With reference to the experience of the epidemiological-level classification of infectious disease and the actual epidemiological status of NoV AGE in Chaoyang District, Beijing, China, the epidemic intensity of NoV GII was divided into five grades with increasing intensity from grade 1 to grade 5, which corresponds to non-epidemic risk, general risk, moderate risk, high risk, and ultra-high risk, respectively. If the synthetic index of two consecutive monitoring weeks in the epidemic season of 2023-2024 exceeds a certain threshold, an early warning for the corresponding epidemic intensity will be issued and recommendations on the corresponding control measures will be given.

Apart from dopaminergic neurotoxicity, exposure to rotenone, a commonly used insecticide in agriculture, also adversely affects hippocampal and cortical neurons, resulting in cognitive impairments in mice. We recently established a role of microglia-mediated neuroinflammation in rotenone-elicited deficits of cognition, yet the mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we investigated the involvement of NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2) catalytic subunit gp91 in rotenone-induced cognitive deficits and the associated mechanisms.

The engieering of Cas13a crRNA to enhance its binding affinity with the Cas enzyme or target is a promising method of improving the collateral cleavage efficiency of CRISPR-Cas13a systems, thereby amplifying the sensitivity of nucleic acid detection. An examination of the top-performing engineered crRNA (24 nt 5'7U LbuCas13a crRNA, where the 5'-end was extended using 7-mer uridinylates) and optimized conditions revealed an increased rate of LbuCas13a-mediated collateral cleavage activity that was up to seven-fold higher than that of the original crRNA. Particularly, the 7-mer uridinylates extension to crRNA was determined to be spacer-independent for enhancing the LbuCas13a-mediacted collateral cleavage activity, and also benefited the LwaCas13a system.

Diesel exhaust has long been of health concern due to established toxicity including carcinogenicity in humans. However, the precise components of diesel engine emissions that drive carcinogenesis are still unclear. Limited work has suggested that nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (NPAHs) such as 1-nitropyrene and 2-nitrofluorene may be more abundant in diesel exhaust.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been associated with poor HIV testing in adulthood yet, they have not been extensively described in those at increased risk for HIV. Cross-sectional analysis data (n = 204,231) on ACEs and HIV testing were obtained from the 2019-2020 Behavioural Risk Factor Surveillance Survey. Weighted logistic regression models were used to access the association of ACEs exposure, ACEs score, and ACEs type with HIV testing among adults with HIV risk behaviours, and stratified analysis was also performed to examine gender differences.

Background: We previously found that occupational exposure to diesel engine exhaust (DEE) was associated with alterations to 19 biomarkers that potentially reflect the mechanisms of carcinogenesis. Whether DEE is associated with biological alterations at concentrations under existing or recommended occupational exposure limits (OELs) is unclear.
Methods: In a cross-sectional study of 54 factory workers exposed long-term to DEE and 55 unexposed controls, we reanalysed the 19 previously identified biomarkers.

Diesel engine exhaust (DEE) is an established lung carcinogen, but the biological mechanisms of diesel-induced lung carcinogenesis are not well understood. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs that play a potentially important role in regulating gene expression related to lung cancer. We conducted a cross-sectional molecular epidemiology study to evaluate whether serum levels of miRNAs are altered in healthy workers occupationally exposed to DEE compared to unexposed controls.

Although the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been widely detected in wastewater in many countries to track the COVID-19 pandemic development, it is still a lack of clear understanding of the persistence of SARS-CoV-2 in raw sewage, especially after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic event. To fill this knowledge gap, this study conducted a field trial on the SARS-CoV-2 presence in various wastewater facilities after the end of the COVID-19 epidemics in Beijing. The result showed that the wastewater treatment facility is a large SARS-CoV-2 repository.
