Purpose: Indicators for comparing and understanding differences in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) for benchmarking are essential to identify priorities for hospitals.

Methods: This study measured the incidence of hospital-acquired or resistant Gram-negative bacilli bloodstream infections (GNB-BSIs) in a large public healthcare consortium in the Parisian region of France.

Results: Within each hospital, there was a strong positive correlation between the incidence of GNB-BSIs due to resistant GNB and the incidence of hospital-acquired GNB-BSIs.

The local immune-inflammatory response elicited by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is still poorly described, as well as the extent to which its characteristics may be associated with the outcome of critical Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In this prospective monocenter study, all consecutive COVID-19 critically ill patients admitted from February to December 2020 and explored by fiberoptic bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) were included. Biological assays, including digital ELISA cytokine profiling and targeted eicosanoid metabolomic analysis, were performed on paired blood and BAL fluid (BALF).

Early activation of the cardiac CX3CL1/CX3CR1 axis delays β-adrenergic-induced heart failure.

We recently highlighted a novel potential protective paracrine role of cardiac myeloid CD11b/c cells improving resistance of adult hypertrophied cardiomyocytes to oxidative stress and potentially delaying evolution towards heart failure (HF) in response to early β-adrenergic stimulation. Here we characterized macrophages (Mφ) in hearts early infused with isoproterenol as compared to control and failing hearts and evaluated the role of upregulated CX3CL1 in cardiac remodeling. Flow cytometry, immunohistology and Mφ-depletion experiments evidenced a transient increase in Mφ number in isoproterenol-infused hearts, proportional to early concentric hypertrophy (ECH) remodeling and limiting HF.

Background: Postsurgical infections due to appeared as a novel nosocomial threat in 2015, with a worldwide outbreak due to contaminated heater-cooler units used in open chest surgery. We report the results of investigations conducted in France including whole-genome sequencing comparison of patient and heater-cooler unit isolates.

Methods: We sought infection cases from 2010 onwards through national epidemiological investigations in health care facilities performing cardiopulmonary bypass, together with a survey on good practices and systematic heater-cooler unit microbial analyses.

The triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM-1) drives inflammatory responses in several cardiovascular diseases but its role in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) remains unknown. Our objective was to explore the role of TREM-1 in a mouse model of angiotensin II-induced (AngII-induced) AAA. Purpose Of Review: This review aims to summarize the recent findings on germinal center B-cell reaction and Tfh cells in HIV-1 infection, with particular emphasis on the spatial organization of the germinal center, follicular cell regulation, and cellular alterations resulting from HIV infection.

Recent Findings: HIV-specific bNAbs are generated by iterative cycles of B-cell maturation supported by GC environment. Recent observations underline that germinal center structural alterations at the earliest stages of HIV infection could impact Tfh cell and germinal center B-cell homeostasis, thus preventing the rise of efficient humoral immunity.

Long-term maintenance of skin immune system in a NOD-Scid IL2rγ(null) mouse model transplanted with human skin.

We developed a NOD-Scid IL2rγ(null) mouse model transplanted with human skin that brings fundamental insight on in vivo cellular mechanisms of intradermal immunization and antigen presentation by dermal dendritic and epidermal Langerhans cells for skin T-cell immunity. Indeed, T-cell immunity is a crucial checkpoint for the induction of in vivo rapid control of skin infection. With the long-term preservation of a complete human skin immune system, this model offers the unique opportunity not only to better understand mechanisms of skin immune response but also to test new compounds and devices for cutaneous routes of vaccination, as well as new therapeutics approach for skin diseases, allergies or infections.
