Article Synopsis
  • High-concentration fluoride treatment, a common method for preventing dental decay, may negatively impact periodontal health by aggravating bone loss and tissue destruction in patients with periodontitis.
  • The study found that sodium fluoride (NaF) enhances M1 macrophage polarization and promotes glycolysis in these immune cells, contributing to the worsening of periodontal conditions.
  • These findings highlight the importance of understanding NaF's effects on immune processes, suggesting that while fluoride is beneficial for dental care, it may have adverse implications for periodontal health and should be used cautiously in affected individuals.

Autologous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is a commonly used vascular access (VA) for hemodialysis, and hemodynamic changes are one of the main factors for its failure. To explore the effect of geometry on the hemodynamics in the AVF, a modified model is built with a gradual and smooth turn at the anastomosis and is compared with the traditional model, which has an abrupt sharp turn at the anastomisis. Transient computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed for the comparison and analysis of the hemodynamic fields of the two models at different stages of the pulse cycle.

Objectives: This study is to establish a nomination graph model for individualised early prediction of the 3-month prognosis of patients who had an acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) receiving intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator.

Design: For the period from January 2016 through August 2022, 991 patients who had an acute stroke eligible for intravenous thrombolysis were included in the retrospective analysis study. The study was based on multifactor logistic regression.

Aims: To evaluate the correlation between left atrial stiffness index (LASI) and left ventricular diastolic function in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) by Autostrain LA technique.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis that included a total of 82 CHD patients who had suitable image quality for left atrial strain measurement. According to the 2016 ASE/EACVI guidelines for the echocardiographic assessment of diastolic dysfunction, the patients were divided into three groups: normal left ventricular diastolic function group (n = 26), indeterminate left ventricular diastolic function (n = 36), and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) (n = 20).

Department of Neurosurgery, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, Tianjin, China; Tianjin Neurological Institute, Key Laboratory of Post-Neuroinjury Neuro-Repair and Regeneration in Central Nervous System, Ministry of Education and Tianjin City, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, Ti

Background: Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is a common and serious complication of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Its pathogenesis is not fully understood. Here, we developed a predictive model based on peripheral blood biomarkers and validated the model using several bioinformatic multi-analysis methods.

**Ischemic stroke remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Despite the advances in thrombolytic therapy, notably recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA), patient outcomes are highly variable. This study aims to introduce a novel predictive model, the Acute Stroke Thrombolysis Non-Responder Prediction Model (ASTN-RPM), to identify patients unlikely to benefit from rtPA within the critical early recovery window.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the safety and outcomes of two treatment methods (endovascular treatment and microsurgical clipping) for patients with ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysms, using data from the Chinese Multicenter Cerebral Aneurysm Database.
  • Propensity score matching adjusted for patient characteristics, highlighting that endovascular treatment had lower procedural complications and led to better functional independence at discharge and two years later compared to microsurgical clipping.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that endovascular treatment may provide better clinical outcomes and lower mortality rates for rupture AComA aneurysm patients.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the photoprotection effect of peroxiredoxin 1 (PRDX1) protein in ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation-induced damage of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and its possible molecular mechanism.

Methods: ARPE-19 cell viability and apoptosis were assessed by MTT assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the PRDX1 expression.

Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA)-associated systemic vasculitis (AASV) is a rare systemic immunological condition that predominantly impacts small arteries, veins, and capillaries, often leading to kidney damage and pulmonary injury. It is important to note that individuals primarily presenting with peripheral neuropathy (PN) are uncommon in AASV, which can result in significant misdiagnosis or undiagnosed cases. The severity and location of PN can vary among patients.

Alcoholic liver cirrhosis (ALC) is a result of excessive and chronic alcohol consumption. Because alchol can cause DNA damage, extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) was investigated in ALC liver due to it can be a result of DNA damage. Considering eccDNA has ability to lead to genomic instability as an enhancer of gene transcription, we utilized Circle-Seq to identify differences in eccDNA profiles and gene expression patterns in liver samples obtained from ALC patients (n = 3) and healthy controls (n = 3) to investigate the role of eccDNA in the development of ALC.
