Although extracellular traps (ETs) are promising therapeutic targets for recalcitrant chronic inflammation, for example, otitis media with effusion (OME), practical and specific targeting of NETs/EETs in pathological tissues remains challenging. In this study, an ultrathin, 2D sheet-like nanoscavenger C-TA is developed by modifying copper indium thiophosphate (CIPS) nanosheets with tannic acid (TA) and histone aptamers.

Purpose: The diagnosis of eosinophilic otitis media (EOM) remains a major challenge. Current diagnostic methods rely primarily on accurate samples of middle ear tissue or secretions, which can be complex. In this study, we sought to explore the diagnostic value of mastoid pneumatization combined with other temporal radiological features for EOM.

As a common model compression technique, network pruning is widely used to reduce storage and computational cost of deep models in the resource-constrained regime. However, most current pruning methods are designed for high-level vision tasks, with few developed for low-level vision tasks. We observed that the norm-based pruning criterion, originally designed for high-level vision tasks, is highly unsuitable for low-level image denoising networks.

Each hair cell has a V-shaped or U-shaped hair bundle composed of actin-filled stereocilia and a kinocilium supported by true transport microtubules. Damage to these structures due to noise exposure, drug toxicity, aging, or environmental factors can lead to hearing loss and other disorders.

Intense noise poses a threat to spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) in the inner ear, often resulting in limited axonal regeneration during noise injury and leading to noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Here, we propose an ultrasound-triggered nitric oxide (NO) release to enhance the sprouting and regeneration of injured axons in SGNs. We developed hollow silicon nanoparticles to load nitrosylated N-acetylcysteine, producing HMSN-SNO, which effectively protects NO from external interferences.

We present the 18 F-FDG PET/CT findings of a 64-year-old man with isolated renal metastasis. He had a history of radical surgery for squamous cell lung cancer 14 months ago, followed by chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The renal metastasis presented as a small focus of increased FDG uptake in the restaging 18 F-FDG PET/CT scan, which was regarded as renal cortical tracer retention.

We investigated the association between the clinical characteristics of PDAP and susceptibility to vancomycin and investigated the possibility of using vancomycin monotherapy alone as an initial treatment regimen for some PDAP patients to avoid unnecessary antibiotic exposure and secondary infection.
Methods: Patients with culture-positive PDAP were retrospectively analyzed and divided into two groups: peritonitis with only cloudy effluent (PDAP-cloudy) or with cloudy effluent, abdominal pain and/or fever (PDAP-multi).

To explore the risk factors of early postoperative taste disturbance (EPTD) after type I endoscopic tympanoplasty and operative modification strategies to improve taste disturbance. This was a controlled study. One hundred and twenty-four patients who underwent type I endoscopic tympanoplasty with tragal cartilage graft were separated evenly into control and modified groups.

This prospective study enrolled 197 patients who underwent endoscopic tympanoplasty. A postoperative pathological evaluation of the tissue around the tip of the malleus handle was performed to determine the presence of squamous epithelium.

Objectives: Planar cell polarity (PCP) signaling, essential for uniform alignment and directional beating of motile cilia, has been investigated in multiciliated epithelia. As a complex structure connecting the middle ear to the nasopharynx, the eustachian tube (ET) is important in the onset of ear-nose-throat diseases. However, PCP signaling, including the orientation that is important for ciliary motility and clearance function in the ET, has not been studied.

To study the incidence and characteristics of otitis media with effusion (OME) complicating SARS-CoV-2, we collected 267 middle ear effusion (MEE) samples and 172 nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs from patients. The SARS-CoV-2 virus was detected by RT-PCR targeting.

Glomus tympanicum tumors are benign primary tumors of the middle ear that can be completely removed using modern surgery. We compared endoscopic ear surgery (EES) to traditional microscopic ear surgery (MES) in terms of the removal of early-stage glomus tympanicum tumors. We retrospectively reviewed 25 cases treated from 2003 to 2021 that were of Grade I or II based on the Glasscock-Jackson classification system.

The sulfur poisoning mechanism of low-temperature SCR de-NO catalyst has always been one of the hot spots in academic circles. By studying the surface sulfur poisoning mechanism, low-temperature catalysts can be developed pertinently. In this paper, the mechanism of sulfur poisoning on the surface of LaMnO catalyst was studied by DFT method, and the adsorption process of sulfur oxides on the surface and its influence on SCR reaction process, as well as the morphology and decomposition process of ammonium sulfate on the surface were calculated.

In this work, Mn-Cu/BCN and Mn-Cu-Nb/BCN catalysts were prepared by one-step wet impregnation. The enhanced effect of Nb doping on the catalytic performance and SO tolerance over the Mn-Cu/BCN catalyst was evaluated in the temperature range of 75-275 °C.

Objective: Papillomas originating from the Schneiderian epithelium within the middle ear are extremely rare and may be associated with a high rate of recurrence and malignant transformation. Oncocytic papillomas represent the rarest pathological subtype of such tumors. The current investigation aimed to determine whether there exists a distinct mechanism underlying the incidence of oncocytic papillomas arising primarily within the middle ear, and to explore potential treatment strategies to ensure complete removal and prevent recurrence.

This is achieved via the precisely sculpted mechanotransduction apparatus of the hair cells and the supporting structure of the cochlea. The shaping of the mechanotransduction apparatus, the staircased stereocilia bundles on the apical surface of the hair cells, requires an intricate regulatory network including planar cell polarity (PCP) and primary cilia genes in orienting stereocilia bundles and building molecular machinery of the apical protrusions.

Dentin matrix protein 1 (Dmp1) is a highly phosphorylated, extracellular matrix protein that is extensively expressed in bone and teeth but also found in soft tissues, including brain and muscle. However, the functions of Dmp1 in the mice cochlea are unknown. Our study showed that Dmp1 was expressed in auditory hair cells (HCs), with the role of Dmp1 in those cells identified using Dmp1 cKD mice.

γ-FeO is considered to be a promising catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxide (NO). In this study, first-principle calculations based on the density function theory (DFT) were utilized to explore the adsorption mechanism of NH, NO, and other molecules on γ-FeO, which is identified as a crucial step in the SCR process to eliminate NO from coal-fired flue gas. The adsorption characteristics of reactants (NH and NO) and products (N and HO) at different active sites of the γ-FeO (111) surface were investigated.
