficiency and intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD), this study is intended to investigate whether VD can delay IDD in ovariectomized rats by improving bone microstructure and antioxidant stress. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated into four groups: sham, oophorectomy (OVX)+VD deficiency (VDD), OVX, and OVX+VD supplementation (VDS).
