Mammalian ALOX15 are allosteric enzymes but the mechanism of allosteric regulation remains a matter of discussion. Octyl (-(5-(1-indol-2-yl)-2-methoxyphenyl)sulfamoyl)carbamate inhibits the linoleate oxygenase activity of ALOX15 at nanomolar concentrations, but oxygenation of arachidonic acid is hardly affected. The mechanism of substrate selective inhibition suggests inter-monomer communication within the allosteric ALOX15 dimer complex, in which the inhibitor binding to monomer A induces conformational alterations in the structure of the active site of monomer B.

Background: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a prevalent hereditary disorder, with its monogenic form linked to an elevated risk of early-onset ischemic heart disease. Evaluating the prevalence and penetrance of pathogenic and likely pathogenic variants associated with this disorder would provide valuable information supporting routine FH screening of the general population. Such informed screening would facilitate early identification of at-risk individuals, enabling timely intervention and management.

Background: Encounters with threats can lead to a motivation to justify the existing social system, which can be expressed through endorsement of system-justifying beliefs.
Objective: The aim of the study was to examine how difierent types of threats contribute to endorsement of system-justifying beliefs in the economic domain.
Design: We tested a theoretical model ( = 577) with internal threats (fear of death), economic threats (threats of poverty and socio-economic inequality), and subjective threat perception (belief in a dangerous and competitive world) as predictors; system-justifying beliefs (economic system justification, opposition to equality, dominance, and antiegalitarianism) served as dependent variables, and sociodemographic characteristics were included as control variables.

Reducing agents with phosphorus-hydrogen bond, such as sodium hypophosphite, phosphite, and hypophosphorous acid are commercially available in bulk amounts, however, their usage is understudied in organic processes. While NaHPO has proved to be an efficient four-electron reductant in the catalyst-free reductive amination, the influence of cation in hypophosphite salt has not been studied yet. This issue is a fundamentally important factor.

We report the observation of negative differential resistance (NDR) in single-atom single-electron devices based on arsenic, phosphorus and potassium dopants implanted in a silicon host matrix. All devices exhibit NDR, with the potassium-based one exhibiting NDR at room temperature because of the larger charging and confinement energies. Our experimental results are reproduced with a simple model that assumes sequential electron tunnelling through two series-connected charge centres, each having two discrete energy levels.

Neutral iron(III) and iron(II) complexes based on the pyruvic acid thiosemicarbazone (Hthpy) ligand [Fe(Hthpy)(thpy)] (1) and [Fe(Hthpy)] (2) were synthesized, and deeper insights into magneto-structural correlation were gained by FT-IR spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray crystallography, dc magnetic characterization, Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. The X-ray structures of complex 1 were established for the HS ( = 5/2) state at 295 K and the LS ( = 1/2) state at 150 K. The crystal packing of 1 at these temperatures corresponds to the triclinic 1̄ symmetry and contains pairs of [Fe(Hthpy)(thpy)] complexes interconnected by a shortened S⋯S contact.

Macrophages (MΦs) are integral cellular components responsible for immune response and tissue homeostasis. Evaluation of their pro-inflammatory (M1) and anti-inflammatory (M2) polarization states, along with their metabolic profiles, typically conducted via flow cytometry, is crucial for assessing the immune status of an organism. Traditional flow cytometry relies on extrinsic fluorescent labels, which may interfere with cellular function.

Large interstitial telomeric regions are considered remnants and markers of chromosomal rearrangements or a result of several suggested molecular mechanisms of telomere repeats accumulation. More rare are cases when large interstitial repeats are found not close to, but at a distance from the centromere. However, synapsis, recombination, and effects on chromatin near these regions during meiotic prophase I have not been sufficiently studied.

This study developed a novel self-assembled bigel by combining a chestnut starch (CS) hydrogel with a γ-oryzanol/β-sitosterol (γ-ORY/β-SIT) oleogel. The influence of the hydrogel to oleogel ratio on the macro and micro structures, mechanical properties and thermal stability of the bigels was examined, and its potential as a healthier solid fat substitute was further explored. The results indicated that as the proportion of hydrogel increased (10 %-50 %), all bigels maintained a consistent semi-solid structure without any phase separation.
