Bioelectric phenomena in electroacupuncture analgesia.

Pain is a complex process of electrical signal transmission. Electroacupuncture may adjust the bioelectric state of the tissues in painful sites through electrical characteristic structural units (acupoints), thereby exerting analgesic effect. The treatment of diseases with electroacupuncture results from the interaction between the external electric field and the electrical properties of acupoint tissues.

Effect of acupuncture pretreatment on inflammatory response of exercise-induced skeletal muscle damage in rats based on TLR9/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway.

Objectives: To observe the effects of acupuncture pretreatment on toll-like receptor 9/myeloid differentiation factor 88/nuclear factor-κB (TLR9/MyD88/NF-κB) signaling pathway and inflammatory response in the rats with exercise-induced skeletal muscle damage (EIMD) and explore the underlying mechanism of this pretreatment for EIMD.

Methods: A total of 88 male SD rats were randomly divided into a blank group (8 rats), a model group (40 rats) and an acupuncture pretreatment group (40 rats). In the model group and the acupuncture pretreatment group, 5 subgroups were randomized according to the sampling time of 0, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h of modeling, with 8 rats in each one, respectively.

Application and thinking of musculoskeletal ultrasound in diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases with acupuncture and moxibustion.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) is characterized as the dynamic, real-time and continuous visualization, the quantitative and qualitative localization,the simple operation and the absence of use contraindication. As a tool for auxiliary examination, treatment, evaluation and research, in acupuncture and moxibustion, MSUS may improve the accuracy of acupoint location, guide the direction and depth of needle insertion, monitor the reactions of , guarantee the safety of operation and quantify the effect evaluation. Hence, it may provide an objective basis for acupuncture and moxibustion research and be conductive to display the operation techniques of acupuncture and moxibustion by means of objective approaches such as imaging and data.

Exploration of the effects of 's pricking-cupping therapy on eczema-induced pruritus based on rs-fMRI.

Objectives: To explore the clinical effect of 's pricking-cupping therapy and its central mechanism in treatment of eczema-induced pruritus using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI).

Methods: Fifty patients with eczema-induced pruritus were enrolled in the observation group, and 50 healthy subjects were enrolled in the control group. No any intervention was delivered in the control group.

Xanthohumol attenuates collagen synthesis in scleroderma skin fibroblasts by ROS/Nrf2/TGFβ1/Smad3 pathway.

Skin fibrosis, the most obvious clinical manifestation of systemic sclerosis (SSc), has a high unmet need for treatment. Xanthohumol (Xn) has been shown to have beneficial effects on fibrotic diseases, but its efficacy in SSc remains unreported. This study aims to elucidate the effects and mechanisms of Xn on collagen synthesis in SSc skin fibroblasts (SScF).

Immunotherapy: Advancing glioblastoma treatment-A narrative review of scientific studies.

Background: Glioblastoma (GB) is an aggressive and deadly brain tumor with a poor prognosis despite the current standard of care, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.

Recent Findings: In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the potential of immunotherapies, seen to be effective in treating other cancers, in the treatment of GB. This comprehensive review presents an in-depth analysis of the remarkable progress of immunotherapy in GB treatment, focusing on human clinical studies.

Acupuncture for lumbar myofascial pain syndrome: systematic review and Meta-analysis.

This study systematically reviewed the clinical efficacy of acupuncture for lumbar myofascial pain syndrome. The randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding acupuncture for lumbar myofascial pain syndrome were searched in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMbase, Scopus, China national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang database, VIP database, and China biomedical literature service system (SinoMed) from database inception until August 1st, 2022. The Cochrane's risk of bias assessment tool was used to assess the risk of bias in all included studies, and Review Manager 5.

Effect of mild moxibustion with moxa stick and infrared mild moxibustion on skin blood perfusion at Waiguan (TE 5).

Objectives: To observe the changes of skin blood flow perfusion at Waiguan (TE 5) caused by mild moxibustion with moxa stick and infrared mild moxibustion using laser speckle contrast imaging technology, and to compare the microcirculatory effect during and after both moxibustion methods and explore the dose-response relationship of moxibustion.

Methods: Twenty-four healthy participants were treated with mild moxibustion with moxa stick and infrared mild moxibustion at left Waiguan (TE 5). The record started when the skin temperature reached (44±1) °C, and both moxibustion methods were provided within this temperature range.

Polyphyllin VII induces CTC anoikis to inhibit lung cancer metastasis through EGFR pathway regulation.

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are cells that detach from the primary tumor and enter the bloodstream, playing a crucial role in the metastasis of lung cancer. Unfortunately, there is currently a lack of drugs specifically designed to target CTCs and prevent tumor metastasis. In this study, we present evidence that polyphyllin VII, a potent anticancer compound, effectively inhibits the metastasis of lung cancer by inducing a process called anoikis in CTCs.

CAENet: Contrast adaptively enhanced network for medical image segmentation based on a differentiable pooling function.

Pixel differences between classes with low contrast in medical image semantic segmentation tasks often lead to confusion in category classification, posing a typical challenge for recognition of small targets. To address this challenge, we propose a Contrastive Adaptive Augmented Semantic Segmentation Network with a differentiable pooling function. Firstly, an Adaptive Contrast Augmentation module is constructed to automatically extract local high-frequency information, thereby enhancing image details and accentuating the differences between classes.

[Comparative analysis of intestinal microbiota distribution characteristics based on metagenomics in patients with hepatitis B cirrhosis with or without ascites].

To use metagenomic sequencing to compare the differences in intestinal microbiota species and metabolic pathways in patients with hepatitis B cirrhosis with or without ascites and further explore the correlation between the differential microbiota and clinical indicators and metabolic pathways. 20 hepatitis B cirrhosis cases [10 without ascites (HBLC-WOA), 10 with ascites (HBLC-WA), and 5 healthy controls (HC)] were selected from the previously studied 16S rRNA samples. Metagenome sequencing was performed on the intestinal microbiota samples.

Design: This was a cross-sectional survey study.

Background: Electromyography of the cricopharyngeal muscle (CP-EMG) is one of many assessment tools for dysphagia. The key to performing EMG and BTX injections is to precisely locate the cricopharyngeal muscle with an electrode. [Features of different contemporary acupuncture and moxibustion schools in the treatment of post-stroke spastic paralysis].

Acupuncture and moxibustion has certain advantages in the treatment of post-stroke spastic paralysis，but the treatment methods and diagnosis and treatment ideas are complicated. This paper sortes out the representative contemporary acupuncture and moxibustion schools in the treatment of post-stroke spastic paralysis, analyzes their academic origins，summarizes and compares the theory，acupoint selection and technique characteristics of different schools in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease，so as to provide some references for guiding optimal treatment schemes selection in clinic.

Background: Allicin is a bioactive compound with potent antioxidative activity and plays a protective effect in myocardial damage and fibrosis. The role and mechanism of Allicin in septic cardiomyopathy are unclear. In this study, we investigated the effects and underlying mechanisms of Allicin on lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced injury in H9c2 cardiomyocytes.

[Development and application of visual analysis teaching software for acupoint compatibility laws].

A user-friendly teaching software for visual analysis of acupoint compatibility laws has been developed based on the principles of partial order mathematics. This software is designed to provide auxiliary teaching of structured organization and visualization of law knowledge of compatibility data of acupuncture and moxibustion prescriptions from ancient texts, textbooks, and clinical case records. The software is installed as a plugin in the Microsoft Office Excel, allowing the generation of visually appealing graphs and associated rules that align with the cognitive patterns of teachers and students majoring in acupuncture and moxibustion.

[Pricking and cupping at area combined with conventional acupuncture for scapulohumeral periarthritis of frozen stage: a randomized controlled trial].

Objective: To compare the clinical effect of conventional acupuncture combined with pricking and cupping at area and conventional acupuncture in the treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis of frozen stage.

Methods: A total of 66 patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis of frozen stage were randomly divided into a combination group (31 cases) and an acupuncture group (35 cases, 1 case dropped off). Both groups were given functional exercise.

Nootkatone (NKT) exhibits potential pharmacological activities including anti-oxidation and anti-inflammation. Nevertheless, little is known about the roles of NKT in asthmatic airway inflammation. In the study, mice were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin (OVA) to establish experimental allergic asthma model.

[Immediate analgesic effect of electroacupuncture combined with diclofenac sodium on acute gouty arthritis: a randomized controlled trial].

Objective: To observe the immediate analgesic effect of electroacupuncture (EA) combined with diclofenac sodium on acute gouty arthritis (AGA).

Methods: A total of 90 patients with AGA were randomly divided into a low-dose medication (LM) group (30 cases, 1 case was eliminated, 1 case dropped off), a conventional medication (CM) group (30 cases, 1 case dropped off) and a combination of acupuncture and medication (AM) group (30 cases ). The LM group was given oral administration of 50 mg diclofenac sodium sustained-release capsule; the CM group was given oral administration of 100 mg diclofenac sodium sustained-release capsule; on the basis of the treatment of LM group, the AM group was treated with electroacupuncture at points, Dadu (SP 2), Taichong (LR 3), Taibai (SP 3), Neiting (ST 44), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Zusanli (ST 36) and Yinlingquan (SP 9) on the affected side, and Taichong (LR 3) and Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Yinlingquan (SP 9) were connected to electroacupuncture respectively, continuous wave, 2 Hz in frequency.

Objective: To compare the clinical therapeutic effect between electroacupuncture at "four points of sacral region" and transurethral Erbium laser in treatment of moderate to severe stress urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy.

Methods: A total of 68 patients of moderate to severe stress urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy were divided into an electroacupuncture group (34 cases) and an Erbium laser group (34 cases, 3 cases dropped off) according to the settings. Acupuncture was applied at Baihui (GV 20) and bilateral Shenshu (BL 23), Taixi (KI 3), Anmian (Extra) in the observation group, while sham acupuncture of shallow needling at non-acupoints was applied in the control group.
