The regeneration of bone defects in diabetic patients still faces challenges, as the intrinsic healing process is impaired by hyperglycemia. Inspired by the discovery that the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is in a state of excessive stress and dysfunction under hyperglycemia, leading to osteogenic disorder, a novel engineered exosome is proposed to modulate ER homeostasis for restoring the function of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The results indicate that the constructed engineered exosomes efficiently regulate ER homeostasis and dramatically facilitate the function of MSCs in the hyperglycemic niche.

The healing process of critical-sized bone defects urges for a suitable biomineralization environment. However, the unsatisfying repair outcome usually results from a disturbed intricate milieu and the lack of in situ mineralization resources. In this work, we have developed a composite hydrogel that mimics the natural bone healing processes and serves as a seedbed for bone regeneration.

The practical efficacy of nanomedicines for treating solid tumors is frequently low, predominantly due to the elevated interstitial pressure within such tumors that obstructs the penetration of nanomedicines. This increased interstitial pressure originates from both liquid and solid stresses related to an undeveloped vascular network and excessive fibroblast proliferation. To specifically resolve the penetration issues of nanomedicines for tumor treatment, this study introduces a holistic "dual-faceted" approach.

Background: Implant surgery is a popular operation in craniomaxillofacial surgery, but the occurrence of peri-implantitis affects the success and survival rate of the implant. Research has found that Th-cell-related cytokines are associated with peri-implantitis. However, the distribution and proportions of Th-cell subsets in submandibular lymph nodes' immune environments during the progression of peri-implantitis remain unclear.

The development of a high-rate SiO lithium-ion battery anode is seriously limited by its low intrinsic conductivity, sluggish interfacial charge transfer (ICT), and unstable dynamic interface. To tackle the above issues, interfacial encapsulation engineering for effectively regulating the interfacial reaction and thus realizing a stable solid electrolyte interphase is significantly important. Hybrid coating, which aims to enhance the coupled e/Li transport via the employment of dual layers, has emerged as a promising strategy.

Persistent bleeding and the absence of alveolar bone stress following tooth loss can hinder socket healing, complicating future dental implant procedures, and potentially leading to neighboring tooth instability. Therefore, developing materials that promote alveolar bone regeneration and possess both hemostatic and osteogenic properties is crucial for preserving the extraction sites. This study introduces a silk-based laponite composite scaffold material with proficient hemostatic and osteogenic functions, and excellent shape-memory properties for efficient extraction- site filling.

Macrophages, a heterogeneous population of innate immune cells, exhibit remarkable plasticity and play pivotal roles in coordinating immune responses and maintaining tissue homeostasis within the context of metabolic diseases. The activation of inflammatory macrophages in obese adipose tissue leads to detrimental effects, inducing insulin resistance through increased inflammation, impaired thermogenesis, and adipose tissue fibrosis. Meanwhile, adipose tissue macrophages also play a beneficial role in maintaining adipose tissue homeostasis by regulating angiogenesis, facilitating the clearance of dead adipocytes, and promoting mitochondrial transfer.

Efficient thermal management is critical to ensure the safe and reliable operation of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) as they are highly sensitive to temperature changes. Meanwhile, LIBs are exposed to various external forces during operation, such as vibration, shock, and oscillation, which may disrupt the physical and chemical processes inside the battery and lead to a decreased performance and shortened life. Here, we designed a phase change hydrogel (PCH) pad based on the polyurethane (PU) foam skeleton and demonstrated its effectiveness in efficient thermal management and improving antivibration performance.

The filler/resin matrix interface interaction plays a vital role in the properties of dental resin composites (DRCs). Porous particles are promising fillers due to their potential in constructing micromechanical interlocking at filler/resin matrix interfaces, therefore improving the properties of the resulting DRCs, where the pore size is significantly important. However, how to control the pore size of porous particles via a simple synthesis method is still a challenge, and how their pore sizes affect the properties of resulting DRCs has not been studied.

As societal aging intensifies, senile osteoporosis has become a global public health concern. Bone microdamage is mainly caused by processes such as enhancing osteoclast activity or reducing bone formation by osteoblast-lineage cells. Compared with young individuals, extracellular vesicles derived from senescent bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs) increase the transient differentiation of bone marrow monocytes (BMMs) to osteoclasts, ultimately leading to osteoporosis and metal implant failure.

Periodontitis is a prevalent dental disease marked by progressive destruction of tooth-supporting tissues, and the recovery of bone defects after periodontitis remains challenging. Although stem cell-based therapy is a promising treatment for periodontal tissue regeneration, the function of mesenchymal stem cells is constantly impaired by the inflammatory microenvironment, leading to compromised treatment outcomes. Herein, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-loaded porous microspheres (PMs) are prepared to protect bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) against inflammatory mediators in periodontitis.

Aramid nanofibers (ANFs) have shown potential applications in the fields of nanocomposite reinforcement, battery separators, thermal insulation and flexible electronics. However, the inherent low thermal conductivity limits the application of ANFs, currently, to ensure long lifetime in electronics. In this work, new nickel (Ni) nanoparticles were employed to decorate the silicon carbide (SiC) filler by a rapid and non-polluting method, in which nickel acetate tetrahydrate (Ni(CHCOO)·4HO) and SiC were mixed and heated under an inert atmosphere.
