Resistance to chemotherapy remains a significant challenge for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. In addition to conventional therapeutic strategies, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a compelling alternative for pancreatic cancer as it synergizes with various chemotherapeutics such as irinotecan, and oxaliplatin. However, the exact mechanisms by which PDT overcomes oxaliplatin resistance remains elusive.

The interplay between sleep and neural respiratory drive in COPD: contribution of semi-automated analysis of long duration recordings.

Background: Neural respiratory drive (NRD) is a clinically relevant biomarker in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, its analysis is challenging due to several technical considerations, including the need to obtain a stable recording over a short time period. However, a short recording duration may be inadequate to comprehensively record clinically relevant information, particularly during sleep, because NRD varies across sleep stages and over time.

An increasing number of studies have highlighted the insidious effects of endocrine disruptors on insect endocrinology, development, and behavior, prompting concerns regarding the ecological consequences of these pollutants. This review explores the effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) on insect communication and behavior, focusing on the molecular mechanisms and ecological consequences. This study underscores the importance of addressing EDC risks in maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem functions.

Computer-assisted surgery and planning in percutaneous pelvic screw fixation.

Percutaneous pelvic screwing (PPS) enables fixation of traumatic or atraumatic fractures with little or no displacement, or displaced but reduced fractures, and preventive fixation of primary or secondary tumoral lesions. It is a relatively recent technique, and indications are evolving with progress in pre- and intra-operative imaging. Morbidity is lower than with open surgery.

Objective: To report the territorial distribution and characteristics of healthcare centres performing surgical abortion in France, along with the accessibility of these centres.

Material And Methods: A nationwide population-based cohort study of all women hospitalized for surgical abortion was conducted from January 1 to December 31, 2022 in metropolitan France. Number, location, activity volume and use of local anaesthesia rate of surgical abortion centres were reported as distribution activity across metropolitan France.

Association of socioeconomic status and hospital efficiency in Type-1 diabetic patients with ketoacidosis or diabetic coma: a secondary data analysis comparing nation-wide paediatric and adult admissions in France.

Aims: To study the association between socioeconomic status (SES) and hospital efficiency in Type 1 diabetes mellitus patients admitted for ketoacidosis or diabetic coma in mainland France, overall and in adults versus children.

Methods: An observational study was carried out using exhaustive national hospital discharge databases. It included all admissions discharged from 2013 to 2019.

[Development of a welcome booklet destined to new personnel at the operating room: workflow of sterile medical devices and establishment of an evaluation questionnaire].

Objectives: The objective of this work is to provide comprehensive training on the workflow of sterile medical devices (SMDs) in the operating room (OR) with the help of an exhaustive booklet and the introduction of an evaluation to assess OR nurses and hospital pharmacy technicians knowledge.

Methods: Each section of the booklet was written based on internal quality documents related to the SMD workflow at our hospital and was institutionally validated. A multiple-choice questionnaire based on the booklet was developed.

Competency framework for patients with surgical jejunostomy: from theory to educational practice.

Objectives: Patients with a jejunostomy use their tube daily in most cases, which exposes them to various complications. However, to our knowledge, the current literature is limited regarding available educational interventions or tools for these patients, and no specific competency framework for surgical jejunostomy has been developed yet. This project aimed to develop a unique and adapted competency framework for surgical jejunostomy patients through a multiprofessional and consensus-driven approach and to create a fun educational tool based on this framework to promote an effective educational approach.

Sweat chloride and lung function responses to elexacaftor-tezacaftor-ivacaftor in people with cystic fibrosis with two versus one responsive CFTR variants: an analysis of two real-world observational studies.

Background: Among people with cystic fibrosis, sweat chloride and lung function response to elexacaftor-tezacaftor-ivacaftor (ETI) is variable. We hypothesised that the presence of two versus one ETI-responsive CFTR variant could predict response variability.

Methods: In this analysis of two real-world observational studies, data from a French national cohort of adults (aged ≥18 years) with cystic fibrosis and at least one F508del variant treated with ETI and the French compassionate programme for ETI in people (aged ≥6 years) with cystic fibrosis without F508del were used to examine sweat chloride concentrations (SCCs) after ETI initiation, and the absolute change in SCC and percentage of predicted forced expiratory volume in 1 s (ppFEV) following ETI initiation.

Global policy responses to antimicrobial resistance, 2021-22: a systematic governance analysis of 161 countries and territories.

Background: Most countries have endorsed a national action plan (NAP) on antimicrobial resistance. We previously used a governance framework to assess NAPs on antimicrobial resistance available for the period of 2020-21 from 114 countries, finding substantial variation worldwide in the commitment of resources to address an escalating global health challenge. We sought to expand and advance this analysis to include the NAPs of more low-income and middle-income countries, to cover the period of 2021-22, and to examine the strength of NAPs to address antimicrobial resistance.

We investigated whether angiogenesis-related microRNAs (miRNAs) predict survival in patients with pleural mesothelioma (PM) treated with bevacizumab plus pemetrexed-platinum chemotherapy in the Mesothelioma Avastin Cisplatin Pemetrexed Study ('MAPS', NCT00651456) phase 3 trial phase III trial (NCT00651456). Twelve miRNAs were measured in FFPE samples from 236 of the 448 MAPS trial patients (50.8 %), normalized to RNU48.

Methods: Maternal occupational exposure to 47 factors during pregnancy was evaluated with job-exposure matrices in the French ELFE cohort. The outcomes of interest were birthweight (BW), small for gestational age (SGA) and head circumference (HC).

Interpreting the mandibular jaw movement signal in pediatric obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis: A technical and practical review.

Pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common yet often underdiagnosed condition, partly due to limited access to polysomnography. Mandibular jaw movement (MJM) analysis offers a promising alternative to conventional home sleep apnea testing in children, capturing the dynamic interactions between respiratory drive and upper airway musculature, enabling accurate identification of, and critical insights into, sleep-disordered breathing events. This technical and practical review provides a structured framework for understanding and interpreting MJM signals during sleep in pediatric patients.

Complement in systemic lupus erythematosus across time and space: from tolerance to tissue injury and from extracellular to intracellular functions.

The complement system plays a paradoxical role in systemic lupus erythematosus physiopathology, acting both as a protective mechanism and as a driver of tissue injury, depending on disease stage. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) further exacerbate disease activity by promoting complement activation and autoantigen exposure, forming an amplifying inflammatory loop. Lupus nephritis remains challenging to monitor using conventional complement biomarkers such as CH50, C3, and C4; the utility of anti-C1q, anti-ficolin, and anti-C1s antibodies, along with tissue-based markers such as renal C4d and C5b-9 deposits, as markers of disease activity and prognosis, is discussed.

Black morel (Morchella sextelata) is widely regarded as a post-fire mushroom because of its prolific fruiting in post-fire forest soils enriched with charcoal. Intriguingly, artificial cultivation of M. sextelata often incorporates biochar as a soil amendment to enhance yield, although the underlying physicochemical and ecological mechanisms remain unclear.

Trimethylation of histone H3 at lys36 (H3K36me3) promotes gene transcription and governs plant development and plant responses to environmental cues. Yet, how H3K36me3 is translated into specific downstream events remains largely uninvestigated. Here, we report that the Arabidopsis PWWP-domain protein HUA2 binds methyl-H3K36 in a PWWP motif-dependent manner.

When the cell needs to respond to the environment: A chromatin-splicing love affair.

Alternative splicing enables cells to acquire novel phenotypic traits for adaptation to changes in the environment. However, the mechanisms that allow these dynamic changes to occur in a timely and sustained manner remain unknown. Utility of [Tc]Tc-tilmanocept, an immunosuppressive macrophage functional imaging agent in melanoma patients receiving checkpoint inhibitor treatment: a feasibility study.

Background: Immunotherapy is a mainstay in the treatment of patients with advanced melanoma. Yet, resistance mechanisms exist, and tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs), particularly the M2-like phenotype, are associated with poorer outcomes, with CD206 serving as their specific marker. We present the first human SPECT/CT study to visualize CD206 + TAMs in patients undergoing immunotherapy and compare the findings to clinical outcomes (NCT04663126).

Awake surgery with direct electrical stimulation mapping and real-time cognitive monitoring for functionally guided tumor resection: how we do it.

Background: Awake surgery is the reference for diffuse low-grade glioma resection, allowing maximal tumor removal while preserving neurocognitive functions. It is also applicable to other brain tumors. However, key technical elements must be followed to ensure optimal conditions for intraoperative cognitive testing and reliable functional mapping.

Price determinants and pricing policies concerning potentially innovative health technologies: a scoping review.

Background: Policymakers face challenges in developing pricing policies for potentially innovative healthcare technologies (pIHTs) that balance limited budgets, access, and incentives for innovation. This study aimed to map existing evidence and identify knowledge gaps regarding price determinants and pricing policies for pIHTs and their effect on access and sustainability.

Methods: We conducted a scoping Review of scientific and grey literature in English published between 2014 and September 2023 with pre-specified inclusion and exclusion criteria to identify stakeholder-informed price determinants, pricing policies applied by European Economic Area (EEA) or Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member states, and their access-related impacts.
