Nondestructive and robust detection of different kinds of vegetable oils adulterated with used frying oil by multi-optical properties.

Food Res Int

February 2025

College of Food Science and Engineering/Collaborative Innovation Center for Modern Grain Circulation and Safety/Key Laboratory of Grains and Oils Quality Control and Processing, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, Nanjing 210023 China. Electronic address:

Developing a rapid and non-invasive detection tool for frying oil adulteration in pure vegetable oils holds the considerable significance. In this study, a self-developed optical system which combined double integrating spheres (DIS) and laser induced fluorescence (LIF) techniques was applied to obtain the optical properties of adulterated oils, which involved four categories: peanut, corn, rapeseed, and soybean oils, with each category from two distinct brands. The captured multi-optical properties included absorption coefficient (μ), reduced scattering coefficient (μ') and fluorescence intensity (F).

Identification of IGF2BPs-related mRNA signature for predicting the overall survival of lung adenocarcinoma.

Sci Rep

February 2025

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Hwa Mei Hospital, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Ningbo No. 2 Hospital), Ningbo No. 2 Hospital), No.41 Xibei Road, Ningbo, China.

Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding proteins (IGF2BPs) are m⁶A readers that stabilize target mRNAs by recognizing the GG(m⁶A)C sequence. While previous studies have explored the biological mechanisms of IGF2BPs in lung cancer, their prognostic value remains unclear. This study investigated the expression, molecular mechanisms, and prognostic significance of IGF2BPs in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) using TCGA and GEO datasets.

J Clin Med

January 2025

Department of Dental Hygiene, College of Health and Medical Sciences, Cheongju University, 298 Daesung-ro, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju 28503, Chungcheongbuk-do, Republic of Korea.

This retrospective cohort study aimed to compare and evaluate the 1-year stability of two Korean implant brands, Osstem and Toplan, both treated with alumina- sandblasting and acid- etching (SA) surface modification. This retrospective analysis evaluated patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists grade I or II, >20 years, with alveolar bone volume suitable for implant placement, who received immediate or delayed placement after extraction, and with Osstem ( = 57) or Toplan ( = 87) implants. The insertion torque value (ITV) measured on the day of implant placement and the implant stability quotient (ISQ) measured on the day of implant placement, 1 month post-surgery, and 2-3 months after implantation were analyzed.

Center for Benign Haematology, Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Van Creveldkliniek, University Medical Center Utrecht, Utrecht University, Utrecht, the Netherlands; Circulatory Health Research Center, University Medical Center Utrecht, Utrecht, the Netherlands. Electronic address:

Background: Delta storage pool disease (δ-SPD) is a rare platelet function disorder (PFD) characterized by a deficiency of dense granules or defective granule secretion, leading to bleeding diathesis. Diagnostics of δ-SPD are difficult and lack standardization, leading to underestimation of its prevalence. Current diagnostic methods are based on granule content assays or lumi-aggregometry, which have limited availability.

Background: Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) and fibrinolytic or thrombolytic therapy are common treatments for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Primary percutaneous coronary intervention is more effective than thrombolytic therapy, but fibrinolytic therapy is still a preferable option for patients with limited access to healthcare. Alteplase is a tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) used to treat acute myocardial infarction, acute ischemic stroke, and pulmonary embolism.

Lipid peroxidation is a major process that determines the quality of various oil samples during their use and storage, in which the primary products are hydroperoxides (HP'). HP' are very stable compounds at ambient conditions and are harmful to human health. Therefore, the evaluation of the degree of oil oxidation is an excellent tool for ensuring food safety.

Digital Agriculture, Food and Wine Research Group, School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Science, Faculty of Science, The University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Article Synopsis
  • The rise of fraud in alcoholic beverages, particularly counterfeiting and adulteration, is causing significant economic impacts on companies.
  • A study developed a method using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and machine learning (ML) to authenticate beer, evaluate its quality, and assess control without opening the bottles.
  • The ML models demonstrated high accuracy in predicting beer fermentation types and sensory characteristics, providing a reliable tool for brewers and retailers to ensure quality and combat fraud in beer products.

Background: Celiac disease (CeD) has shown an association with autoimmune disorders including vitiligo and alopecia areata (AA). Ritlecitinib, a JAK3 and TEC kinase family inhibitor, has been approved for treatment of patients with AA and is in late-stage development for vitiligo. Ritlecitinib inhibits cytotoxic T cells, NK cells, and B cells which play a role in the pathogenesis of CeD.

The human Cell Line Activation Test (h-CLAT) is an in vitro skin sensitization assay adopted by the OECD as Test Guideline 442E. In the h-CLAT, 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) is used as a positive control; however, DNCB is considered a poisonous substance under the Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control Act in Japan since 2014 because of its high acute toxicity. Strict control, handling, and storage are required when using DNCB, which is a burden to the users.

By developing an intertemporal decision-making model, this paper investigates the impact of the acquisition of overseas residency by a firm's beneficial owner on the firm's intertemporal decision-making. By incorporating a discount rate in the model, the paper finds that obtaining foreign residency alters the temporal distributional characteristics of the utility of the beneficial owner, weakening its preference for intertemporal investment behaviors such as R&D and donations. We then conduct an empirical analysis using the propensity score matching method for Chinese listed firms.
