Diradicaloids have garnered significant attention due to their unique electronic, photophysical properties and potential applications in functional materials. Characterized by a narrow band gap and near-infrared (NIR) absorption, diradicaloids are promising candidates for NIR-guided photothermal therapy. However, they are often unstable and exhibit non-emissive properties due to high chemical reactivity and very efficient internal conversion. Herein, we report a remarkably stable Chichibabin diradicaloid, TT-CzPh, which exhibits NIR luminescence (λ = 821 nm) with an efficient photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 6.4%. Surprisingly, TT-CzPh not only exhibits excellent NIR imaging but also has a very high photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) of 87.5%. In vivo experiments with TT-CzPh nanoparticles demonstrated their effectiveness in tumor photoablation guided by NIR imaging. This work not only advances the development of stable, efficient luminescent Chichibabin's hydrocarbons but also opens new avenues for bioimaging and cancer phototherapy applications.

Background: Recent advancements in cancer therapeutics have catalyzed the development of noninvasive treatment modalities, including the utilization of fluorescent chemotherapeutic agents. These agents offer dual functionality, enabling targeted drug delivery, real-time tumor imaging, and personalized therapy monitoring. Such capabilities are instrumental in the progression toward more precise and effective cancer interventions.

Background: Iron (Fe) is an essential micronutrient for plant growth, but the conventional DTPA soil analysis method for detecting available iron has notable limitations, requiring advanced instruments and lengthy preparation time. Developing a more affordable, user-friendly, and efficient method for iron detection in soil could greatly improve crop nutrition management. Here, a facile nanoscopic method was developed to quantify available Fe ions in the soil by forming a luminescence quenching complex in chelation with bathophenanthroline disulphonic acid disodium salt (Fe/BPDS complex).

We present a supramolecular templating strategy for inducing chirality in hybrid perovskites via confined crystallization within chiral super spaces-nanoconfined, helically ordered cavities formed by the self-assembly of achiral bent-core molecules with chiral additives. Upon removal of the additives, the resulting porous films retain permanent chirality. Quasi-2D hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites crystallized within these templates exhibit distinct chiroptical activity, including mirror-image circular dichroism and circularly polarized light emitting (CPLE), with CPLE dissymmetry factors reaching up to 1.

Lung cancer, as one of the cancers with the highest morbidity and mortality rates in the world, requires accurate detection of its vital serum marker, neuron-specific enolase (NSE), which is a key challenge for early detection of lung cancer. However, traditional chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) methods rely on labeled antibodies (Abs) and suffer from complex operations and high costs. In this work, a label-free CLIA based on CL-functionalized mesoporous magnetic nanoparticles (CuFeO@mSiO-Cys-Luminol-Au NPs) is developed for the rapid and sensitive detection of NSE.

Liquid-phase suspension array technology (SAT), based on optically encoded microspheres, overcomes limitations of traditional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and chemiluminescence detection techniques via meeting high-throughput and multiplexing demands in biosensing and diagnosis. It demonstrates significant advantages in terms of accuracy, speed, sensitivity, and multiplex detection capabilities, and has become an emerging research hotspot in the field of luminescent immunodiagnostics. With rapid advancement of nanotechnology and multi-functional nanomaterials, liquid-phase suspension array chips have achieved remarkable progresses in multiplex analysis capacity, encoding capacity, encoding efficiency, detection sensitivity, decoding methods, and application fields.
