Article Abstract

Clinical studies have suggested that increased plasma oxytocin (OT) levels are a promising biomarker for bipolar disorder (BD), and our earlier post-mortem study found increased OT activity in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (OT) in BD. However, the potential contribution of the supraoptic nucleus (SON, OT), a major part of the central OT system, to BD remains unknown. We therefore systematically performed independent acute or chronic chemogenetic activation of OT, OT, or OT experiments in OT-cre mice. We found that acute activation of OT neurons led to slight mania-like (anti-depression-like) behaviors both in male and female mice, while chronic activation of OT or OT led to sex-dependent behavioural changes from depression/anxiety-like to mania-like, accompanied by stress-related molecular changes in a sex- dependent manner in the medial prefrontal cortex. Our findings imply that OT may be involved in bipolar-like mood changes in a sex- and dosage-dependent manner.

Astragaloside IV Binds with RhoA, Inhibits EndMT and Ameliorates Myocardial Fibrosis in Mice.

Shanghai Frontiers Science Center of TCM Chemical Biology, Institute of Interdisciplinary Integrative Medicine Research, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai 201203, China.

Astragaloside IV (ASIV), the main active component of the traditional Chinese medicine HuangQi, exhibits ameliorating effects on myocardial fibrosis through unclear mechanisms. To investigate the effects of ASIV on Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) in myocardial fibrosis, 10 ng/mL TGF-β1 was used to induce EndMT in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and a 5 mg/kg/d subcutaneous injection of Isoproterenol (ISO) was used to induce myocardial fibrosis in mice . The drug affinity-responsive target stability (DARTS) was used to identify the target proteins of ASIV in endothelial cells.

A strain of mycovirus AaVV1 mediates hypovirulence of Alternaria species.

Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory for Biology and Control of Plant Diseases and Insect Pests, Hunan Agricultural University, Nongda Road 1, Furong District, Changsha City, Hunan Province 410128, PR China. Electronic address:

The genus Alternaria comprises a wide range of ubiquitous plant pathogens that affect various host plants. Certain mycoviruses can induce changes in the biological characteristics and virulence of host fungi, offering potential for biocontrol in managing fungal plant diseases. Here, we identified a mycovirus with a high degree of homology to Alternaria arborescens victorivirus 1 (AaVV1), which was previously reported from Alternaria arborescens, in the QRH strain of the heterologous host Alternaria gomphrenae.

Aluminum exposure disturbs epigenetic modification and organelle function during early embryo development.

Aluminum is a lightweight and corrosion-resistant metal element that is widely used in industries, construction, food, and pharmaceuticals, and it can adversely affect multiple organ systems including the nervous system, skeletal system, reproductive system, blood system, and immune system. In present study, we investigated the effects of aluminum exposure on mammalian embryo development. Our data demonstrate that aluminum exposure induces mouse early embryo development defects, including those at the zygotes and 2-cell stages, causing a decrease in general transcription activity.

Background: Anhedonia, the lack of interest or pleasure in activities, is a core but under-addressed symptom of depression. Consequently, little is known about the efficacy of treatments for alleviating anhedonia.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of psychotherapeutic and pharmacological treatments for depression at reducing symptoms of anhedonia.

Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD), anxiety disorders, and self-harm are substantial contributors to the global disease burden, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: We used Global Burden of Diseases Study (GBD) 2021 to estimate global, regional, and national prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for MDD, anxiety disorders, and self-harm from 1990 to 2021. Annual percentage changes were calculated for pre-pandemic (1990-2019) and pandemic (2019-2021) periods.
